What plan? If anyone's plan failed it's NBC's. They only gave him 7 months of hosting and he was contracted to host for 5 years or something. Do what they should have done in the first place and put a good show at 10 but they have to keep Leno from going anywhere also so hey lets push Conan back and put Jay at 11:30. Conan doesn't like it and stands up for himself. Uh oh. So it seems Conan is going to leave so they end up giving Jay his job back.

Letterman appeals to the older crowd mostly and Conan appeals to the younger demographic while Leno appeals to middle-aged plus some of the younger and older crowd. But hen you look at it, it's not really about who's funnier or more entertaining, which is Conan by far but it's a combination of a lot of things. Most of the people who love Jay probably didn't give Conan a chance at all or they even went to Letterman.

Do you think that if NBC picked Letterman instead and Leno went to CBS that Jay would still have beaten him consistently in the ratings?

I don't think Leno will have any trouble coming back, pretty much for the opposite reasons that Conan's show didn't work. He's an established guy at that slot. Conan didn't have the two year chance he did. Also Leno will be given actual shows for lead-ins. Not a 10:00 talk show.

I assumed they got TNA 1st but yeah you are right. Forgot all about Ultimate Fighter debuting before their Unleashed show since Spike TV got TNA about a month after loosing WWE Raw.

I would bet if you looked at the user demographic of AOL it is heavily skewed towards the above 40 crowd.

Back to more important/better things, his final show was pure class... the speech he made about never being cynical where he almost started crying blew me away, and when he jammed with all those guys was just fucking awesome.

Seriously, Jay Leno was ready to retire, and move on. NBC would not let him. Leno was under contract, so his hands were tied. It's amazing how many unformed people there are out there. I'm kind of on this bandwagon. I don't think he orchestrated it or anything but I'm willing to bet he had his say in it somewhere. It's just alot easier to blame NBC because to the average television viewer, NBC doesn't have a face.

Where did I say I was closing my ears? I said I know it was more NBC's doing. I know Leno was ready to retire. I know NBC did what they had to do to keep him (I even said that).

If Jay Leno wanted to leave, he could have. The issue was that NBC did not want him going somewhere else (obviously), so they made it hard for him to "opt out" I guess is the right wording to use.

So again, I know it was more NBC's doing, but part of me suspects that Jay wanted the 11:35 slot back all along (in fact he said just that).

What irks me the most about all of this is I remember reading an interview with Leno a few years back about how he's never had much of an emotional attachment to the job, it's all about business to him, and it really shows. Conan obviously has a great deal of respect for the position and cares more about the integrity of the programming than the bottom line.

Couldn't also because he wanted to keep his staff of over one hundred people employed, right? And because he didn't want to ditch NBC, the network that made him a star when they need him the most.

He could have, you know, kept the show he already had. To my knowledge it wasn't on the verge of being canceled. In fact, it was doing just as they expected it would at that slot.

You mean how Conan wanted to keep his staff of over two hundred people, but couldn't because Leno whined about getting that slot back?

And yes, I know NBC offered to push Conan back half an hour, but really what does that do? It's still shitty how it went down no matter how you look at it. NBC comes across as being stupid, Leno comes across as being a dick, and Conan is out of a job for seven months because he didn't want to stay and ruin an almost 60-year tradition.

Well, I don't recall Jay ever whining, but anyhow, we're just going in circles with this......

I'm not going to bad mouth Conan, because I love Conan, and I loved his show. I honestly and truly wish it could have worked out for both of them. Either with Jay as host of the Tonight Show, and Conan hosting Late Night, or with Jay doing prime time, followed by Conan. Because they make a great team in my view, and I never wanted this to happen, and I'm sorry it did.

While I am on Team Leno and have been from the start, and do not think he is at fault at for all this happening, I still love Conan and don't think it's his fault either.

I'm watching his final show now on MySpaceTV because I missed his show Friday night, and just watching the intro, and thinking about all this gives me goosebumps. I do feel bad for Conan.

I wish this could have worked out for him. When I was a kid, and I'd watch Jay and Conan, I honestly thought one day Conan would take over for the Tonight Show, and it's truly a crying shame it didn't work out. He's a funny guy, and it sucks big time he's gonna have to sit on the bench for almost a freakin' year!

It also sucks that Conan cannot take all the trademarks that made him funny. I am honestly somewhat worried about his future, and I hope he figures it out, and finds a network that will let him have his own show, and he'll go back to making everyone laugh.

It seems there are a lot of things that you aren't getting. The AOL crowd, 40 and over or not, is only a small percentage of the entire viewing population that watches these talk shows. This is what you need to understand. Someone could put a poll somewhere else and it wont be the same.

And Leno could have left if he wanted. I even watched his show where he explained what went down between him and NBC. In fact in that interview it seemed like he just went with the flow and mentioned many times about NBC wanting to fire him. It sounded like he wanted to leave and he could have but he just went okay whatever I'll take the job at 10pm. Oh my show isn't doing so well? I see and you want to move me to 11:30 and push Conan back? Okay I guess. Now where are my pants?
