The Brian Kendrick appreciation thread
A former WWE & World Tag Team Champion, Brian Kendrick had a pretty entertaining run in the WWE.
Feel free to post pictures and videos related to "Spanky dawg" in the premise of this thread. |

I like Brian Kendrick, but I loved him as The Brian Kendrick.
I get the feeling he could have been something decent in the WWE other than what he became before being released, that being a whiny semi-jobber who's worst loss was to Lawler, of all people. I think he could have had a good Intercontinental Title reign maybe or United States Title reign, but sadly, he just couldn't lay off the pot. I would love to see him back in the WWE as The Brian Kendrick but I know that won't happen. |

Drew McIntyre basically looks like a giant version of him anyways. So it is like he is still around.

Really loved when he got remade as The Brian Kendrick but also hated how he wasted that great chance because of him caring a lot more about getting high at the cost of a good push. Very similar to RVD how he wasted his great chance to become a bigger star once he won the gold.
Did like his character in TNA since it was basically the same as in the WWE. |

I LOVED The Brian Kendrick. It's a shame that Kendrick could not play ball with the company, because I had the feeling that he was in for a massive push in the coming year. I could have totally seen him winning Money in the Bank at WrestleMania XXV.
Everything about the character just clicked. He was deeper than your arrogant heel, and there was a darkness to go alongside the quirkiness of the character. It was more "Hollywood" than a lot of WWE characters, and I wonder if a lot of that had to do with Freddie Prinze, Jr. being on the writing team at the time? Big Zeke added the size and credibility that Kendrick did not have. The idea was that Kendrick was amazingly talented and brilliant in the ring, but he lacked muscle -- so he found the biggest, baddest dude he could. I remember when they had Zeke shake off a chair shot from Triple H. It was way too early from a traditional booking standpoint for the character to win the Scramble Match, but my preferred booking for the WWE Championship Scramble would have been for things to have gone exactly as they did, but towards the end of the match Kendrick would get a steel chair and start decimating everyone in sight. The referee would call DQ after DQ, but then Kendrick would pin a broken Jeff Hardy and get the pin and as the time limit was expiring and become the official WWE Champion. It would have totally been in line with Kendrick's "I'm the smartest guy in the match" approach to the match, and it would have put over how dangerous Kendrick can be. It would have given Triple H something to do in the coming months, as Kendrick could have been quite the antagonist for Triple H. Kendrick could have brought up that he was trained by Shawn Michaels, who passed on all Triple H's weaknesses onto Kendrick. When it came to their WWE Title match, Kendrick would put up an honourable fight, but would clearly be out-classed by Triple H. Just as it looks like Kendrick is about to get Pedigree'd and lose the title, however, Big Zeke would come in and take Triple H down. The storyline would then have evolved into Triple H looking for a one-on-one bout with Kendrick where he would be able to get his hands on him without Big Zeke interference. To do this, Triple H would have emphasised the "Cerebral Assassin" elements of his character. On a SmackDown heading into a PPV bout between the two, Triple H takes on Big Zeke, and Triple H then pulls out his trusty "Equalizer," the sledgehammer. Triple H nails Zeke, and takes him out of the picture for Kendrick and Triple H's No DQ WWE Title match at the next PPV, where Triple H would regain the title. Kendrick's attitude would have made this blow up in their faces, but it would have made for personally enjoyable television, and I think it would have maximized the use of The Brian Kendrick as a character on SmackDown. |

Probably because they used a bad picture of Kendrick in the "totally looks like" comparison.
I remember seeing a picture of Drew lately, and outside of the ring picture.... and I legit thought it was Kendrick until I noticed how tall he was and then I was all "WAIT A SEC THAT'S DREW" |

Drew and Brian are both very pretty men. Would love to see them as a heel team in the WWE, actually.

Either that or a heel Drew targeting Brian out of a hatred for himself.

The lack of "Boner's dead" in this thread is an insult to the man's career.

Also, as entertaining as London and Kendrick were as a tag team, this is about where the WWE stopped giving a fuck about the division. I mean, they had a great tandem look, entrance, and with the mask gimmick and everything, and creative couldn't even be assed enough to give them a name to market it with.
As far as TBK and Zeke, the relationship was kinda simbiotic. Aside from him getting the HBK/Nash type push, Kendrick's charisma and mic skills made up for Jackson's lack of them. Being "the man of few words" like in that Sun Tzu promo up there, kind of gave Zeke a mystique while hiding how green he was/is talking. Could have gave him time to work on that behind the scenes while paling around with TBK had Kendrick not pissed his opportunity away. It seems like in this case, he not only screwed over his own career, but Zeke's as well. Even now, he's not ready to stand on his own. He's just big, generic black guy #432... and guys need more than to just be another Ahmed Johnson in the looks department to stay relevant. |

I was a big fan of the London and Kendrick tag team duo. So much so that I would create a CAW of myself, Scott Roberts, to form a trio with them on Smackdown vs Raw 2009. We were a high flying trio much like they had in the dying days of WCW with 3 Count and The Jung Dragons. I would usually unashamedly get the count with my patented Scott Splash from the top rope.
