Bee Lady and Master Blaster dude are already looking way better than any of the new characters from the PS2 era.

Outside of Blind Kenshi. He's still awesome.

Sub-zero’s finisher has him breaking his oppennet’s spine with his bare hand, before splitting him in half..SICK!
Pretty exciting stuff! Ed Boon also added that there are many new characres as well as old favorites in the game roster. The select screen shows 22 characters in total. we are not sure, however, if that is the final number of fighters.

Some new details from a GameInformer interview:

Online multiplayer will have at least one new mode which will be persistent.

"As far as the gameplay is concerned, I think the main thing is the online component," Boon told us. "We're going to be introducing this online metagame that everyone participates in. It's an online experience that is persistent. Everyone is going to be playing it, and there are benefits. It's definitely something that's going to play a major role in people's experience playing Mortal Kombat."
Current plan is for the roster to have more new fighters than the original MK had and they are also fully aware of balancing issues popping up.

Raiden revealed as the next character with the biggest change being the ability to pick from 3 different forms. Each form has its own set of lightning and special attacks.

Displacer style is all about leveraging Raiden's teleportation abilities. He can appear on either side of his opponent, allowing him to get out of bad situations, and set up some tricky mixups.

Storm Lord Raiden, according to Boon, the most unique version of Raiden. He can toss out little lightning bombs, and once two have been set, they form a stream of lighting between them, controlling large portions of space at a time. This makes him ideal for players who enjoy more of a zoning/keep away playstyle.

The third variation, tentatively being called Thunder God Raiden, is all about big damage. He doesn't have the utility of the other two, but looks to make up for it with a variety of powerful ways to finish combos.
In terms of story, won't be as central to the overall plot like he was in MK 9.

Ed Boon states MK X is bringing back an old "ality" to go along with the usual fatalities.

“For those who are familiar with Mortal Kombat, we first had the Fatality and we added a Babality. We had the Friendship moves, Brutality moves and all of these crazy things over the years,” Boon told IGN. “We are going to be reinstating an 'Ality' from a previous game into Mortal Kombat X. And I can't wait to be able to talk about it but at the moment I can't.”
In terms of story mode, bulk of the game takes place 25 years after MK 9 but jumps back and forth several times within.

“It's a direct continuation, but the timespan it crosses is 25 years in length,” Boon said. “There are periods that are directly after MK9, then there are periods that are five, ten, 15 and 20 years out. A lot of the events take place 25 years after where we see older versions of the characters, like Cassie Cage and all that. But it does jump around in time; it's not a linear thing.”
Also stressed to not expect a lot of old characters to return since the main focus is towards the new characters for the game.

And yeah, they're be timed exclusives at first. They have tournies to consider. I imagine things will change come EVO season. Unless they want a Soul Calibur 2 case of banned characters.

I don't care that much for the tourny scene, but I imagine this will be the case.

Shinnok is really the only returning villain that makes sense, but they hinted at that during the end scene of the last installment, so it wouldn't really be a shock.

I'm still kind of worried about the three modes for each character though. MK is notorious for balancing issues and I feel like they are putting needless strain on themselves to make each mode viable.

Visually it looks great, and the story is always top notch as far as fighting games go. I'm pretty pumped for it either way.

NetheRealm are, admittingly, the fastest at identifying a problem and patching. I think balance won't be that much of an issue.

According to Destructoid's hands-on preview at Pax Prime, zoning/projectile attacks have been toned down compared to past Mortal Kombat games. Same for the dashing system which is meant to tone down on spamming.

A regulated kind of 'stamina' for basic movement seems kind of heavy handed. I totally get the zoning thing, though.

Game is getting released on April 14th while Goro will be a pre-order exclusive and likely released as regular DLC some time after launch.
