Too bad no Cards vs Red Sox games set for this season (unless its the World Series) because of the potential for a Chris Carpenter vs Chris Carpenter game being possible would generate at least a few good jokes on NESN during the game. |

Dont get me wrong, hes not a closer right now. If things go well for him this year He would be a solid 7th inning guy. Totally forgot hes 26 already, so hes not even a prospect in my book.

I'm pretty surprised that Damon hasn't found a place to play yet. I know he's basically a DH at this point and he may not be a prototypical power DH guy but he still gets on base consistently. Hope he latches on somewhere, he's 277 hits away from 3,000 so if he could somehow find a place to DH full-time for 2 more years he'd get there. Always been a Damon fan so it would be great to see him get there.
Feel like he's going to have to wait for an injury in spring training though, or possibly be a mid-season signing if he plays at all...taking 3,000 out of play. Don't think he really wants to be a bench player, and if he went to the NL he'd be basically limited to 1 pinch hit AB a game because he really can't throw at all. |

It wouldnt surprise me to see Damon go the way of guys like Jermaine Dye and Ray Durham - guys who may have been productive, but cost more than they are worth and never really retire but just vanish. You pointed out that hes not a power guy, but he didnt get on base either last year (.326). When you factor in continued age regression, whats Damon worth then? Every team has that guy in AAA that can mash but cant play the field, and they dont crack the 25 man roster. Damon would have to do something really well to warrent a big league deal, and I dont think he cant provide that. I mean, the A's think Manny has more to offer than Damon, even with a 50 game ban.
As far as the 3000 hits go: 277 hits is alot. It may even be 3 years to make that if you figure he dosent have much chance of playing in another 150 games this season. Hell, Fred Mcgriff was 7 homers shy of 500, and no one gave him a job. I feel for you if you are a Damon fan. He was a good (if at times overrated) player. You are right in that he would need an injury to happen in Spring training to get picked up, but even then everyone will have a cheep young guy with possible upside in camp already. Good luck to your boy. |

I know it would never happen, but I would probably mark out if the Mets signed Damon just because I like him. It would make zero sense based on the park they play in because Collins likes to feel confident that he can play his reserves in the field and Damon's noodle arm in that park would just be death, unfortunately. Not that Damon would accept a strictly bench role, anyway.

Actually, now that I look at the Mets roster, this is the fewest Opening Day roster spots they've had to fill entering spring in a very long time...which is odd considering how underwhelming the team looks on paper.
From what I can see, they really only need to fill the final bench spot (probably going to go to a lefty outfielder, ST invites Adam Loewen and Mike Baxter are the main candidates) and a final bullpen spot (probably going to be a lefty, I'd say Chuck James has the early edge since he can also be a swingman and throw multiple innings). I guess Mike Nickeas could play his way out of the backup catcher spot too if he has a horrendous spring...but he's already on the 40-man roster and it's not like Rob Johnson or Lucas May are anything to write home about. Everybody else is set in stone. Just seems kinda weird. The teams in years past that have looked a lot better on paper had way more spots up for grabs than they do now. Probably speaks volumes about the organization at this point that they really can't afford to bring any new guys in. |

The biggest problem for Damon this offseason was the lack of interest in the DH market considering almost all of the AL teams already had the spot filled on their team for 2012 with the rest choosing the cheaper/youth player.
Would be a waste for NL teams to go after him considering his lack of defense and throwing range. |

I think the problem with Damon is that he wants 5M when similar DH types are getting 1-2M or nothing at all.

I don't know how much this really improves his reputation. Apparently he won the appeal by arguing the testing process itself and not the actual results. I guess the argument was that the sample wasn't shipped in a timely fashion or something.
Sucks for Braun since none of this was supposed to be made public unless he failed the appeal anyway. But I don't know how much this is really gonna change opinion of him if he really did just win the appeal on a technicality. |

The argument was that somebody leaked the story and broke confidentiality. This whole process would have been kept a secret if somebody didn't squeal in November.

Bobby Jenks out till mid-season for the Red Sox after it was recently revealed the back surgery he had in December was to correct a screw up from a surgery he had in September. Got bad enough to be diagnosed as a life threatening situation due to the mistake.
Roy Oswalt also coincides he won't be getting any decent deals after holding out this long and is looking at a mid-season window for a job this season. He keeps refusing offers by the Red Sox and now its rumored his value dropped again from $10 million to now just $5 million. |

Maybe he has some dirt of Braun like McNamee with Clemens or instead of baseball cards, the guy likes to collect athlete pee to show to his friends.

Browsing Spring Training tix and looking at a Reds/Angels game, 1st row 3rd baseline. Hate the Angels but I'd like to see Pujols maybe. Haven't been to that ballpark either.

Still have to go to Goodyear (Red/Indians), Camelback (White Sox/Dodgres), Diablo (Angels), and Hohokom (Cubs). Then I can say I've been to all of them. Wanna go to the first two this year hopefully.
Can't believe I live down the road from one. Maryvale (Brewers) are in the middle of a fucking ghetto. |

What?! Good for Braun?!?! He never argued that he never took PEDs, just that the chain of custody written per MLB's own policy was not followed, even though what was actually done was standard operating procedures in other sports. So in other words: "I'm guilty, but....HAHAHAHAHA FUCK YOU!!"
