PG beat me to it. Love and Monsters has to be the worst post-revival Doctor Who episode. I would be utterly shocked it another episode was that bad for a long time, though.

There have been some pretty bad ones, it's just that they get absorbed by the good. Farting aliens? Pretty bad. The episodes, however, had some good moments. Plus, "Boom Town" had Jack in it. And the scene where the Slytheen was trying to kill the Doctor in the restaurant is awesome.

I agree. I also have enjoyed it even more since Moffat took over. My least favourite Season 5 episodes still rank in at "pretty good." And season 6 was strong so far.

And you will notice most of these episodes were Moffat. God, I love that guy.

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances are awesome for many reasons. They're dark but charming, with an actual happy ending (Which seems to be really rare in Doctor Who), they introduce Jack (Who is awesome in DW but sucks in TW). The enemy is tremendous, and the backdrop is wonderful. I'd like the new Who from the beginning, and I think Eclleston helped sell me on it, but this was what really got me.

It's a common thing with Doctor Who really. They want the publicity for returning stuff, so it inevitably gets splashed all over the front of the Radio Times or wherever.

There's only a few times where they've managed to keep things really, really secret. It's virtually impossible these days.

There's "keeping it secret" and "not advertising it in the promo with exclamation points!!!!!"

The former is borderline impossible. It's also not what I'm complaining about.

And the "give it away in the preview" seems to be common enough any British series I have with any drama in it does the same, provided the previews are actually shown on the DVDs. Since, you know, I don't get BBC natively. Though BBC America broadcasts the same promos usually. As opoposed to Sci Fi, who go to the other extreme and try to lie to you.

...You know, I really don't miss watching Doctor Who on Sci Fi.

At least they don't really do what they used to do. Name stories *something* of the Daleks and then have the cliffhanger at the end of the first episode be their "shocking" appearance.

People in TV obviously value the pull of a certain returning element rather than surprising viewers.

Honestly, the Doctor Who previews don't bother me that much because the episodes themselves are usually still entertaining leading up to the spoiled build up and provide lots of little hints to the doctor's backstory or things to come.

While it wasn't the end of part 1 that served as a cliffhanger, they still named it such and then had most of the first ep revolver around pigmen. Which was pretty damn dumb. Mostly because who gives a fuck about pigmen?

I'd personally just prefer not seeing them in the credits for the prior episode. My mom, one of the least observant people ever, caught the Daleks in one of the previews.

While it's not a tragedy of epic proportions, it's an annoyance. Like most of the big endings being asspulls. It's fucking retarded to be all "Surprise! Suspense!" And then be all "oh, by the way, Daleks/Cybermen/River Song dies!"

I wish they would give the Daleks a rest. What I gathered from the preview for the second half of the new series, the Weeping Angels are going to return. They are going to ruin them by over usage.

The Angels are already starting to suck by having been used more than once. They're less mysterious and scary. Moffat actually "forgot" to send someone back in time....

To be fair, RTD was too busy deep throating the Doctor and his old enemies to be bothered.

Plus, it couldn't have sat well that Moffat's Angels were more popular than his creations.

On the other hand, it also meant fifteen "last of the Daleks" episodes, as opposed to one (so far, anyway), Cybermen both awesome and silly (Though Moffat did both in one episode), and a Master everyone seemed to hate. But honestly, I think if you're crazy enough to send giant soccer balls with ginsus in them down to eliminate the planet, you're probably crazy enough to do it to Europop.

Speaking of, there's another pointless kill off.

Though not to put all the blame on RTD, I didn't particularly think bring back the Angels ws a good idea. I'm underwhelmed by the "reveal" of who River is, and the whole "Medicap ship stalking humans" thing is eerily similar to the Moffat-penned "The Empty Child/the Doctor Dances." Only, you know, not as good. Sexy Siren was still decent, and proves that Doctor Who can put on a better pirate story than Disney, but STILL.

Anyway, RTD really misused a lot, so I can sorta live with S&M misusing his own creaation. I'm not pleased, but....
