BTW, Taz circa ECW would have totally killed the Mountain and saved Tyrion. Just saying.

I was thinking they should show Tyrian in the back with Scott Norton.
Scott, did you hear what the mountain guy was saying about your mother? |

I don't know why, but I thought GoT creative was going to book some extra to appear after the main event trial combat and shit their pants to further stress the events that went down. It would have took the edge off a little

This show really sets some really good stuff set alongside some really awful stuff, it's really jarring at times.
However, the gratuitous scene of Missandei's jubblies and bum was top class. |

They were way better than the bar scene. Those wenches were dirty and burping. That's probably how they were tracked down and burned to the ground

Ya, never expected Missandei to have such a fabulous ass. Can't blame GreyWorm one bit.

That was sweet. That guy did nothing of interest for 7 episodes then in like 30 seconds of fighting and trash talking I instantly cared and wanted him to ideally not get his head squashed. Too bad. Hope they don't kill off Tyrion. Dumb if they do.

Is this the only GoT episode that wasn't segmented with other storylines?

Season two had an entire episode about Stannis' attack/the battle of the Blackwater/King's Landing.

Thought it was lame when the rate giant hulkef up and just lifted the gate that multiple giants and a mastodon couldn't break.
Can't believe that Andre the giant ended up losing the tunnel handicap match again the shield. Jon vs kurgan was a good fight. Jon came down kicking some ass. Dude is becoming the man after a few seasons I hated him. Wall anchor was killer. I want one for my house, I want a spin off with elevator boy - kind of a medieval Bruce Wayne avenging his parents death. Hate sam and his whore story. The berserker had like 5 arrows in him and was still fighting. Tossing ser Allison overt he top rope for the count out. |

Actor who plays Grenn was really underrated. His acting in the tunnel was brilliant. You could just see the fear in his eyes, and his speech was really heartfelt. I teared up when the giant was charging, because I knew what it would mean. Whole episode was brilliant.
As a book reader, I was pleasantly surprised by the combination of both wall attacks. They handled it really well, and it worked in a way that didn't ruin anything. |

Thought that was all a bit boring for me, to be honest. Whole episode dedicated to a part of the story I don't care about at all. Some good action stuff obviously, but none of it really meant anything to me because they could've blown up every single person/giant/bald thing there and I'd have shrugged.
Like Triple A said, whole of season 4 seems to have gone by really quickly without anything really happening. Obviously that's an exaggeration but it seems to have just plodded along for 9 episodes. |

Joffrey's death, Tyrion's death sentence, Daenerys capturing all of Slaver's Bay wasn't enough? Remember this was half a book and there are still an episode left.

I wonder if Kit Harrington got some mad overtime pay for this episode? When the credits rolled during the opening and only like 5 names appeared, I was like whoa.

All the Joffrey stuff which lead into the Tyrion stuff was great. Everything else very boring (again exaggerating as there's been some great scenes here and there).
I'm underselling the show a lot, I'm aware of that. It looks great and it's extremely well acted etc etc but it has a huge tendency to have 30 minutes of dreary, boring, interchangeable characters blabbering on and 20 minutes of amazing television each episode. |

While I can see some of what you're saying as far as this season goes, this episode was anything but boring. Dunno how you can't be interested in what's going on at the wall. They're the unsung heroes of Westeros. You're falling into the same trap that the rest of Westeros has. Nobody there gives a shit about the wall, or their plights, struggles, or drama. But their struggle is the most real of anyone's. This episode was a way to show how legends are MADE, while the rest of the show has been about legends that already exist, or that already had their day in the sun.
We got to see two living legends duel to the death last episode, which ended in disappointment. While the lords of Westeros are playing their games, enjoying feasts and laughing amongst each other while painting Tyrion as their scapegoat, we get to see who the real men of Westeros are. The real heroes. We see a group of forgotten boys and criminals, fighting not only for their lives and the lives of their brothers, but for all of Westeros. We got to see a boy fight a hulking monster of a man (Jon vs the Magnar), and come out alive on the other side. No disappointing end like the Viper vs Mountain fight. We get to see real retribution when Jon buries the hammer in the Magnar's skull. We see an army of a hundred thousand wildlings fighting for their own survival, and a cause they believe in wholeheartedly. Versus a group of dwindling soldiers who forsake their own desires in the name of brotherhood and sacred oaths. Grenn dying in that tunnel like that was one of the most noble deaths in all the series up to now. His conversation with Jon when Jon sends him down there, and then the pause where Jon says that he has to hold the tunnel no matter way, was heart wrenching. You knew right then that Jon was ordering him to his death, but that it was for all of their benefits, because Grenn was the only one Jon could trust to get it done. Grenn was ready to die out of loyalty to Jon and his brothers, while Janos Slynt was the polar opposite and was off cowering in fear because he wasn't a true brother of the Night's Watch. We get to see the different kinds of men that populate Westeros, in all the different places, in all walks of life. Even Alliser Thorne had his moment, going from someone we all hated, to someone you can't help but respect after his speech to Jon. Then we see how wholeheartedly he gives himself to defending The Wall when he throws himself fiercely at Tormund Giantsbane. He is a brother of the Night's Watch and takes his vows seriously. I honestly thought this was one of the most well done episodes of the whole show, on so many levels and regardless of the liberties taken in things changed from the books (of which there were quite a few). |

The only thing I don't care about in the least is Bran's storyline. I guess Hodor beasting that guy was pretty sweet though.
