All Time Favourite Feud, And Why?

After a couple of weeks of impassioned debate, we're taking a lighter route for this week's podcast, and want to talk about some of the classic feuds in wrestling history, so the question I wish to pose to you is simple – personally, what is your all-time favourite feud, and more importantly, why?

Be it a forgotten gem or a renowned classic, feel free to detail what about it you loved that makes it stand out of the pack, and as always, we'll be reading the best feedback on the show and crediting your fine selves. I’m eager to see the variety in different people’s tastes for this when you have to whittle it down to personal favourite…

daimoniac does not have that much rep yet (10+)
looking back, i really enjoyed the whole Rugged Ronnie Garvin vs Greg Valentine feud - the whole thing where Garvin kept on coming back in non-wrestling roles (referee/ring announcer etc) and getting under Valentine's skin so much that Valentine went to the trouble to get Garvin reinstated for that PPV pay off submission match

Tommy Dreamer vs Raven in ECW. Tomny was such a great sympathetic babyface and Raven was such a tremendous heel, that week after week I'd wonder will this be the day Dreamer wins. He just made you want to pull for him so bad,

Easily it's Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant.

It was the feud that launched the advancement of the WWE. It's not just about WrestleMania 3. It is the most important part of the deal though as 93000 people came to Pontiac, Michigan in the SilverDome to see them fight. The feud launched the rest of the 3 Big Three PPVs and WrestleMania as a mainstay for the company.

In November 1987 Survivor Series was created and it was the first time Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant were in a match against one another since WrestleMania 3.

One of the main drawing points of the first Royal Rumble Special was a contract singing for Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan. This match would end up being the Dave/Earl Hebner screwjob which led to WrestleMania IV. Hulk and Andre got the first round bye and fough each other to double disqualifcation.

This led to Hulk and Andre's feud being linked with both Ted Dibiase and Randy Macho Man Savage. This would launch the first ever SummerSlam PPV in 1988. The Mega Powers united as one to face the Mega Bucks.

So, the feud launhed the grand unveiling of WrestleMania on national PPV television, launched the Survivor Series and SummerSlam. The off-shooting of the feud also led to the destruction of the Mega Powers and the main event also of WrestleMania V with Hulk facing Randy Savage.

A great feud doesn't live in a vaccum. If the feud begins and ends with just the people involved it's a failure. Hulk and Andre is one of the most influnecial feuds in the history of sports entertainment.

There could only be one other feud really in this discussion: Mr. McMahon and Steve Austin. That feud launched so many other feuds but it was at a time where wrestling was already established on national television. The fact that Hulk/Andre launched the "Big Four" makes it more important.

"Favorite feud" not "most important". Ergo, there can be more than one other feud in this discussion.

Without that feud there would be no other feuds except for the ones that Seth likes from Japan.

It's the feud that got me to love wrestling so it's my favorite anyways.

Triple H vs Shawn Michaels

The feud had so much emotion throughout. You saw Shawn Michaels make an amazing comeback and arguable be better than ever before. Every single match was AWESOME. It led to the birth of the Elimination Chamber. It helped make Chris Benoit's title win at WMXX become an (now tainted) iconic moment. It was the last feud that truly felt like a hate-filled blood feud that lasted for longer than 3 months. This angle lasted for 2 years, and they continued to show disdain for 2 more years after the HIAC match until the DX Reunion in 2006 that felt like a beautiful "full circle" moment in wrestling. When HHH and HBK both teased with crotch chops at WMXX, your heart fluttered and your mind raced at the once long forgotten memory of the stable that defined the greatest era in professional wrestling. Everything after that was loved by some and hated by some. I still wish we could have seen heel HBK vs babyface HHH during HBK's final year or so as a "payback" for the whole original HBK/HHH feud.

Not a huge Steve Austin fan.... but..... Bret Hart/Hart Foundation vs Steve Austin/USA.

As a kid, I just sympathized with Bret Hart because most everything he was saying about Austin was right... about how much of a poor role model he was, etc.....

But on the other hand I had to admit that Austin did have a certain "bad assness" to him.... that time he was in the ambulance and attacked Bret one of my favs.... and obviously WM13 one of my fav moments of all time....

Feud vs. Bret is pretty much one of the only times I enjoyed Austin, though.

Austin vs Rock.

Always liked how that feud started off in the midcard and then built up to the point that once both guys were main eventers, the bad blood between the two was well established.

Developed naturally as a mega feud and not something constantly force feed to the audience to accept like Orton-Cena. Also didn't suffer from all the established stuff being dropped on a whim as if nothing ever happened like with Henry-Rusev and other feuds in recent years.

Bret Hart vs Owen Hart because it was the most realistic feeling feud to me at the time. Also, the matches were awesome, and it launched Owen as a fantastic heel.

Always been a fan of Jericho/Benoit. Their similar history/parallel career paths tied them together and I can't remember a bad between them.

The Ladder Match at Royal Rumble 2001 was a personal favourite. Could have been one of those feuds that moved into the main event like Rock/Austin, Rock/HHH.

Was gonna say this as far as being one of my all time fave feuds growing up and watching wrestling... something awesome at the time

Watching youtube and looking back at great work, which is completely different than being in the moment and time, I'd have to say some of the best work I've seen in a feud is Macho and Hogan. It's a very basic story executed to perfection, albeit with a predictable (correct) finish. It came at a time where everything (for the most part) that happened, meant something, like when the mega powers joined together, Savage formerly being a heel played a part in making the mega powers bond all that more special, because the two had spent a lot of time fighting against each other, which was why it was so important and special that the unit was formed, and the personalities were so big, that at some point they had to clash, as was the plan from the beginning.

In my humble opinion it was the best mic work I've ever seen out of Savage, and Hogan was also brilliant. Liz was the perfect vehicle along with the title to bring the heat to full boil, and knew how to come across as the subtly strong, sympathetic face. All around great work.

The Von Erich's vs The Freebirds - This feud has to be on anyone's list for all time greatest imho. It worked great because the fans never saw it coming. The Freebirds came into World Class as friends of the Von Erich's. Just an amazing chemistry together.

The Von Erich's vs Gino Hernandez/Chris Adams - Their hair match at the Cotton Bowl is just so fun to watch. You would think Gino and Chris had no idea they were gonna get their heads shaved. The Dynamic Duo were just so good together.

Jerry Lawler vs Bill Dundee - Two guys who had such a great partnership either as friends or enemies in the ring. They carried their feud off and on for nearly 20 years.

Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat - These two put on some of the greatest matches ever! Flair being the cocky heel. Steamboat being the family man.

Ric Flair vs Terry Funk

Shane Douglas vs The Pitbulls - Shane was just so awesome as a heel in his promos after "breaking" Gary's neck when he removed the halo.

The 4 Horsemen vs Dusty Rhodes - Dusty representing the common man while the Horsemen represented wallstreet and greed. Just a great feud that was meant for the 1980's.

Raven vs The Sandman - This to me was better than the one Raven had with Dreamer. It was such an emotional storyline. Raven brainwashing Sandman's son Tyler and wife Lori.

Tyler says to Sandman - "Daddy you're a drunk and now I worship Raven". Sandman walks to the back in tears.

Chris Jericho vs. Dean Malenko

This was actually the feud that got me into wrestling, more than Hogan vs Sting or Austin vs McMahon or any of the other big feuds going on at the time. Jericho was really starting to hit his peak as the best heel in the company who wasn't part of the nWo (well, maybe second-best, since you had Eddie Guererro getting into his groove around the same time), and Malenko was the perfect foil for him by being the complete opposite in demeanor. Jericho would talk up a huge game and be over-the-top and obnoxious, and Malenko would just beat the hell out of him while barely saying a word. I came into wrestling knowing it was all a work, but Jericho's heel work was what got me to be able to suspend my disbelief and get into the show, just to see the infuriating little bastard finally get what's coming to him.

Plus, there's always that Slamboree Battle Royale, which was one of the best moments in WCW's history:

Stone Cold Steve Austin feuding against Bret Hart and the Hart Foundation.

I think this was the greatest story ever told, Austin pushed Hart to the limit, and Bret made Austin more popular than ever. their closing match at Wrestlemania 13 started the attitude era.

I'll second this. This feud was the first time that I can remember WWE openly acknowledging the blurred lines of 'good' and 'evil'. It had a truly 'non-cartoon' feel to it that sparked many more feuds of a similar ilk. Even though Bret's feud with Owen (which again, I loved) didn't feel like a cartoon, they were very aggressive in making Owen look like a dickhead, when in actuality, the motivation for his turn wasn't really that far-fetched.

True. Good heels don't hurt feuds, either.

In the second Michaels/Jericho feud, Jericho was pretty much COMPLETELY right.

Yes. His point was that the fans were hypocrites. They would cheer Shawn Michaels no matter what he did, simply because he was Shawn Michaels. Remember how he faked a knee injury to defeat Batista, and Jericho called him out on it? People were literally cheering him for cheating. Jericho, on the other hand, was a decent and honorable man getting booed for exposing the truth. When the wife-punching part came about, it was like "fuck it, this is clearly what you want, so let's make it count".

Want to say Sting vs NWO, but I can't They fucked it up too bad at the end, for it to be my favorite.

Gotta go with Flair vs Steamboat. So many great matches, and promos.

Also, Tanahashi vs Nakamura in NJPW has always delivered as a feud.
