Resident Evil Mercenaries/Revelations (3DS)
Anniversaries aplenty on Capcom's end. One of my fave series, happy to be playing it. |

Some really bad news for Mercenaries which could also be done to Revelations depending on if Capcom drops the plans or huge consumer backlash to the recent announcement of only 1 save allowed per game cart.
Similar to one of the more recent Dragon Quest games on the DS, only 1 save spot will be allowed and if someone wants to start a new game or create a new save, it requires a brand new copy of the game to be bought (or in theory reformat the 3DS/cart itself). Quote:

Yanking out the cart while it saves usually does the trick.

It's pretty obvious that it's a way to stop people buying it second hand. No one will pay £20 for a game someones already finished that they can't restart.

If it won't format when it finds corruption, then they'll need to replace my cart.
One of the DS cart dumping tools works with 3DS too, so you can dump saves to your PC now as re-write them too, making this a pointless endeavor. |

Looks like Gamestop and GameFly won't be accepting trade-ins for the game (Gamestop's case) or have the title available for rental (GameFly's case).
This isn't the first time Gamestop has said they would refuse to sell or accept trade-ins of a Capcom game since Capcom has stated earlier in development they were pushing to limit a way for used sales. Square-Enix did the same with a Dragon Quest game on the DS but the biggest difference was Dragon Quest was a huge selling series on the DS for Gamestop to ignore trade-ins or sales. http://screwattack.com/blogs/ScrewAt...ries-Trade-Ins |

Gamestop dropped its threat of not accepting trade-ins and will honor any trade-ins started today but the value is expected to be much lower than a normal game traded in.
Amazon user reviews for the game are trashing more of what Capcom is doing than the game being bad with about 93+ reviews and all being bad towards Capcom. Too early to figure out the sales from Amazon but its expected those will also drop badly now that word is spreading of the permanent save restriction. http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/29/game...-amazonbombed/ |

I bet they'd be sued too if done for commercial purposes. And if they werent sued, the game companies probably would just refuse to provide them new games to sell.

You might think its stupid, but it will happen.
If you are a business (Capcom) and you do not like a stores business policy (Wiping your game's carts to sell as used when you specifially made them not to be sold used) you would probably consider not providing them with any new merchandise to sell in protest. |

OR maybe Capcom no longer does that shit (which is objectively, ethically wrong) and then their games remain in stores. Who needs who, genius?
Don't bring your alarmist logic here. |

its not "ethically" wrong. Its their game that they created, they can do whatever the hell they want with it. If they want to charge $40 for a game and make it so you can only play it once, then so be it. You arent forced to buy it..
If enough people dont buy the games, then possibly they wont do it to further games. If they do, then either people will adjust to only having 1 game save file or Capcom will go out of business. Its sorta how this whole thing works. |

They already something sort of similar in the past with the series with Resident Evil 5 saves being "locked" to a PS3 console than using the more common saves tied to accounts or transferable.

Capcom scraps any plans for future titles to use the 1-save or "locked" save system after getting massive backlash from both potential customers and retailers.
They've been doing something similar either with the "locked" save or DRM-like plan ever since Resident Evil 5 came out for the PS3 but now announced they won't be doing anything similar ever again. It was rumored that Resident Evil Revelations on the 3DS would have used the same 1-save system had the backlash not been that bad to the company. http://kotaku.com/5817925/resident-e...t-happen-twice |

"Horde"-like mode confirmed for RE Revelations and once again Capcom confirms multiple saves possible and they can be deleted (unlike Mercenaries).
"Raid" mode is a co-op mode using a few levels from the single player part of the game and can be played either over wifi or local. http://www.gamezone.com/news/residen...aid-co-op-mode |

Yup, PC and the HD triplets. lol Vita. Gonna get the PC one if that version is on time. DmC was pretty timely, so hopefully Capcom have got their shit together. I'm fine that RE6 PC isn't out yet. |

Capcom stated the reason there is no Vita version is because they feel this game is best enjoyed on a large screen.
Then when asked why there was a 3DS version to begin with they stated it was because both handhelds are really different systems. http://www.screwattack.com/news/capc...ita-appearance |

People will still cry about it not being on Vita. Fanboys always cry until they get their way.
I don't know what annoys me more. The crying or when companies cave in to it, reinforcing the fanboys sense of importance and, consequently, encouraging them to cry anytime they don't get their own way. |
