If The Undertaker or Kane left the WWE
Would these men be able to work in a promotion like TNA? I mean, I doubt either guy is going to ever be on bad terms with the WWE, but let's just talk about the hypothethical situation that one of them left the WWE and wanted to find work elsewhere.
Both are really solid workers for men their size, particularly The Undertaker, who is doing the best in-ring work of his career right now. However, they are also two men who have been defined by their gimmicks. Is the attraction of these men entirely within their gimmicks? Would The Undertaker working a more plain clothes gimmick in TNA, with a stupid name, be accepted by those outside the iMPACT! Zone as someone worth watching? Pfft |

The answer would be a resounding no for both characters. For one, each wrestler tried to get over with different gimmicks. Both Wrestlers were mediocre at best. The whole mystical 'Deadman and brother of Deadman' gimmic fit these two behemoths.
But these two guys are the epitome of company WWE guys. FFS, Kane is an agent, and Taker is the damn Den Mother. I know you are just hypothesizing, but how often do you get to call The Underrrrrrrrrrrtakerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr a den mother? huh? yeah. |

not a chance.... never would happen...... Taker would never work for anyone else but Vince, and the same goes for Kane...... although there is more of a chance of Kane going to TNA than Taker

'Takers American Badass gimmick seemed to work okay at the time. Though dunno if it would work in TNA.
The main problem is that WWE wouldn't let them be Undertaker and Kane outside of WWE, and I doubt people would care about seeing Mark Calloway and Glen Jacobs. |

If WWE ever let Taker go, he'd probably retire. I don't think he's the kind of guy who will be coming back much. Once he's done, he's done, whether it's forced or otherwise. But it obviously isn't going to happen, he's one of the highest on the totem pole and it would be equivalent of firing Triple H.
As for Kane, I could see him going to TNA under Glen Jacobs, but I think he'd retire as well. |

Here what they could do, they could call the undertaker Mark the Mortician and stil have all the funeral stuff. And Kane could be renamed as KONE and he can wear a traffic cone on his head. That wouldn't be shitty at all!

The only way it could work would be if Undertaker went back to the American Badass gimmick and they just called him Taker.

Anyone would be accepted outside the iMPACT Zone in a plain clothes gimmick with a stupid name.
Seriously though I couldn't see either of them getting nearly as over without their current gimmicks. Granted people would see either of them and probably cheer because of who they are and what they used to be, but a totally different gimmick for either man outside of WWE? I just can't see it working. |

Yes, but I don't see it happening. Honestly, both guys have been company men for years. Seems unlikely they'd hop. Ever. But Taker, especially, would get over simply for being a legend. Kane? Probably nto as much. He's a hard worker and dedicated type, but that doesn't transfer into "over" outside his gimmick. To some extent, almost certainly, but the real question is how much.

Kane's a bit difference since he hasn't really changed gimmicks since he debuted as Kane. He could still be a monster, but by any other name it wouldn't work. |

I don't think Kane or Undertaker could have worked in WCW ten years ago either. Their characters were what made up the WWF atmosphere at the time, and I don't think that could have transferred over. Some wrestlers just aren't compatible outside of their niche. The only WWF guys who I think could have fit into a WCW environment at the time would be Shawn Michaels and Owen Hart, or someone like Taka Michinoku. It was easier for WCW guys to cross over to the WWF because there was more variety to what they could do and express.
That really isn't as relevent anymore because TNA is a third rate company. There isn't that larger than life feel when wrestlers switch brands anymore. |

Few things: 1) Wasn't Goldust's character quite dissimilar to what he played in the WWE? I did not watch WCW. 2) Undertaker and Kane could EASILY get gimmicks that are similar in TNA....even if it's with different names, and different finishing moves. Look at the Dudley's for instance (Deadly's). 3) Undertaker and Kane have both shown an ability to re-invent themselves in the WWE...and have demonstrated an ability to succeed if pushed correctly...despite the variances in their respective gimmicks. I expect that they would be no different in other promotions. Why should you expect otherwise? You are not thinking outside the box. |

They may be similar in the same way Tuxedos cookies are similar to Oreos, but that doesn't change the fact that Tuxedos are awful.
I don't think anyone would even care for Undertaker or Kane if they were allowed to use those characters in TNA. TNA is a joke. It is full of WWE rejects and no name wrestlers that all wrestle in a goofy looking ring. Why would anyone want to see these guys as Mark Calloway or Glen Jacobs in some busch league wrestling promotion? |

-I think people would continue to pop decently for Undertaker and Kane if they were allowed to play very similar characters to their WWE selves...with similar names. -I think people would give Taker and Kane mild/lukewarm crowd reactions if they dressed like grubs, and got completely different names and gimmicks....but I think that would apply to just about anyone. This thread is retarded and pointless. Given the author of the thread however, I am not surprised. |

And of course The Undertaker and Kane are WWE lifers, people. Actually, I can see Kane retiring and doing his own thing and just being on good terms with the company, but I can't see the WWE's relationship with either souring. Kane has had his character screwed over by the WWE so many times, and yet he still sticks around and puts his best foot in. It is merely the hypothetical we are suggesting. To phrase the question another way: Are The Undertaker and Kane too bound by their gimmick to draw purely as performers? |

This isn't the industry circa mid 90's and before. I'm sure Vince McMahon and WWE has an iron clad grip on the gimmicks thanks to a ton of contracts and a mile of red tape. On the off chance that either Mark or Glenn get an ass full of the company that made them they'll be done with wrestling permanently. TNA is not a big enough stage for the talent they have now, let alone what would become a watered down version of an icon and a mainstay (The Undertaker and Kane, respectivly).

Also, during that time WCW had the stage to pull it off. With TNA's production values they cannot do justice to The Undertaker or Kane. |
