TOP 5 FBB PICK-UPS WEEK OF 6/2

http://www.pyroandballyhoo.com/top-5...k-ups-week-62/

By far, this was the most difficult week in attempting to pluck 5 players to help improve your FBB team. As we get into summer, the list becomes thinner by the second, as by now the numbers have more, or less, evened out, and the projections are much easier to predict. Things were so bad this week, that this list of five, almost became four, as I researched for nearly ONE HOUR just to find that last player that might give you the competitive edge you’re looking for this week.

TOMMY MEDICA–IB/OF–SAN DIEGO PADRES

MedicaIn an effort to add some punch to their lineup, the Padres recently called up 26 year-old San Jose native, Tony Medica, who had an audition with the club earlier this year–-to very little fanfare. However, having his taste of the bigs back in April might have been just what Tommy needed to realize that he wanted to make the Padres his PERMANENT home. Over his last 7 games back up, Medica is 9 for 18 with 2 taters and 5 Runs Batted In. And, in only his third game back on Wednesday, the 200-pound right hitting 1B/OF was only a single away from hitting for the cycle. Who knows–-may be able to catch lightning in a bottle here.

JOSH HARRISON–2B/3B/OF–PITTSBURGH PIRATES

jhWith the Pirate OF not living up to its potential this year (with the exception of Andrew McCutchen), the Bucs needed some pop prior to promoting stud Gregory Polanco, whose waiting in favor of the Super 2 Deadline to pass. Harrison, has been more than consistent in his Pittsburgh stay by hitting 7 for 17 over his last five games, with 1 HR and 3 RBIs. The Cincinnati native is also a contact hitter, striking out only 1 time in 26 plate appearances. If you HIT THE BALL–-it will eventually FIND THE HOLE. With eligibility at three positions, Harrison is one of the few gems left on the waiver wire.

JUSTIN TURNER–1B, 2B. 3B, SS–LOS ANGELES DODGERS

justinWhen you have eligibility at all FOUR infield positions, if you can even put up decent numbers you’re a value to have on the bench, and in filling in for the OFTEN injured Dodger third baseman Juan Uribe, Justin Turner’s numbers have been much more than just mediocre. In his last 17 games, Turner has a line of 3/8/.360, not bad for a guy whose HR high was FOUR over a span of 117 games in 2011 for the New York Mets. With Juan-gone and ALWAYS hurt, Turner could find himself being much more than just a “role” player as the Dodger season progresses.

TOMMY MILONE–SP–OAKLAND ATHLETICS

TMI’ll take any SP for the A’s these days, that line-up can out RAKE!!! But, Tommy Milone isn’t just “any” starting pitcher. The 27 year-old crafty lefty, may just be hitting his stride in the bigs as he has given up only 6 earned runs over his last five starts. Milone also has a 3 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio which I’ll take with any SP–any day of the week! With the Yankess up next for Tommy, his 1.32 lifetime ERA against them, might be worth a flier.

CHRIS YOUNG–SP–SEATTLE MARINERS

Chris-Young-MarinersI’ve always been a fan of Chris Young–-ALWAYS! At 6′ 10″, 253 lbs., WHAT’S NOT TO LIKE. Any pitcher that big is going to be imposing to hitters–-period. And, where Young may have been more dominant in his hey day, he has now learned to use finesse in order to get hitters out. Outside of a couple of bad outings on the road against Minnesota and Texas, Young has been stellar when you look at his overall stats. I’ll take the 5-2 mark with a 3.07 ERA, but I’ll also we careful with the 30Ks in 63.1 innings pitched, and the 25 walks during that same time. Not a good ratio, no, but not much else is there to choose from. By the way, if you do decide to click on Chris Young, also know that you’ll have about a month until he’s out for the year with injury.
