A call to the dissertation of Beavis and Butthead Do America...
In Beavis and Butthead Do America, do you believe that the auteur wished to use the animation to somehow reflect the predominant views of postmodernist America or did he use the exaggerated state of the medium to propogate his own ideas about the state of the common masses?

I believe he wanted to create a movie version of Beavis and Butthead. If he accomplished the above, then he is a genius.

I highly doubt that Mike Judge would succumb to the pressures of public criticism and alter his artistic vision. Beavis and Butt-head Do America is obviously his views of the country at the time put into animation. By incorporating his two most popular characters into this vision, he was able to exploit the faults in the country's intelligence and security for laughs, which in turn produced tremendous ticket sales [and later DVD sales]. Without the comedy aspect of the movie, Judge's views would probably laughed at, not laughed with. This proves that Beavis and Butt-head are indirectly [and Judge makes them seem unintentionally] geniuses whose goal is to show the public how to live the true American dream.
In short, the second one. |
