There Will Be Blood
Just saw this yesterday, really freakin good movie.
Newest movie from Paul Thomas Anderson, I LOVE HIM. He directed/wrote Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, etc. Daniel Day Lewis is freaking incredible in this movie. Like amazing, I don't know. Definitely see him winning the Oscar for this one. It's like 3 hours long apparently but it didn't feel like it at all. I was really immersed throughout the entire movie. It's loosely based on the novel "Oil!" by Upton Sinclair. |

Damn you. I'm trying to see this also. But I can't find a theatre in my area playing it.

I saw the preview when I saw No Country For Old Men, and at first I was like "WTF?" and then the story seemed more clear by the end of the trailer.
It looks interesting and I wouldn't mind giving it a look. Also, I didn't know it was out already, I thought it would have a wide release. |

I think it is only playing in limited release right now, like last week it was only playing around here in New York City, but I saw it the other night in my neck of the woods.

Finally got around to my area and saw it after work. Awesome. Daniel-Day Lewis was awesome in that movie. So was that kid whose parents are shut out from the world.

Almost every performance DDL has ever made has been astoundingly good. Heard nothing but good about this movie too

I hate to pull a KingofOldSchool and be an asshole, but:
I didn't really like it. The movie was two and a half hours long and it felt as if nothing had happened throughout that whole time. There really wasn't any character development, and I just felt that either the screenplay was lackluster or the film was poorly edited. It kinda felt like Paul Thomas Anderson was trying too hard to make a Citizen Kane. What is the deal with movies having these half-assed endings these days? It doesn't seem to matter, as people just seem to eat it up and label it as wonderul no matter what. |

On a side note, they filmed this movie in Alpine, Texas, where some of my relatives live, and my aunt, a massage therapist, got to massage Daniel Day Lewis's kids.

I loved it though. Something about it, I dont' know what. Every part of the movie, I enjoyed. Like I wanted to see what would happen next in every scene. The acting was amazing. Daniel Day Lewis's character was very well developed I thought. I cared about his character a LOT, that is what made the movie so good for me I think. I think his performance had a lot to do with that. And the ending... I don't know... it was wrapped up. Just like No Country for Old Men. It was finished. I wouldn't call them half assed endings. I don't like when movies suck dick throughout and are just leading up to a huge ending. This movie was good throughout and everything that needed to be resolved was resolved earlier. They didn't wait til the end. |

I saw it and it was really good, but probably could've done with being a half hour shorter as some of the sub plots probably could've been cut.

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed. DDL was fantastic, and Paul Dano gave a really good performance, too, but... nothing really happened. It's sort of the same problem I have with Citizen Kane. The performances are great, it's shot incredibly well, but... what was the plot? Sociopath gets rich, soul decays, fights a priest, bad things happen...
That said, the performances WERE great, and it WAS shot very well. I was just expecting more from the story, I guess. Of the three Best Picture noms I've seen (along with No Country and Juno), it ranks third for me at this point. |

Daniel Day Lewis could probably read the phone book and still be nominated for an Oscar. If he doesn't win the Academy Award for this, then I'll boycott the Oscars forever.

It's because you're a coffin dodger, Wunder-Nunder. Don't be all down, it's just a sad reality of life... Except for the eternally young like myself.
