Monday Night War in 1995 (Podcast Question)
So, for this week's podcast we are starting a series on the History of the Monday Night War, with the first episode covering all the events of 1995 with backstage notes from newsletters of the time, and as always, we're looking for your thoughts on a couple of questions:
1. If you were watching at the time, what were your thoughts as the war began, and what were your viewing habits? 2. What are your high or low points for the War in 95? We'll be reading the best responses on the show and crediting you accordingly, but I'm interested to see how many were watching at the beginning, and what you made of what Raw and Nitro produced in 95 both then and now in retrospect. Crazy Like A Fox - The Definitive Chronicle of Brian Pillman 20 Years Later **Featuring interviews with members of the Pillman family, Dave Meltzer, Kim Wood, Raven, Jim Cornette, Mark Madden, Shane Douglas, Mark Coleman, Alex Marvez, Les Thatcher and many more close friends and colleagues** Available on Amazon now: http://amzn.to/2h93SxL |

I watched both, Nitro was on TNT and Raw started on Sky Sports right after, pretty much the whole way through I'd lose interest in Nitro by the main event, only so many nWo beatdowns you can watch before it gets stale.
Pretty much the only points I remember are guys jumping ship back and forth, only thing that made me care about Nitro at all some weeks. |

At the start I usually caught the gist of Nitro by watching WCW Saturday Nigh until they gutted the shit out of Saturday Night. I remember watching the first episode of Nitro live but thought it was a dirty tactic to have the show on when WWE was on hiatus from the Dog show. WWE should have stepped in and been more forceful about Raw being put on Monday when they found out about Nitro. Been watching Nitro replays now on the WWE Network and the show is pretty bad. Haven't got to the nWo stuff yet.
Later on I would flip back and forth but until the nWo started I barley watched Nitro it was so bad with the Dungeon of Doom. |

WCW was only on very late in syndication up in Canada, so WCW was hardly on my radar.
2. So many.lows, very few highs. |

oh and another high (umm... okay medium/hilarious point) would have been Barry Horowitz vs Skip. Loved it. I love Barry Horowitz, for he is Horowitz, king of the jobbers.

2) High Points - Was a big fan of HBK and Razor Ramon at the time. Also being the debut of The Ringmaster who later became Stone Cold Steve Austin. Low points - Diesel's title reign and WWF in general being really bad overall. Was a big reason why I started to get more interested in watching WCW along with WWF shortly before the war itself got really interesting. |

Highlight: Sunny.
Lowlights: Pretty much everything else. Really wish I knew about ECW back then I'd have been hooked way earlier. |

I stopped watching in '95. I kept up to date through the WWF Magazine up to about Survivor Series before I stopped following the product entirely until 1998.
I believe ITV had stopped showing WCW Worldwide by this point, and not having Sky meant I couldn't watch either brand. Looking back, King Mabel was a definite low point, his match versus Diesel at SummerSlam was the pits. |

I want to thank everybody for the responses - the show is now online as we talk about the creation and beginning of the Monday Night War. Timelining the events of 1995 with added details from the Wrestling Observer Newsletters of the time, as well as taking your feedback on viewing habits and the highs and lows, this show hits all the talking points of the time and a whole lot more. A fun show, check it out and let me know what you think!

1995 was a bit before my wrestling viewing, but my mom wouldn't let me watch WWF live, so I had to tape WCW as it aired at like 2am or something and watch it....then sneak watching the Raw replay on like Tuesday afternoon.... was far too young to notice they were competing....
