Why don't they do PPV from Madison Square Garden anymore?
I just remember how historic shows always feel from there but now it seems like MSG is being relegated to house show use. What's the deal?

Capacity. They get bigger crowds at other venues, and that obviously brings more revenue.

Garden charges more and wants more of the gate than other places

I've also heard that it's a huge pain for them to get the tv production/broadcast equipment and setup in and out of MSG since they've done some renovations/remodeling to the venue.

I do miss the feel and vibe of RAWs and PPVs from MSG though. Always felt like a cool show that something big was gonna happen that you wouldn't wanna miss.

There was a report in the sheets awhile back that MSG is more expensive to run and sits less people than the newer, cheaper, and bigger Barclays Arena in Brooklyn.

Miss it as well. More than anything, the vibe and atmosphere was exceptional. Summerslam '98, Royal Rumble, so many great shows that the arena added to.

Was at WrestleMania 20 and the atmosphere was awesome....too bad they broke tradition and did 30 in New Orleans. Would've gone if it was in the Garden.

WrestleMania XX, what a show...loved the matches, the set design, everything...kinda have a love/hate relationship with regards to it now though with regards to both main event winners ending up dead within 3.5 years after it took place. Feels crazy to say, I know it should bring back the good things about them, but I absolutely cannot stand the famous hug photo...just find it way too damn depressing.
But yeah, times change and while MSG was a great 20th Century venue for all the stars of yesteryear to shine, I think WWE have done an excellent job recognizing that they need larger and more modern arenas for the big PPVs and such if they intend on attracting young and interested crowds in to wrestling shows in the 21st Century, especially with UFC and MMA cutting seemingly deeper and deeper into their fan base. |

I haven't been to MSG since the 80s, but I would venture to say that it's a HUGE pain to get stuff in and out of there.
Most arenas nowadays are more WWE friendly by way of logistics. Wrestlemania or Summerslam would be the only televised venues coming from MSG because they have the whole week to set up. |

They should have more MSG shows (non-PPV) but film them for the WWE Network. That would be great.

Weren't we just talking about how it's very difficult to get the filming equipment in to MSG?....

It's difficult, but a show from there once or twice a year could be a special deal and encourage more people to check out the Network for those "awesome MSG shows." Give them their own section on the Network, and do interviews with stars having their first matches there. Has Sting ever wrestled at the Garden? Sting vs. Seth Rollins in a main event for one of those shows could be electric, and you could get away with charging some more money at the gate for that.
Have Tamina Snuka do a Splash from the top of a cage to emulate her father and even do a Divas Title change there. Maybe do a surprise return or something, and have The Dudleyz work the show? People would hear about how electric it was and tune in. You don't even need the current set-up done. Just use a sleek, small-scale set of trons, and maybe give it an old-school feel. Pay Jim Ross to come in and do the announcing for the show. |

They should bring back the Mania 2 concept of 3 arenas for Mania 40.... MSG, Barclay's and whatever they call Uniondale now....

I'm sure they'll go back to MSG eventually for a PPV but it's better this way taking events and particularly WM to different venues.
Wouldn't mind a non-US/Canadian venue for a PPV like they did with Wembley back in 1992. |
