Benoit will be HoF in '08 period. He's probably being coded into the Legends roster of SvR08 as we speak.

Lord knows we can never underestimate the WWE and their ability to make stupid decisions. But, I really don't see him going in next year if it's ruled that he offed himself and his family. maybe years down the road after all the dust has settled, and I think then it's only a maybe. I really think this is going to hurt the wrestling business if one of the most popular/well respected wrestlers of the fans is rled as a murderor. I don't think even the WWE will touch that. Then again, controversy does create cash, and they did use Eddie's death.

LOL
I was just thinking about how years ago my cousin and I would debate about whether or not OJ offed his Wife and that other guy and he'd swear up and down he didn't do it. I'd bring up the humorously incriminating evidence and wonder how somebody could look logic in the face and deny it because he had admiration for a public figure. The jokes on me. |

Unless some revelation comes to light clearing Benoit of this, I don't see him going in this year. I think it'll be at least five to ten years down the road before any induction occurs. Anyways, the Hall of Fame is somewhat superficial in regards to this whole situation. Unfortunately, history was written, and that history is that one of the most revered pro-wrestlers ever will have a huge tarnish on his legacy.

Yeah, on second thought, now that it's looking more and more like he did it... probably not going in. I don't know... I'd have to wait and see after this all dies down a little.

Its unfortunate but its his own fault.. i mean he fucking killed his wife.. you have to be fucked up to do that, but then the next day you KILL your son.. instead of maybe, sending him to his grandparents while you kill yourself..

While my instinct is to feel bad for Benoit, I immediately think of his youngest son and his two other children who are still living... then there's the footage of all of them celebrating after Benoit's Wrestlemania XX win... and that's the saddest part.

Or a mental disease. A mental disease untreated can take over a person completely, and it is not implausible that a 22-year pro wrestling veteran could have developed some mental disease...especially after all the tragedies over the past few years.

I don't want to make excuses, but I can't believe that Chris Benoit just decided to kill his family one night.

'k, so I lied and checked again.
And you know what? If he killed his family, under no condition do I condone the act at all. But for those of you wondering how a guy like Benoit could snap like that... well, insanity... mental decay... it's a sinisterly powerful thing. It can cause anyone to be driven to kill. BTW, where does it say his son died on Sunday? Everything I've read has said Daniel and Nancy died before Benoit, but implied they died at around the same time. Haven't read anything that suggests Daniel died on Sunday, rather than Saturday. |

Basically, what I'm saying is that if it turns out Benoit murdered his family, don't suddenly defame his whole life. The act was unforgivable, but I'm convinced (and all evidence and testimony points to) a moment (or a long one) of insanity. And like I've said: one act can ruin your life. And the lives of others.

Cops Suspect Murder-Suicide in Killings of Pro Wrestler Chris Benoit and His Family
Tuesday , June 26, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday, and police said they were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide. Detective Bo Turner told WAGA-TV the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab. The station said investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. The bodies were found in three rooms. • Click here to view video report from MyFoxAtlanta.com. World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning." Lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told The Associated Press the deaths were being investigated as homicides, and that autopsies were to be performed Tuesday. Pope said the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details. • Click here for full coverage on the WWE Web site. The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers. Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion. He also held several tag-team titles during his career. "WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the organization said in a statement on its Web site. Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons." The native of Canada maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling. The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast. "My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend," Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. "Chris was always first-class — warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business." http://www.foxnews.com/printer_frien...286673,00.html Last edited by James Steele; 06-26-2007 at 03:41 AM. |

Not really sure of the point in posting this. People have already linked or alluded to this general AP article.
But as long as they still say "haven't confirmed," there's still a tiny bit of hope left in my heart. |

I read somewhere that in additional to police ruling out gunshot wounds, they also said there were no stabbings. So I guess I find dark humor in Impact's suggestion that it was KNIFE edge chops...
In confusing times of grief, sometimes humor is the only thing we can turn to. |

Holy shit! I'm still up and looking around for more info. And on the ABCnews.com comment page, one person is even blaming Vince for this!
http://abcnews.go.com/US/comments?type=story&id=3315789 Has anyone even considered the fact that Chris Benoit canceled his appearance for a world title match at the pay per view at the last minute for a family emergency, which would shake the foundation of WWE's original plan to name him champion of the world?? This would totally change what Mcmahon's plan for the ppv. Then suddenly he and his family are dead???? One thing you don't do is back out on a billionaire at the last minute. Now we all see the power of money and its power over law enforcement as well as the media. Why are all wrestling chat rooms closed down and why has Mr. Mchahon not made a statement himself? We all truly believe Benoit would never do such a horrendous act. This was the works of a billionaire on a power trip who will go as far to have two people and a little boy murdered just for his publicity acts. Benoit would never do this, but we all know Mr. Mcmahon would in a heartbeat just for another 0 to be added to his bank account. |

I don't get it. Not even Vince would see someone get killed just for money and ratings. Hell, that was most of the reason why he released Angle!
And I don't know if this has been pointed out yet, but I had an eerie thought. Eddie was supposed to win the World Title the day he passed, and now it seems Benoit was going to win the ECW title on his passing. Odd coincidence. |

People need to get off of this "Vince is evil" shit. Shrewd business man who will do some wacky things for the sake of a wrestling-entertainment show? Yeah. Some gigantic criminal who kills kids and families? Uh.. no. Anyone who even think McMahon is remotely responsible for this needs a serious wake-up call. It's such a ridiculous thought it boggles my mind. While we're theorizing, maybe it was The Undertaker... that's a possibility. He takes souls, right? |

No, I really don't think he could. For one, he's not really a billionaire. Second, he's not THAT rich. Killing three people in cold blood? No way.
What could he have possibly had to gain? A one-night spike in ratings? A marginal one at that. You think a three-hour show full of past clips did a huge number? You think Benoit's death will spike ratings long-term? It's such a ridiculous scenario I'm not even going to discuss it further. |
