It would appear Mr. Weber is to be a RFA at the end of this contract. Well now, that could put Nashville in a dilly of a pickle capwise..wait a second. They have the least amount committed and likely will offer him an obscene amount of money for his services.

I really could see Weber moving to another team in the middle of the year. Maybe Nashville will try to trade him instead of losing him to another team for nothing at the end of the season.

Potential for the discussions involving the new CBA to get ugly soon since the owners laid down the hammer in their first proposal.

Some of the demands include:
* 19% decrease in the player's side of revenue sharing which drops their overall amount from the current 57% to the proposed 46% for the players-owners split.
* Contracts no longer than 5 years anymore.
* Players must earn 10 years of career time before they can apply for unrestricted free agent status regardless of their age.
* No more signing bonuses
* No more scaled yearly salaries where the back-end is more wealthy than the front-end.

Union already said they will be willing to play into part of next season without a CBA while the owners made no guarantees.

Ugh, this is becoming a tradition. They need a deal hammered out that will be in place for years. Trying to get more fans in America while having a lockout three times in 16 years is not going to work well for them.

I would be surprised if Nashville didn't match. pretty smart of Philly, it mens that it is either Nashville or Philadelphia that gets him. Takes all other teams out of the process.

And even so, it's the Flyers, he'll be traded in 3 years. The Flyers, signing people to long term contracts, then trading them in 3 years since 2011.

But since it's Philadelphia we're talking about, the draft picks would suck anyway because they always end up near the top. I think that four draft picks that end up being 20th or over could be worth it for Weber.

Either way, Nashville could get screwed imo. They'll have Weber eating up cap space for 14 years, assuming they don't trade him, if they match. Plus, if the next four years are weak draft class's, they are screwed there too.

Gary has to balance everything hrough the prism of to ownership group philosophies. As much slack as he deserves to get, I doubt anyone would do a better job with the divide that isit between the ownership camps and the 'VS' attitude that also exist between owners and players.

He is an easy target, he's smug and comes off may too elitist, but the guy has done prttey good considering what he has to work with.

So the players gave their counter-proposal and they've made some concessions, that has ownership surprised. This is a good sign, that the 2 sides will work together and get something done.

No matter how much money the players end up keeping, I really hope that the NHL will successfully include the 5 year limit on contracts.

No more of these grand 15 year deals that are front loaded in order to circumvent the cap hit. Whatever the player is earning in a given season, must be the cap hit for that given season.

I do hope that the cap is successfully lowered. It's crazy how much the cap ceiling has increased since it first came into effect.

Hopefully the NHL can avoid losing another season. If it happens again, can we expect a lockout every time the CBA ends?

Pretty much. I love hockey but I really am getting sick of this to the point I don't want to watch anymore.

They need the available to abolish one contract per team ala buyout but half cost or something for twice as many years as the contract or something that could rid a team of a Gomez contract.
