Phillies took Cliff Lee off of the trading block with the main reason being nobody was willing to give enough for him. Rangers wanted him but not at the price Philly wanted.
Dodgers lost out on Dempster because they were unwilling to include Allen Webster. The reason Dempster suddenly included the Yankees was from the loss of his preferred team with the Dodgers but made the announcement too late for the Cubs to work out something in time. Red Sox traded Matt Albers and Scott Podsednik to the D'Backs in return for Craig Breslow. |

I should have faith, they played well against the Nats and beat Strasburg when I saw them a couple weeks ago until some dude came out of the bullpen and gave me Bill Swift flashbacks and I think they beat Gio the next night as well. If anything the Nats should give me hope what with how awful they were last season.

Chad Qualls on the Pirates makes me happy. That guy is just beyond awful.
Broxton on the Reds makes me happy too, although they gave up way too much to get him. Hopefully they have plans to sign him long term. |

Amazed that another team gave up anything for Qualls. He was going to be DFA for Joba today or tomorrow anyway.
McGehee's .230/.300 line will fit right in with the Yankees 5 other platoon guys. |

Villanueva isn't Mike Olt, but he was close. He was just stuck, behind him. Grades out as a B- 3b prospect, which is pretty nice.
I dont know anything about the other guys in, the deal. But I'm happy. Cubs got the nice 3b prospect they wanted. |

Love the Flyin' Hawaiian acquisition. Our lineup has gone from a AAA lineup to pretty damn solid. Disappointed we couldn't get another pitcher, but oh well, still very solid moves.

Apparently the Tigers inquired about getting Hairston and the Mets told them they wanted one of the Tigers' top 5 prospects. Hairston absolutely murders lefties and seems to be good in the clubhouse, but god damn.
The Mets are 10 losses back in the Wild Card. The Pirates and Braves are both on pace for 92 wins and figure to finish somewhere in that range. Mets would have to go 42-17 the rest of the way to get there. Just not gonna happen. I know they want to bring Hairston back for 2013. But shit. Get what you can for him and try your luck at signing him in the offseason. I thought they would have learned their lesson from last year. |

Red Sox looking a bit foolish not trading Beckett even if they would barely get anything back considering he was close to having another horrible game today and now out with a serious injury. Also ruins the current plans with the rotation with Morales replacing Cook.

Damn. Nova went off the rails fast tonight.
Michael Kay brought up the Charlie Sheen story I think the 3rd or 4th time this season. |

Yet they are in first place. Teams always have very bad stretches. I wouldn't call the Yankees the "Worst" anything unless they were in like 3rd or 4th place. They are under a really tight stretch yes. But, it would take a serious implosion for them not to make at least the first round of the playoffs.

AJ Burnett is trying single handily to make us Pirate fans forget how terrible our Trade Deadline was today. No hitter through 7...

Sorry Screech. You guys had your few years, but you're rebuilding, or at least should be. At least your team is nowhere near as stupid as the Marlins management is. I swear they're trying to intentionally be horrible.

Marlins did get some good guys in return for their fire sale. Jacob Turner and Zach Cox should be mainstays for them next year.

The Mets nearly swapped Jason Bay for Heath Bell at the deadline.
Pretty glad they didn't. Bell is under contract for a year longer than Bay so it'd give them less financial flexibility going forward. Bay will be released before next year starts though. No doubt about it. I kept holding out hope that MAYBE he'd figure it out, but he just simply doesn't have talent anymore. |
