For me this one isnt even close.
Vader. In a landslide. A LANDSLIDE. Vaders run in Japan is legend and drew big money. His matches were just as good as anyones matches anywhere in the world at any period. If you like big bruisers Vader is top 3-5 ever. Vader and Bruiser Brody are two guys that I BELIEVED. Vader all day long. |

Loved Vader's runs in Japan and WCW, but loved Bret Hart's WWF run so much more. Bret for me easily. The only one I'd probably vote for over Bret is Kurt Angle, and since that train has been derailed I don't know think there's anyone else I could pick over Bret.

Got to go Vader. He's the first wrestler I ever remember watching. Never been a Bret Hart fan.

Vader was a bigger draw in theory AND in actuality. So, him.
He was also the first heel I remember genuinely being worried about as a kid. Loved Sting and assumed he would just get his ass whipped if he ran across Vader. Not a lot of heels had that kind of credibility back then. |

I honestly believed that Vader would / could kill any opponent in the ring but the question is "Better Wrestler" and that is Bret Hart.

Have to stick with Bret, but Vader vs Stan Hansen is pretty much the greatest thing of all time

If we were saying Japan Vader vs Bret Hart, hands down I would vote Vader all day. His work in WCW and WWE was mediocre at best. Great promo worker and had a badass look but just spent too much jumbled up in at best mid card feuds and storylines to take him serious as a contender to the heavyweight championship. Keep in mind thats based on the way they booked him and made him look, not the wrestler or his character. That's all to do with writers and management. Bret gets the nod on this one simply better overall wrestler and more in the mainstream during the peak of their careers.

Voted for Bret mainly because I seen a lot more of his work than Vader's and Vader's career from his WWE run and onward being pretty poor overall.
Of the little I've seen of Vader's pre-WWE stuff which was great, don't have a strong enough connection like with the Steamboat-Booker debate to claim he was the better overall wrestler. Would probably still lean towards Bret if it was the case. |

Vader his pre WWF days are greatness he came across like he was just going to kill people who got in the ring with him.

Vader was a grwat wrestler, but I have to say that Bret Hart was simply better in every category except perhaps in a shoot fight. Bret had more charisma better promos and was more versatile and could tell more interesting stories in the ring.
Bret all the way to the bank baby. |

Bret never bragged about being a great shoot fighter. So it's tough to say. Vader just happened to get beaten up by old Paul Orndorff, but he was a hard case.

Bret for me. Vader was very good, but floundered in the big pond of WWE, where Bret achieved world-wide success.
Vader could have (and likely should have) been better the bigger star as he had it all, but Bret gets my vote.... |

It's time! It's time! It's Vader time!
He didn't do himself favors in the WWF, but neither did major politicians in the company, and theoretically he should have won the 1996 King of the Ring and been treated like the Brock Lesnar of that era. While he may not have been a big draw in WCW, those were dire times. I mean, Bret wasn't a big draw in the WWF either. Vader made some real money in Japan. He should have been Austin's greatest nemesis. |

The WWF was the smallest pond around durinf Brets time there. Dont let history be dictated to you just because Vince killed all his competition later. The biggest market was japan at the time.

Vince had no fucking clue with Vader. Vader's lack of success in WWF had more to do with idiot Vince not knowing how to book what was right in front of him than it did with Vader "floundering". You just need to see a couple of his standout performances in the fed to understand that.

Bret.
Never really cared about Vader to be honest, other than when I was a mark and thought wrestling was real. |

The Austin and Owen feuds alone solidify Bret over Vader for me, quite easily. Can't even remember one Vader match that I loved, but I was mostly a WWF guy.

One of the WWE myths I had to shed (and did so surprisingly late). Vince gets to play revisionist and it's amazing how many modern fans lap it up.

If you could use nanobots to heal Vader and put him against Brock Lesnar in 2017, you'd have a bigger gate than anything you'd get with Bret Hart.
