I hated her guts at first she was a loud shrieking bitch the dr may as well have been traveling with a howler monkey but she mellowed out in her run as a companion proper
Martha and Amy are my tops Martha just barely edging out Amy in terms of likeability |

but she still annoyed me if my wedding day consisted of a trip to space in a police box with a 900 yr old time traveler I' d be jarred to say the very least but I would hardly consider my day ruined and the last thing in my mind would be a wedding but like I said that was probably exactly the point. HA HA I love that sketch. Am I bothered my liege? Last edited by KIRA; 08-26-2011 at 10:03 AM. |

Amy definitely progresses, which makes Rose look worse by comparison, because they're quite similar. |

Oh and yeah, the skit is funny. Think it's a retread of the french class one, but with a sonic screwdriver.

I think why I liked Martha was because I saw her as the only companion that was an asset not a liability.

Also isn't a Mary Sue someone who shares similar traits with the viewer/reader?
I'm fairly certain people who are bumbling idiots are more likely to watch Jersey Shore then Doctor Who. |

Oh right, well I meant a character made that viewers can relate to.
there a term for that? Last edited by El Fangel; 08-26-2011 at 07:56 PM. |

I honestly don't know one. Except "idiot," because even if the fanbase isn't a bunch of morons, they will be reflected as such. That's how the networks tend to see viewers. Anyway, people tend not to agree on what constitutes a Mary Sue, but she meets a lot of common criteria. I suppose the correct term is "Canon Sue," since she's an official character. Doesn't matter much. She was useful quite frequently because she would suddenly have amazing capacity as the story dictated. Also, several times it relied on the Doctor being a completely uncharacteristic moron. |

Thing is, since the Brits are ahead of us time wise, you can usually download a quality Doctor Who torrent hours before the show airs on BBC America. Might do that.

I think it's funny that most of us here place Rose as one of the least favorite of the Doctor's companions and Martha as one of the favorites when the critics and fans consistently put Rose at the top of the list and Martha is merely an after thought, if she is mentioned at all.

But...but...Rose was an afterthought.
Even later when they gave her a big gun I still didn't like her. |

However, I'd note her popularity is persistent primarily with new Who fans, who may be biased towards her because she's the first companion. I got accustomed to her to the point I was sad to see her go. Until Martha came along, and I was like "Rose Who?" And admittedly, one of the big things that draws me to Martha is her role as "Not Rose." Though Donna is better. Sarah Jane regularly wins popularity contests, which is probably also partially because of her lengthy tenure on the old series. At the beginning of her return, she actually threatened to become interesting. That didn't last long, because Rose wouldn't be Rose if she didn't constantly whine. The world's ending, and she's all "But I was here first!" |

Me neither it was a poor attempt to make her more badass like Martha and they failed miserably although I still preferred her along with Tennant never really felt that much chemistry between her and Eccleston.

Rose and Eccleston seemed more like a platonic relationship on the Doctor's end, but not on Rose's end.

Oh man that last episode was awesome but the next one appears that it will be the lowpoint of the entire season.
