Not sure about the mid 90s since I wasn't watching back then and 2004 either since the dominate guy was HHH but he was a heel.

Surely Diesel for 95? Was Champ for most of the year and Vince was really pushing him at that stage

I would say '94 Bret, '95 Diesel, '96 HBK, though you could make a case for UT in 1994.
This year is TBD. Cena was supreme for a decade, though I feel that 2014 could be labeled a Lesnar year. 2001 was definitely an Austin year. Rocky was gone for a few months and Austin carried the strap almost the entire year. The only other two that I feel could put their names in for that year were Angle and RVD. 2000 was Rock's year as the main guy against HHH with Austin out, and he carried the strap for a while in his signiture reign. Any Warrior love for 1990? |

Going through the PPV list, it is incredible how many PPV main events Triple H had in 2008-2009, and just how many CM Punk had too. But you can't deny they were all-in on John Cena.

2004 is a hard one too, because although Triple H spent a lot of time at the top, it was as the heel and there were intermittent spots where they tried pushing Benoit and Orton, respectively. While Triple H is the link there, I think given the big oomph Benoit had at the start of the year, and that he was also in the SummerSlam main event (despite having a questionably presented run with the World Title) kind of puts him there on a technicality.
