Nats announce Steve Strasburg is gonna start on opening day.
I know he missed 99% of last season, but is he really ready to go? |

Chipper retiring at the end of the year. Happy to have had a chance to see him play since his minor league days in Macon. Hope he stays healthy this year; the Braves need him badly.

Just popped in to say that I am fucking blown away that chipper jones is still playing. Literally been playing since I was like 9 years old. Had no idea until I saw that headline (I don't watch baseball, by the way)

Joba had some sort of off-field freak accident that caused an open dislocation of his right ankle. He was jumping on a trampoline with this son.
He's out for a while. Wonderful. |

Bobby Jenks arrested for a DUI. No beer in the clubhouse seems to be working.

It might be time to cut the loss with Joba and move on.

Damn, apparently Joba lost a life-threatening amount of blood with the injury. Can't imagine he'll be seen any time soon. I think next year (2013) is his last year where he's arbitration eligible so it wouldn't surprise me if he's done with the Yankees.

Shouldn't Joba be the one getting a DUI and Bobby Jenks the one getting injured doing something terrible?

Ryan Madson becomes the second closer in a week to go down. Tommy John Surgery. Out for the year.
Poor guy had one of the worst off-seasons ever. Went from being on the brink of a long-term deal to TJS, taking a big deal off the table for next year already. |

It might seem like a sweet deal now, but this is coming off of his first year as a closer. Might have been his one and only chance to properly cash in on it. Some closers tend to come out of nowhere - so who knows, maybe everybody will have their closing situation locked up by the time Madson is actually ready to pitch again. Plus you'll have set-up guys like K-Rod, Mike Adams, etc. hitting the market so competition will always be stiff.

already another rift between Valentine and the players.
Valentine suggested Daniel Bard needs another pitch to be great with instead of just relying on the fastball while Bard keeps refusing any help from Valentine. The issue revolves around if Bard is to be a starter, he needs more than just a fastball to be good and having a second quality pitch could help him struggle less if he stays as a reliever. Bard seems to be doing the same Papelbon did and refusing to improve his pitch choices and rely on just the fastball. |

So much for Jose Iglesias finally getting his spot as starting SS for the Red Sox since he got demoted to Pawtucket to start the season and instead Alvies gets the spot.
Nick Punto ended up getting the backup spot. |

Yankees sign Jack Cust to a minor league gig after the Astros cut him loose yesterday.
A bit of a safety net since Raul Ibanez ain't doing what he was brought in to do during spring training. |
