Just a few thoughts:
Took some adjusting but Capaldi is a welcome change. Paternoster Gang FTW I love that the Doctor gives that stare to the camera again after killing the Cyborg. I'm pumped from Missy to the questions about the doctors new form I am gonna enjoy this season. |

Not enjoyed the last two episodes.
Capaldi has been great, but the script and stories haven't been the standard I hoped. |

Yeah, got caught up with Saturday's episode earlier. Was a bit of a "nothing" episode.

Still managing a massive 'meh' to this season.
Not Capaldi, he has been great. But there have either been terrible premises or terrible scripts. Or both. |

Sadly the new series hasn't quite come up to the level of its lead yet, I think the change in tone is catching a few of the writers out as much as the viewers at times, next weeks (Blow up the Moon) looks like a real old school premise which should fit the new Doctor better, and the arc seems to be coming clearer now (God?!?)

I haven't seen any episode since the 2nd in the season, totally killed my interest since. Are the latest episodes better?

Depends, what are you looking for from the show?
Ep. three is much more comedic in tone than the rest, and by all press accounts the next two (Kill the Moon and Mummy on the Orient Express) are both scary with overtones of the early (70s/80s) series of the show. |

Just in terms of a general plot line for the series. There is the stuff with Missy but even that seems so lackluster compared to most of the previous series. The last series started out terrible also but at least had a good premise to it in my opinion.

I'd agree the arc seems poor, partly because they don't really seem to have invested much time in it, but I would say some of the individual episodes are strong, there is certainly enough in them to offer hope for the future.
The interplay between Mr Pink and the Doctor in the last episode was well done on both sides which is promising too, if rumors are to be believed. |

Well, I wasn't expecting that revelation at the end of the episode....

I was, I think I'm underwhelmed and a little angry that I figured out who she was before this episode. There is a nice twist but all of this lacks punch for some reason.

I am "ok" with the reveal- it had to be someone already in the series given the super lack of character development and there's only so many times you can bring the Daleks and Cybermen back. Oh wait...

Yeah, that's part of my complaint I was like the Cybermen really suddenly I feel like I've already seen this.
I mean I like them but the Doctor needs some more sworn enemies or maybe just a bigger rotation in his rogues gallery. |

Well, The Master regenerating/however-they-have-brought-the-character-back as a woman leaves the door open for any future Doctors being female.

Would have been a nice reveal if they hadn't shown the Cybermen in the trailer.

Am waiting to see what they do next week before passing too much judgement on the whole Missy thing. I don't get the references to 'my Boyfriend' in Deep Breath and the kiss and some of the other comments that Missy has made, but there is still time to explain some of that so we shall see.
I knew Missy had something to do with the Cybermen, as I passed her walking to filming a few months ago. Still think I can spoil the end of the series. It ends with an awkward hug in a cafe. As I saw it filmed and they haven't used it yet. Or they've cut that scene. One of the two. |

Tore up a bit at the end myself. Good finale, but still felt like a rushed season overall.

Really enjoyed Michelle Gomez' take on The Master. Still very, very crazy but not quite as OTT as the previous incarnation.

I've liked the new Doctor, and the dynamic between him and Clara, but I haven't thought much of the episodes themselves, including the finale. Hopefully, the Xmas special will be an improvement.

I don't think I like the new doctor. Something with him is a little off to me but I can't quite figure it out exactly.

He is meant to be off. Far more in the character of classic Who than new Who. Certainly I get the feeling that there is a significant element of Third Doctor about this one, in terms of both look and character. The finale was .....good. But not great. There were some things that worked, and other bits that didn't. The whole killing Osgood thing was disappointing as she had potential to be a great re-occuring character or stop-gap companion, but it served the purpose of putting Missy over. The whole Danny/Cyberman thing was incredibly well acted and well done, but the concept of him being able to beat his programming also just seemed a bit cheesy. The same with the Brigadier, nice nod to an old character, but again, just not quite right. This whole series has struck me as being incredibly inconsistent and lacking direction. The character of the Doctor and Clara has changed from week to week and it has made it difficult to fully get their relationship, and it hasn't felt like they invested that much into the relationship between Danny and Clara either. It was mostly carried out in montages and explanations rather than seeing it develop and how much they care about each other in the way the did very effectively with Amy and Rory. I think part of the problem was they were essentially starting from a blank slate. Each writer has interpreted the two characters slightly differently, as they are both new (technically Clara wasn't, but her character has been blank from day one) which might explain this inconsistency. Hopefully that will improve for the second series of the 12th Doctor. And the Christmas episode will be shite, they always are (with the exception of last year, as it wasn't a Christmas episode, it just happened to be shown at Christmas) |

Did they explain The Doctor having the same face as the guy in Pompeii?

It is also the same face as John Frobisher from Children of Earth. Apparently Russell T Davies always had a plan for that, and when Capaldi was cast Moffat phoned RTD and asked him about it and how to incorporate it into the new Doctor. I guessed it would be a theme going by Deep Breath, but was never mentioned again. I have no problem with them not solving that straight away, as planting seeds for plots that could be in two series time is entirely sensible. But could have done with referencing it again I think. |

I seem to remember that as well. Something along the lines of it being a face he happened to randomly recognize during his regeneration and he held onto it and took it as his new face. Something like that.

This is probably why I haven't taken to him as I have no grasp on the old doctors. My experience has been with the last 3 or 4 doctors only. This was a big change for me as such.

Quite a different show, particularly in it's pacing. Each story was 4-6 half hour episodes rather than a 45 min stand alone story. But aside from the occasionally shockingly bad special effects, you can see elements of the Doctor character really shining through as familiar even from the first episode. |

Oh hey, wanted to pop by and just say that the last series was terrible. Capaldi's great, Coleman needs to go. And Moffat. I want them to bring Wilf back as a companion. Two old farts stumbling around the galaxy would be great.

hated the guitar scene, not because it was particularly cringeworthy but because it seemed indefensibly reckless for a man who once almost canned rose as a companion for saving her dad, a miniscule historical change that ended up with, like, time-pterodactyl-monsters or whatever destroying london. hard to see how the clear, far more widespread disruptions the doctor brought upon mediaeval england chronology wouldn't have far larger consequences than anything his companions have done before, idk. really bugged me. felt v out of character, even if he was a bit unhinged because of everything.
really dug the use of past lives and old monologues and stuff to tie together the story though, that was v cool |

it only seems unsettling. doctors one, six and seven didn't even have a sonic screwdriver, and the second doctor only used it sparingly, like less than his stupid recorder even
but it's been a fixture/crutch for every doctor since nine/the revival began, so i actually am kind of interested to see if they make him use his brain a little bit more to solve things or if he still just magics his way out of problems using the sonic sunglasses or whatever they're calling ray-ban's well placed advertising dollars with the guitar setpiece in the first ep though this is pretty quickly becoming the doctor's midlife crisis, idk |

I totally thought Coleman would be stuck in the Dalek suit because that's how she was introduced in the beginning. It would have been a good way to get Missy back as a proper villain and also get a new companion as I am with Iggy here- good to look at but she sucks as a companion.

Are these two-episode story arcs going to be the norm this season?
I kind of like it that way. The final season of Enterprise did two and three episode story arcs, and it was a lot stronger for it. |
