Major moniter problem

On my other PC, my sister ****ed up the moniter somehow. I don't think she actually did anything to be honest, so it's probably a hardware thing.

She was printing something out, then the moniter just went out. It just turned off and a blue error message saying "No signal input or cable disconnected" comes on. At first I thought it was an issue with the moniter, so I plugged it into this PC and it worked fine. I then plugged this moniter into that PC, and nothing happened at all. So obviously it's an issue with the PC and not the moniter.

When I turn on the PC it makes three beeps, so there's an error of some sort. It happens like three or four seconds in. I can't see what the error message is saying (obviously ), so I can't help you out there...

I unlpugged the PC and then unplugged the moniter, re-connected the moniter then plugged the PC back in, to no avail. I'm totally stumped about how this would happen. I'm pretty sure my sister was just printing something out for school so I doubt she fucked some settings around or anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have 2 monitors, then plug the other one in the PC. It's probaby a video card issue.

take out the video card and put it back in, in a different slot.

Ok this is gonna sound stupid, but how exactly do I put the video card in a different slot? Won't that totally **** things up? I wasn't aware there was more than one spot a video card could go in...

Most videocards will only fit in 1 slot on your motherboard.

So unless your card is like 6 years old, that's most likely not an option.

Or he could be using an onboard card, also not making it an option. I had the impression that the computer was old though, and it's possible he can.

Nah the PC is relatively new (newer than this one even), so I don't know if that would apply. Would simply taking out the video card then re-inserting it do anything? Like if it somehow came loose or something?

I just don't wanna fuck anything up more than it is.

Yeah it is definitely a video card issue. Try removing it and putting it back in if you don't have any other slots.

Ok I removed it and put it back in and it's doing the same thing.

There are other slots, but the back of the PC still has the metal shit in the back in the way so I can't really put anything there unless I take them off.

Also, on my motherboard this green light is on, even when I turn the PC off. What's that mean?

Just means it's plugged in.

Try taking it out, turning the PC on, turning it off, then putting it back in.

This allows the drives to reset.

If that doesn't work, then it might be time to get a new video card.

Okaaaaaay I did that and nothing. I guess my video card is ****ed.

Oh well, I guess that kinda rules. That PC and this one both have a Geforce2 MX, so I can just buy a good video card for this PC and put this card into that one. Win-win

I'll have to suggest that idea to my dad...

happened to me once. I took all the casing off, blew out tons and tons of dust, layed the computer on its side, turned it on and it would show the motherboard logo on the screen the shutuff. So I hit F1 to go into setup even tho nothing was on the screen. Sure enough it took me to the BIOS screen. A few errors came up so I just fixed those, restarted the computer, worked fine. Kept it on its side dunno if thatll help tho

Yep and yep.

I also left the casing off to let it vent better.

If you had a lot of dust in your case that can really cause a problem. Dust can get in the fans and screw up everything. If that was the case, just be lucky that you didn't hurt anything else.

I'd try what Buzzkill said and if that doesn't work and you do have another slot, take off one of the metal casings on the back and put your card into the other slot. Try that, and if that doesn't work either then your videocard is probably shot. Only thing I can think of right now.

swap the video card that you know is good with the one that you think is bad and see if it works.
