EVEN POSSIBLE TO LEAVE THEM WANTING “MORE” ON MONDAY NIGHTS?
www.pyroandballyhoo.com
I don’t know if there’s anything comparable to buying tickets to see your favorite artist perform, and the excitement and anticipation that goes with waiting for that day to come. The build-up of going to a concert is always special, being that it’s usually someone you admire and have been longing to see, combined with the fact that you always seem to have to purchase your tickets well in advance–especially if it’s an iconic figure. I can remember all the way back to 1977, when my friend Chykirda and I bought tickets to see KISS perform at Madison Square Garden. It was our first time seeing the band that we absolutely idolized. I can recall the sheer AGONY of buying the tickets six months in advance, and counting down every, single day off the homemade KISS calendars we made for the occasion. When I woke up in the morning, before I even took my first leak of the day, I raced over to that calendar and crossed off another day. To this very day I experience the same excitement when it comes to seeing someone I’m a huge fan of live. Last November my daughter, Annie, and I went to see RiRi—I swear I felt like a kid all over again. What’s she going to open with? What’s her closer? What do you think she’ll wear? YEAH—I thought about that. Will she play Hard–because if she doesn’t—I WILL BE PISSED!!! Then, the day of the show comes, you leave 2 hours early to make sure you get your seat—even though there is assigned seating. The lights go out. The crowd pops HUGE. RiRi hits the stage, I’m over come with emotion. I have a tear in my eye as I’m doing my best to shield myself from Annie because she will be embarrassed. Rhianna seductively breaks into Mother Mary—the place goes nuts. Soon after, the hits just start coming–one after the next. Umbrella, Rock Star, S & M–she’s bringing out all the heavies. Suddenly, you start realizing, that as she goes through her catalogue—this unbelievable night will be coming to a close. She belts out Diamond, we’re near the end. I’m starting to feel depressed. All the wait, all the anticipation—it seems like it all ended so suddenly—in a flash even. RiR’s kickin’ it up there—“Shine bright like a diamond.” This is her last song, I know because I cheated and went on-line and got her play list about a week ago. RiRi sings that last note, takes he bows and walks off the stage. I’m standing there, holding my RiRi program, and feeling sad . . . very sad. You know why? Because . . . RIHANNA HAS LEFT ME WANTING MORE. Has anybody out there, whether they’ve gone to the live show, or seen it on TV, said that after an episode of RAW? Seriously. At any point during the past three hours were you wishing that this show would NEVER END? Does the WWE leave you wanting more—EVER? Is that even possible today with a three-hour show? Do any of us even come within TWO HOURS of having that kind of attention span? Now, I said in my VIP podcast last night that the episode of RAW that had just ended was indeed a superior show when COMPARED to that of last weeks–not a superior show overall– mind you–but one when compared to last week’s hot mess. But, even with the show being better, by the time the half-way point had come around—I was complete toast. I wanted this thing to end, and I wanted it to end NOW. In 90 minutes I had seen enough. I had no desire whatsoever to see even a minute more. I had ingested my fill of wrestling for the night—or, week—rather. But, much to my chagrin, it went on—and, it went on—-and it went on. You know, I did some research pertaining to when Ed Ferrara and myself went to WCW in 1999. Out first 11 shows were actually–THREE HOUR MARATHONS. And, quite honestly, I don’t remember them being that difficult to write, and I certainly don’t remember them dragging. Whether you were a fan, or not, the show had a fast pace to it and brought you from segment to segment with rapid fire. We hit you with EVERYTHING whether you wanted it, or not!!! There was no BORING. There was no–can somebody put a bullet in this so we can go watch Eli. None of that! Again, this goes into what I wrote about last week–are those sitting at the gorilla position during the show not feeling this? Are they used to it? Or, even asleep–maybe? Yes, there were some good segments last night–the first two with the cage match, Cena/Heyman and the last two with the cage being lowered again into the extensive heat. What about the other ELEVEN SEGMENTS?! Quick–what did we miss?! Oh, yeah, Stephanie’s impression of all THREE STOOGES!!! Again, I’m not going to put excessive heat on the WWE. The time that they have to fill, with the creative structure that is in place to fill it—is not working. Are there too many hands in the pie? Are there too many opinions that have to be heard? After the creative masses are done debating is there just not enough time left to write a compelling show from START to FINISH? By the time we hit Friday do we just want to get the show over with so we can go home and get the hell away from Vince? I DON’T KNOW!!! But, what I do know is that something needs to give. I shouldn’t be sitting here every week just hoping that the show is watchable so I can get past the three hours without the temptation of drowning myself in my bowl of Fruit Loops. I should be HOPING that this show is going to be GREAT, and that when it’s over I WANT MORE. Not—-I need an ice bag to put on the top of my head because I feel like I was a passenger of the train wreck I just witnessed. Please, WWE. Was the show better? Yes—but, far from where it needs to be. Look at your show, look at the structure, figure out what is not working and why—then fix it. How difficult is that . . . .REALLY? http://www.tpwwforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31 TNARICK™ "The Legend" & R.I.C.K. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is he the most successful wrestling writer in history, as far as ratings go? Before you say who cares about ratings, remember, it's a business, everyone cares about them.

WWE makes money, Russo is unemployed.
Pretty sure they indeed do not give a shit about his opinion nowadays. |

Well to be fair, I think they made more money when he was writing for them than they do now.

If they cared about his ideas they could hire him.
It's not like he would turn it down. |

The thing is, even if Russo himself is not the solution, it's not as if he's wrong about the quality of the product or creative team. At least he recognizes the problems and is offering solutions.
Now, are his intentions pure? Probably not. He probably wants a job or is clinging to be relevant or something and is hoping his blog will eventually garner him that or at least an opportunity. |

I'll go to Russo for booking advice just after I stop by Cornette for those anger management tips.

Really, this is what Russo loves to do. He can't get paid to do it anymore and the only audience he has is those (few I would assume but maybe more) that checks his blog. He probably just enjoys doing this and has a lot of free time on his hands now.
