Know their roles: Where the current WWE Superstars fit
In the butt.
Heh. Okay, so I was watching old Attitude era episodes when I came up with this thread idea. I believe I have made the comparison before, but Daniel Bryan reminds me of Mankind or more accurately where Mankind was back at his peak in the 90s. Bryan is a guy who was extremely fun to watch as a heel, who came into his own as a lovable baby-face. Also, like Mankind he has a special talent that makes him a genuinely believable competitor for the top title in the company. Mankind absorbed inhuman punishment and was really great in hardcore style matches while Bryan is fast and extremely talented in the ring, between the kicks and the submissions he's believable against guys like Orton and Triple H. More importantly he's just a phenomenal underdog. Cena is Hogan with a smark crowd. Not even going to defend that one. Bray Wyatt is sort of a mix between Jake the Snake, Undertaker and Raven. I normally wouldn't do the whole "mix" thing, but I think it's fair to say that Bray pays homage to Roberts on the mic, Raven as cult-leader and Undertaker in the ring. Brock Lesnar, all I can think of is Andre the Giant. He's just this monster that only the top guys can get away with beating. I remember being legitimately surprised that they had Cena beat him in his first match back and that Cena no-sold the beating the next Raw. Though, that's Hogan for you. Big Show is still Big Show, just unmotivated. (Off-topic, I hope when Kane retires he starts using the chokeslam as a finisher) Kofi Kingston is the new John Morrison is the new Jeff Hardy. Ryback is currently Acolyte Bradshaw. Axel is Marc Mero. It's just the vibe I get. Cody is WCW's Chris Jericho. The Shield is DX. The Authority is a scaled back nWo. They don't rise to the level of the Corporation or the Corporate Ministry...yet. Cesaro is early Kurt Angle. Swagger is Ken Shamrock. That's all I got at the moment. Feel free to argue, add or agree with my list. It's time to make TPWW MEAT again! Quote:

Bryan is this generation's Stone Cold Steve Austin with Mankind's whole "Not what a superstar should look like" deal.
John Cena is Hogan, duh. Triple H is Mr. McMahon. CM Punk is this generation's Shawn Michaels. The Shield is shaping up to be this generation's Degeneration X. Those are really the only ones I feel comfortable making comparisons now. Guys like Bray and Cesaro are still in their infancy and can't really be defined yet. There are others I could compare, but I can't think of them now. |

Not really the same thing, but IMO Bray Wyatts character/persona is clearly modeled after the Heath Ledger version of The Joker.
The man just wants to watch the world burn. |

Don't see the Shield as a DX at all, don't remember DX ever really being THE dominant stable in the way the Shield have been since they debuted, more early nWo/Horsemen. Sure there was a better stable in the WWF at the time too, just can't think of it.

Not the Oddities, amazing theme but doesn't swing it that far in their favour though.

I think Swagger was meant to replace Angle and Kofi was meant to replace Shelton Benjamin, but I agree, ppl need to know their role, SHUT their mouths and play the game.

The Shield should have been the J.O.B Squad since they are all 6"0 210 pounds.

The thread title doesn't seem to relate to what's being discussed.

Bray Wyatt plays with some Charles Manson quotes. He's like Charles Manson and Max Cady.
"I am like God, and God like me. I am as large as God, He is as small as I. He cannot above me, nor I beneath Him be. " Max Cady "Look down at me and you see a fool, Look up at me and you see a god, Look straight at me and you see yourself.” "See, prison doesn't begin and end at the gate. Prison is in the mind. It's locked in one world that's dead and dying, or it's open to a world that's free and alive." "These children that come at you with knives, they are your children. You taught them. I didn't teach them. I just tried to help them stand up." Charlie |

In what way? The Rock looked huge in comparison. I think the reason Roman looks "big" to me is because he's standing next to two smaller guys all the time. The same thing happened with Rhino. He was 6'2 and maybe...maybe 280 lbs. Big guy, but not giant by any means, it's just he was usually wrestling guys like Tommy Dreamer and Taz who made him look gigantic. |

I don't feel like we currently have a Steve Austin or a Rock. I think Ziggler could pull off something, I've been really fond of his work on the mic, but best bet is being the early 2000 Jericho for him since he's not a physical specimen.
Austin and Rock had it all, in my opinion. Great characters, amazing mic skills, size, muscle and competent to amazing ring-work and match-psychology. Bryan isn't amazing on the mic, even as a heel he's just "good" to me, and I consider him very competent as a face. Minus the size and muscle though and recognize that pretty much every match he has his amazing and he certainly deserves to be at the top. Triple H and Batista both make good foils for Bryan though. I believe that the Triple H feud up to now has been excellent. It's better than the Triple H VS. Foley feud by far, but ultimately Bryan needs CM Punk to work with. Unless some guys on the current roster really step up (not saying they're not good now), I don't see that many "epic feuds" in Bryan's future. As it stands now I could see him having potentially good-great feuds with Cesaro, Lesnar, Ryback and maybe Ziggler. You know though, wouldn't mind seeing an extended feud between Ziggler and The Miz. Think that could be incredibly entertaining. |

Elaboration: I thought the thread would be about guys knowing their place on the roster I.e. A Zack Ryder won't ever be a top contender and should be content as an unused bit part player.
Instead, it's a thread comparing people based on character traits and wrestling style. Just an observation. |

1999/2000 Fat Big Show is some of the worst stuff he's ever done.
I think your list shows that we have much a roster of much better health and agility than in 2000. However this doesn't help a product that tries to deny it's about wrestling. If they somehow trick people into watching their show with storylines or celebrity appearances, then those people better enjoy wrestling because they're going to be seeing a lot of it. Embrace wrestling and have more promos. The other thing about today's roster is that it's a lot more experienced. A lot of those attitude era guys were in their twenties. |

The subtitle was meant to enforce that as well. Quote:
It's like they were just trying to get back at WCW by making him look lame. I hear he had a bad attitude coming in though, so that might have had something to do with it. |
