Word on the street is that the big announcment was actually MMA being legalized in New York.

The bill however wasn't passed as thought, and is up again for review next week.

According to the story, the bill was overwhelmingly voted down. Caplan reported a member of a major state athletic commission confirmed the original information and that this was the major announcement Dana White had talked about making tomorrow, which was later postponed to Tuesday.

The story said White was assured the bill would pass and the reasons the committee had a major change of heart is unknown. The story said that a committee member applied pressure after the session to get people to change their vote, and several republicans and a few democrats then attempted to change thir vote. The story said the bill will be put back on the agenda early next week, which is very unusual, and means there is a chance it could pass in time for Tuesday.

I don't see why the hell Dana White would want his employees in New York to announce something privately to them when the athletic commission would announce publicly anyway.

I worked with the Lighting Designer for Chuck Norris' World Combat League and he told me that it's going to be on CBS in 2009..

I don't think so. It was postponed before the second regulation hearing was scheduled for next week. Also what happens if they reject it again?

Dana has point blank told people it isn't this. Mind you, he said no to everything else and he is hardly gonna say "oh yeah that's it" if someone guesses it early.

Sherdogs reporting that the UFC are planning a free to air event on Spike TV on July 19th. Its rumoured they've asked Brandon Vera to main event against Wanderlei Silva.

If this is true, then its a strong effort to make up for the last card in UK(which wasnt UFC's fault, but still).

Okami is the last person to beat Silva (because of a rule that doesn't exist in UFC, IIRC). I'm gonna say Okami might win the first round, but Silva will go into Super Spyder mode and force a tap in Round 2.

Hendo-Franklin = the goods.

Griffin-Guida should be fight of the night.

Just announced (don't think this is the announcement either)

Anderson Silva v. James Irvin (at 205) and Hermes Franca vs. Frankie Edgar on July 19 on Spike TV head to head against the Affliction show. Silva isn't vacating the title and will fight at both weights.

That could backfire so badly for UFC. I'm pretty shocked they're putting Silva in that fight. Not that Irvin is gunna win, but if he were to knock Silva out on live television, major backfire. And no, moving to 205 would not be an acceptable excuse.

I asked Dana personally last week. He said the idea to make more smaller divisions and then to have everything below 155lbs in WEC and everything above in UFC so all the WEC bigger guys (Paulo Filho for example) will move to UFC.

Dana said basically the same thing in Montreal during the Q/A before UFC 83.

Although I think he said that it would be 155 and below when he was in Montreal. I thought that was wierd because I didnt think they would send BJ to WEC. But it makes more sense now with the rumours that BJ is going back to 170 to fight GSP.

If that happens, I could see them moving 155 to WEC.
