Day 9 was good, though a slight step back from the utter greatness of the prior two days. Davey Boy and Honma seemed to have problems clicking at points. Goto and Okada have their formula down pat, and it always works. Surprised Okada got the win.

Unfortunately I think he'll win on the last night against Shelton, and people might not care that much about that win.
The Boma Ye can sometimes look awesome....other times not so much. |

Man, there are a lot of ways to go with the top guys.
I can see a CHAOS finals with Nakamura vs. Okada, then maybe Tanahashi/Shibata vs. AJ. Last edited by Innovator; 08-06-2014 at 12:50 PM. |

I can't see AJ winning it, would be counter intuitive to have the heel champion win and not set up a match for the Tokyo Dome

So it basically comes down to Tanahashi and Nakamura (for the love of God please not Fale) in Block A then Okada and AJ in Block B.
I think Nakamura/Okada might be too big of a match for the Finals and not at the Tokyo Dome, so I can see Tanahashi vs. Okada in the Finals and AJ/Nakamura for 3rd place. |

Shibata still has a tiny, tiny chance, but unlikely. Guessing they made the final four clear this year to try and sell tickets to the Dome as opposed to the anybody can win aspect of last years. Prefer this years by far booking wise.
At the start of the tournament I figured Nakamura/AJ final, with Nakamura pinning AJ, Okada winning the belt back by year's end, and the battle of Chaos at WrestleKingdom. Am starting to question that, because Tanahashi is still the biggest star and draw, and him winning is just as feasible as anything else (Tanahashi Vs. Styles at WK for the title is quite appetising). Ishii looked severely hampered in the match with Shibata, understandably so. Staying away from all results until I see the show from this point. Exciting stuff. |

G1 Climax – Final: Kazuchika Okada beat Shinsuke Nakamura (23:18) with the Rainmaker. * The golden boy of New Japan, Kazuchika Okada, won his second G1 Climax in three years today before the biggest crowd to ever attend a G1 Climax final, 18,000 fans turned up at the Seibu Dome to watch the ‘forbidden’ confrontation between CHAOS top two Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada in the G1 Climax final. It was an epic match that showed the world class standard of New Japan and saw Okada have to used an unprecedented three Rainmakers to finish off Shinsuke. Okada told AJ Styles he’s “next” but plans to wait until the 1/4/15 Tokyo Dome show (announced today) to cash in his title shot for AJ’s IWGP Heavyweight Title. He (and Gedo) also praised Shinsuke for a good fight and suggested they do it again in future. * Hiroshi Tanahashi showed he is still a major player in the G1 3rd place match, pinning IWGP Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles. AJ lost to Okada, Naito and Tanahashi in the tournament to show he isn’t unbeatable, but remains champion. * New Japan signed a formal agreement to work with Jeff Jarrett’s new GFW promotion during the show. Then later on Jarrett revealed himself as a Bullet Club member after hitting Tanahashi with a guitar. Scott D’Amore also joined the Bullet Club, which continues to expand. |

I think I'm going to watch that finals match between Nakamura and Okada. Do you think Styles vs. Okada will be the Wrestle Kingdom main event, or will Tanahashi/Nakamura/Naito win the title before then?

Nakamura vs. Okada with the title on the line seems like a perfectly fine premise. Bullet Club being challenged by Tanahashi and allies also makes sense. But do you want to run so many rematches your biggest show of the year?

I hate the Bullet Club anyway, they stopped being a good act when AJ came in (not AJ's fault, but the unit just took a drastic turn for the worse with all the lame crotch chopping and doing 90s catchphrases like backyard geeks), so the Jarrett and D'Amore additions don't do any more to hurt things.
I was PISSED watching the show last night that Nakamura lost, but what a thrill ride of a match, just excellent stuff near the end. Honma should have gotten at least ONE victory. I do love that his intro video is him missing the top rope headbutt again and again. Superb tournament all around. |
