College hockey players are far better then juniors for the most part. They more often then not, are older, bigger, faster and stronger.

Stymies me why they aren't scouted that much at all.

They tire out faster as young players due to juniors being better equiped for the long season. They aren't scouted much because the fast majority of solid players play for North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan or Wisconsin. You're hard pressed to find solid players outside of their conference. The Frozen Four is an amazing tournament, but the level of play is much better in the junior ranks. Plus, there's not alot of parity in the NCAA.

The majority of AUS Hockey here in Canada is rarely if ever scouted. There are alot of good players that never have a scout watch them because it is assumed only the best players are in juniors and no where else. College hockey is a good option for alot of players because with juniors its either do or die, either you make it or you have nothing to fall back on. With a college education, if you don't make it, then you at least have something to fall back on.

Im not saying the overwhelming majority of college players are better then juniors, but alot of them in my opinion would slot in better then juniors as most college players have been playing against men their whole college career.

Their bodies are also more developed and you as a smart hockey fan know that a fair few good hockey players came through college to the NHL.

Yes, you are correct there. However, if I was an NHL GM and I had to pick between

OHL Player - 18 years old, 6'0, 180 pounds and having played 64 games last season

or

NCAA - 22 years old, 6'0, 200 pounds and having played 32 games.

I would take the NCAA player unless its well known the OHL player is in a league his own, the reasons is, he is older, more mature, likely has played longer, body, muscles and likely game play is more developed and NCAA players are generally bigger as well as they are past the end of their growth period and are as big as they are going to get. An 18-20 year old is still growing a bit.

Thats just my opinion though taken from what I have seen.

Sabres tend to draft ALOT of college players.

Drew Stafford
Nathan Gerbe
Thomas Vanek
Ryan Miller

OF their recent picks in the draft they have drafted about 1/3 of their picks from college.

From the current team. Seems to work pretty well.

Not as much talent as Juniors though.

I will agree the talent level in the Juniors exceeds the college ranks, but I dont agree either is suiperior to development than the other. Really just happens that the most talented players dont end up on college, much like the NBA used to be.

I dont agree at all that Younger is better. You really would take someone based on age and games played over talent and skill?

College players take longer to develop. Yes you are better off drafting on average an 18 year old then a 22 year old.

I didn't bring up the age thing, FA did, he said it was a boon that they were older, I said not really when you talk about prospects because generally it is better to get them in to your system younger then older.

Unless you are a superstar or a very talented player or on a very very bad team you don't go straight from College or juniors to the NHL, so if they aren't getting in to your system until 22 they are 2 years minimum behind most junior players in professional development, not to mention Juniors is in itself a form of professional hockey, it helps these kids prepare for what is to come.

BTW CHL has education funds and scholarships set up so a lot of these kids are also going to school.

Plus on top there are way more team options in Junior then there is in College.

Look they are both solid ways to break in the NHL but at best they are equal (and that's a very best), there's just no way of claiming NCAA is superior overall to the CHL

The competition is NCAA isn't nearly as good as the CHL, especially outside of the WCHA and even there it's very top heavy. NCAA produces no goaltenders whatsoever, and the CHL is generally the rougher and tougher league. The NCAA is behind the CHL and Europe in terms of development.

Plus, more and more U.S born players are opting for the CHL.

A lot of Division I college hockey players spend a couple of years playing Juniors before going to NCAA. It's not uncommon to find Freshmen who are 20-21 years old playing college hockey.

Bruins ended up loosing though.

Might even end up last in the East depending on the Winnipeg game.

Still stink on scoring chances and even had almost a week off to prepare or fix the problem.

Yeah way too early and had a feeling just like Chicago the first 10 games or month would be a let-down due to winning the cup but didn't expect it to be this much of a drop in terms of scoring.

Thomas and Rask have been great so far and the defense is still solid just the sloppy play from last year and the lack of scoring is hurting right now.
