Das Racist - Relax
Listening for the first time right now. It's pretty good. Feel like they could definitely "blow up" from this. Dunno if anyone will ever take them seriously though. Dunno if they're supposed to be taken seriously.
Will have more on this after listening a couple times... |

excited for Nehru Jackets (Heems solo mixtape)
I keep listening to this but then doing other stuff so not listening to the lyrics too much. Which is what I need to do because so much of what Das Racist is is the lyrics and ridiculous references. Dunno. The mix tapes legit jumped out and grabbed me and were like LISTEN TO THIS. This isn't. Feel like you couldn't even ignore the lyrics in the mix tapes. Here they're more muted and there's way more of an emphasis on production. Way more of a passive listen. I think the production has vastly improved, unquestionably, though that's to be expected on a full length. I think the beats and whatnot are enough to garner some mainstream attention but the lyrical content might just alienate a lot of people. I guess Odd Future is catching on big time though, so maybe people are becoming more open to innovation in rap. Shock-value scatological rape seems to have broader appeal than DR's whole top-tier liberal arts college educated minority vibe though. They joke around enough to not take themselves seriously but a lot of people are gonna just seem them as douchy hipsters from NYC/Wesleyan University. |

Yeah I'm "with you all the way" on that one. Seems like they exhausted all of their punchlines on Sit Down Man.
I still like it tho, but haven't given it a thorough listen. |

Heems is genuinely a cool dude from what I have seen. He responds to all his fans tweets and RTs them and shit. He was mad chill when I met him too, more so than most musicians I have met. Didn't make it seem like I was annoying him that I was talking to him and took a few minutes to talk about his new album and shit too.

Can't help but feel kinda disappointed. I don't think theres a single verse on there that tops what they did on Sit Down Man.

Relax - Best song on the album maybe, smart to open with it. Beat's not annoying, lyrics are good.
Michael Jackson - Don't like it. Heems has a different "style" though which kinda works. Brand New Dance - I don't get it Middle of the Cake - Good one. Good hook, good beat, all of it. Girl - Another one that makes me go except for Heems's part. Shut Up, Man - I lied, this is the best on here. Damn. Happy Rappy - Not bad, might need to listen to it a few times. Booty in the Air - Coochie Dip City pt II? Don't like it. Power - Best song on here except for whoever the fuck Danny Brown is, his shit makes no sense and ruins the song. Love Heems's part, again. Punjabi Song - Not bad, beat gives me a headache. Selena - Not bad, not my favorite. Beat gives me a headache. Rainbow in the Dark - what? The Trick - Celebration - No Dap? Is he just doing the beats? |

Yeah pretty sure he does some production too, but DR only produced a few tracks on the album.

Shut Up, Man is my favorite too
They were pretty ill last night. Feel like they're "taking this all more seriously" now. I mean they were still fucking around and whatnot but definitely was a more "focused" performance. |
