Yeah, and nobody who was killed off in the Deadly Alliance canon was brought back for Deception, save zombiefied Liu Kang.

How can you say they learned from it when the only games we have had since were essentially Trilogy 2 and a reboot?

Because since then; they learned from it. In Armageddon damn near everybody died and nobody batted an eye when MK9 came back with all those dead people.

The fact that everyone died and Shao Kahn was the last man standing was integral to the plot of MK9.

And it didn't impact the roster. My entire point is how roster supersedes plot in a fighting game.
Or do you actually want player options shuffled every game because of deaths? |

The characters who came back for the reboot did so because they were in the first 3 Mortal Kombat games. None of the characters from the PS2 era returned outside of Kenshi who was DLC, because it wouldn't have made sense for the story.

Honestly, when it comes to Mortal Kombat, as long as Scorpion and Sub-Zero are in it, pretty much everybody is happy.
The only time there was ever any real backlash for roster omissions was MK 3 when those two weren't in it. No one gave a shit when Johnny Cage died. They cared even less when Liu Kang died, and he was the main protagonist. I'm not saying character popularity doesn't play a role, but story plays a much bigger role in roster decisions in MK than in any other fighting game. |

They were shocked, but most people weren't really upset. I'm sure there were some, but his exclusion didn't bother a lot of people.

But....the fact that EVERYONE died was a huge part of the entire MK9 plot..I mean a really big part they didn't say "well everyone died in the last one lets just bring em all back for this one"

You think the roster was informed by the time travel plot rather than the other way around? I would think they first wanted as many faves in as possible and then cooked up a plot to explain it.

And I just wanna remind again; it's you guys coming in bewildered that certain characters are alive or in a certain state. The roster reveals line up with how I think they're approaching the game while if they were applying what you guys think is important there would be way less returning cast.

Im growing more and more confident you dont actually play the series amd if you do you dont pay attention to anything other than the gameplay. Which if thats the case im sorry, cause mk kinda sucks with out the story. |

What a disparaging thing to say about a fighting game. And yeah, when I play I'm concerned with gameplay mechanics. Fancy that.

Mortal Kombat doesn't suck.
Well, a couple of them do. It's just not as good as other big fighting games. But it's never really been about that. MK is the guilty pleasure fighting game. It's style over substance, but the style is fucking awesome. No one completely disregards gameplay when deciding what they like, but lots of people rate other stuff like story and characters higher than other people (like you, kalyx) might. Nothing wrong with that. We all enjoy videogames in different ways. Some fighting games aren't designed to be the next main event of EVO. Even Boon said himself before MK9 came out, that he wasn't making it to compete with other popular games as a competitive fighter. Only reason it did end up in EVO is because it was way more successful than I think anyone anticipated. |

Yeah. May have to splurge and grab one of those statue sets. Still got my Mortal Kombat game/book ends from the version on the last generation. Look pretty sharp.

Netherrealm revealed some new details regarding to how factions and faction wars work in the game.
5 factions available to chose from with weekly overall challenges done to determine which faction won the week. Points can be earned from online matches against other factions, playing the game's challenge tower mode, and Story Mode. Adding a small twist is an invasion mode that requires factions to unite together to beat a faction. Each challenge and tower was also teased to have multiple tasks that change at almost an hourly rate. http://www.screwattack.com/video/Net...bat-X-12863247 |

Sad, Jade isn't going to be in this game. I atleast hope there is a character who plays like her since she is usually my online fighter.

Jizz again because that 90% chance I mentioned just became 99.9% as Predator (AND ONE OF THE COMMANDOS FROM THE FIRST MOVIE) are all but confirmed to be in a Summer DLC pack.
Also Todd McFarlene recently gave his blessing for Spawn to appear in MKX if NR chooses. |

According to the game's producer, no demo will be released for the game since all of the studio's resources and focus is towards finishing the game's development.
Also stated a new character trailer will be arriving soon and the Season Pass covers 4 DLC characters and 5 skin packs. Quote:

Rumor mill has picked up big time for this game as Predator and Spawn are being thrown around as being included in this game.
Intersting. The Freddy Kruger character from the last game actually played pretty good. So I'm cool with this. http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/...n-to-use-spawn http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/...ortal-kombat-x |

I haven't followed Mortal Kombat too much over the past 2-3 years, but one of my annoyances is that MK kept creating new lame #1 hero's to replace the deceased Liu Kang. Shujinko and Tagen never really caught on, and so MK kind of went the 'safe' route with Raiden as the #1 protagonist (with Sonya, Johnny Cage, and Jax as Raiden's entourage basically).
Even on the heel side of things, I just feel like creating Onaga and even Quan Chi was almost redundant. Shao Khan is the toughest 'bad guy,' and Shang Tsung is your most evil 'bad guy.' Quan Chi gives head to one of the elder gods, and that's pretty much his only use. Onaga is an awesome character, but what purpose does he have since Shao Khan is still the ultimate ruler of Outworld? Why not have Onaga turn face and align with Earth Realm in facing a common enemy? Onaga vs. Goro and/or Kintara would be interesting. Kintara - that's another redundant creation that basically just takes away the from the uniqueness of Goro. |
