Talking Point of the Week: Using other people's moves
TLP Talking Point of the Week:
With Seth Rollins apparently using the Pedigree now, we're going to be discussing wrestlers using other wrestlers' moves. Examples include Seth Rollins using the Pedigree and the Miz using the Figure Four, both with the blessing of their previous users. There are also cases where moves are copied as a parody, like when Mickie James started using Trish Stratus's Chick Kick. Ans of course there are Rock & Austin, who would sometimes use each other's finishers on each other. What are you thoughts? Do you like or dislike when wrestlers use other wrestlers' moves? Is it appropriate for wrestlers to add other wrestlers' moves to their permanent moveset? What about just occasionally using someone's move against him? Why? |

I hate the trading back and forth, it was interesting once but now it is done so often it just comes off as meh and cheapens the finisher. I like the idea of passing it on or adding a slight twist to the move that makes it the wrestlers own, whether it's how they lock the move in, set it up or how it is sold.

I feel like it depends. Some are cyclable but if so ebody started usin the Stone Cold Stunner it would be weird as fuck. Some moves need to be left alone.
In this instance, the pedigree makes sense. Trips doesn't wrestle a ton and Rollins is the golden child of the authority. He should probably learn to do it better though. |

Funny that he went from the curb stomp to the pedigree for safety reasons though, seeing as how the bump taken is almost identical.

I like when wrestlers do it to their opponent, as a form of insult. Basically "Fuck you, I want to beat you with your own move. How's my dick taste?"

Isn't it possible for the person giving the pedigree to have his knees hit the mat first and keep the other guy's head just a bit above?

Don't have any problems with wrestlers borrowing or stealing finishers from others as long as they can do the move correctly. Same as if its done as an insult to their opponent like Innovator said.
Miz messing up more often than not with the Figure Four just makes the move lose its luster. People trying to beat Taker with his own tombstone finisher helped add some excitement to the streak matches. |

Finishers that are outdated, The Figure Four, need to not be recycled.
Love when Wrestlers A uses Wrestler B's own finish against him. |

I don't have a problem with it, because the reason it is a person's "finisher" is because THEY are good with it. Just because someone does the move in a match doesn't mean they are as good with it. I also think that more matches should end with moves other than "finishers".

Can't forget Booker T and the Bookend.
I like the idea of Rollins using the pedigree because HHH isn't full time any more. I thought when Sandow was doing the mimicking thing that after he left Miz he would just mimick his opponents and use thier finishers. |

I'm cool with it if the person can do the move well. I especially love when people use their opponents finisher as a way to insult them.

I have no problem with it within the context of a story. Seth Rollins using the Pedigree makes perfect sense, but I do think he needs to work on it. Something just doesn't look...right about it. I also like it when someone adapts his opponent's finisher as his own. Rollins using the RKO on Orton, for example. And hell, if Rollins is good at it, I don't see why he can't keep doing the move. It works as an "Outta Nowhere" type finish, which is great for either a pop or a heel to steal a victory. I miss the days when two guys would both use a move and you could hypothetically build a feud around it.
I always thought Ambrose should try and beat Rollins with his own Curb Stomp too. Kane and Taker using the Tombstone worked. Damien Sandow beating The Miz with the Figure Four would have been a nice touch too. From that moment on, Sandow could have taken the Figure Four and adapted it into his moveset on a semi-regular basis. It starts with Sandow copying The Miz to break out of his shadow and prove that the "stunt-double" was superior, but it continues with Sandow being able to do the move well and finding success with it. I also like the idea of a heel character who uses his opponenets' moves to beat them as a bit of a gimmick touch. It's not too late to go in this direction with Seth Rollins, but I feel it could work for getting someone up the card. Basically the heel would be adding insult to injury, but would also be showing off how versatile there are: "There's not a move I cannot master." For big PPV matches, they could even go on a "classic signature move tear" and bust out all the classics they know. It's a small touch in matches where Triple H uses the Crossface or the Figure Four, or Dolph Ziggler busts out a Superkick -- but it could add to anticipation if there's a guy and you don't really know what he is going to pull out next. |
