Never read the book but the show has some very annoying qualities to it. Before I continue, it reminds me of the show Lost. I've seen every episode of Lost but do not recommend it to my friends, nor will I until I see the finale. While week to week I'm entertained with Lost and find it to be a good show, it's also a very annoying show and I wonder if the payoff will infact be worth it.
As for FlashForward, we are 2 episodes into it now and there is a major plot flaw in my book, that being with the FlashForward blackouts themselves. Everyone had a blackout at the same time and date, and people are aware of the time and date. The blackouts are of their future self at that specific time. Based on the FBI guys blackout, we can assume the future self is aware of the blackout happening since he is constructing a case (despite the fact this would create some sort of infinite mobius strip type of time loop). But if we were to assume the future self is aware of the blackout, then how stupid is the entire world. They all saw into the future at a specific time and are aware when that time will be. Not one person was like "oh hey maybe I should send my old self a message, perhaps about winning lottery numbers or something else that could make my life better" Instead you have people looking down the stairs at some guy. If you aren't greedy wouldn't you at least be hovered around a TV or gathered with a group of people wondering if something fucked up was about to happen. This concludes one of two things in my books, the flashforwards are not real at all and something larger is at play to completely mind fuck with people. Or, they are real and the future can be changed, which would be disappointing in my books. Probably gonna go read the spoilers for the book now to answer these questions for myself. Never really care about plot holes in shows, but this one really bothers me. And outside of that I am enjoying the show, but there is either a major flaw in logic and time theory within the show, or with me. Hopefully it is with me as the show seems to be at least trying something different. Last edited by PapaGeorgio; 10-05-2009 at 10:49 PM. |

I dunno about that.
Its sort of like a time travel deal. The Blackouts Happen, and then 6 months later something happens that allows people currently alives consciousness to travel back to them 6 months before. This creates a new time line where the people know what is going to happen and try to change it. Honestly, this is IMHO very much a sort of rip off of Desmond of Lost and really last season of lost. Remember, The main character said in the pilot that it wasnt like a memory, but rather his consciousness changed to 6 months in the future. |

You're not making sense to me. The future self cant be like " oh yah its that time now, i'm gunna tell him lottery numbers ". The only way the future self is possible is if the present self see's it. The present self didnt even know he would see his future, so how could his future warn the present ? |

They discuss te possibility of the future self telling the past self things about the future in the book. I can't remember the exact logic behind the explanation but it's there... I think.

Nah, But the show is nothing like the book, so I think you can toss it out the window...this is basically strip a name/concept and make it our own version of Lost. |

Watched most of an episode (UK) last night with some old Nazi dude in. It was a good stand alone episode and now I want to watch the ones I've missed. Looks good but if it does end up like Lost, like somebody said earlier, I'd lose interest.

You've only missed 2 episodes, that was episode 3.
It seems ok so far but I'll just be interested to see how long they drag out the concept. |

Seems ok, if that 'I have a murder to thank for being here' is related to that customs/airport clerk and that FBI cop who has been told he will be dead, I'll probably be a little disappointed.

Also the major foreshadowing of the female agent being a lesbo is somewhat annoying. |

ya he went to see his wife and she was telling him he's just building it up in his head, the next episode he asked for the body to be dug up... signed the papers to exume it...
Was there really an Oceanic Airlines poster in the show!? I never noticed that... It seems like lost only they already have a story arch with an end to it...is the book a stand alone? If they do a second season it would be cool if it's just a whole new story(with new people) who went threw the first blackout/flash foward and there is a second one, or even a prequale |

I don't think a new timeline is created with everyone trying to change the future they saw...
See I'm pretty sure no matter what they try to do to change the outcome that they saw, that outcome will happen (likely as a result of the things they did to try and not make it happen) but that one guy had the bong and Harlod from Harold and Kummer realized that might be his chance to see if you can change the future, i'm pretty sure he's going to try bust him to change the future and whatever happens it's going to some how backfire and be the reason the guy gets the airport job.... so basicly all the stuff they try to do to make the stuff not happen. is exacly what is supposed to happen in the lead up to said event.... |

Another good episode last night here in the UK. Jack Davenport and a glimpse of that hobbit that was in Lost setting more things up. Still haven't seen the first two episodes, was there many action scenes like that of the bus going into the lake when everybody had their flash forward? Intense. This series is turning out to be unmissable for me. Good stuff.

yah that bus scene was awesome and Ned looked like Ben sort of. Was that a Bjork song playing during that scene? The song was perfect.

It was Bjork.
Anyways, I'm finding the series rather "blah" right now. I don't care about any of the characters, and it just feels like Lost or Invasion, when the story would only edge a little forward every episode, and it gives you something at the end of the epi that is supposed to make you carry on watching. |

I know what you mean, the progress is so slow you can just get the dvd's , watch all the recaps and go to the last 2 episodes right away and know whats going on... 24 does this, and I notice they advertise the last episode or two of the season more than others and some people just watch the last 2... I know my girlfriends parents and such will watch it, something about Fox telling you it's "a must watch television event".

They're taking this too slowly. Go to Somalia already god dammit.
At least the most recent episode is a sign that not everything is set in stone for the future. Which is progress, I guess. |

Best show in a while? This show is terrible. If it werent for the concept I would have written this off long ago. The acting on this is atrocious. The last episode was one of the worst hours of television ive watched in a long time.

I appreciate character development but it is going a bit slow. Last episode didn't even seem to have that cliff hanger that makes you want to watch the next one that previous episodes did either.

Back from a mid season break and I honestly can't remember for the life of me where I left off and to be honest am not really as interested in it as I was originally. Missed the first half hour as well which didn't help. Generally, not a fan of mid season breaks.

4th if you count the 2 hour premire as 2 episodes. Loving this show though. The whole D. Gibbons knowing Dimitri would see that tape was mind boggling. This will most definately be my new show once Lost ends.
