Missed most of the show, all that I wanted to see was the opening bit and the Mighty Wind performance
Did they do anything good for the opening or was it just a comedy routine? I was really hoping for them to bring back the opening where they would spoof the big movies. |

I wanted Depp to upset, but damn, I felt sorry for Murray. Anyone see his face when he lost? Jesus Christ.
Then Crystal had to come out and say: "Don't go, Bill." |

Yeah I was all happy when Sean Penn won, but then I felt real bad for Murray.

I was also hoping that 13 year old girl would win, so there would be awkward moment between her and Adrien Brody.

Damn all I cared about was Bill Murray winning. I felt damn bad for him and I left the room and then I heard Billy Crystal asking him not to leave or something. What was that all about?

Yeah. I saw after they announced Sean Penn he kinda just nodded his head and tried to hold back tears it looked like. Dammit I hope he gets another chance someday.

Oh and Annie Lennox winning for best original song was just wrong. It was fu>cking AWFUL! It only won because it's from LOTR. Total BS. One of the Allison Krauss songs would have been okay but the song from A Mighty Wind should have won.

Why did LOTR sweep this year when it didn't get much of anything for the last 2 movies? it lost to ****ing CHICAGO last year. Disgusting. I'm not a huge fan, but it seems hypocritical to award it so much this year and so little for the other two - it's not like this one was remarkably different than the others or anything.
But I was rather satisfied with the results, though I too would've liked for Mystic River to get the nod for best picture. I agree that Penn should've won, I wouldn't have minded Murray winning, but what's so bad about losing? isn't being nominated pretty damn good? I'm just glad Depp didn't win. |

Being nominated is good but seeing as how the Academy is WAY too obviously biased towards comedies, he may never get another chance to win one.

Yeah. I think they ought to have separate categories like the Golden Globes. It's hard to compare Dramatic vs Comedic films, they're so different on so many levels.
Added note - I missed Steve Martin. He is the man. But at least they didn't have fuc>king Whoppi Goldberg...ugh... |

I think having seperate categories kind of cheapens the awards. There has to be a way to fairly compare acting in dramas and comedies.

Lord of The Rings: Return of The King, is a great great movie, not my favorite out of the nominated movies. But I understand why it won, and I don't really have any problem with it. Fellowship still is my favorite one however, but when it comes to ROTK winning so many awards this year and not the last two this is why... This year the only real "technical marvel" there was was ROTK. Last year we had Gangs of New York, and Chicago. The year prior you had Moulin Rouge!... This year the only thing really on that level was Master and Commander and that wasn't anything we didn't see in Pirates of the Caribbean. I thought Mystic River should have won best adapted screenplay, and I thought Holly Hunter should have won best Supporting Actress.

Any time a single entity sweeps an awards show it pretty much further cheapens the concept of awards.
If it were a once in a while thing, that'd be different, but it seems to happen so often... |

I loved ROTK, but was extremely disappointed that it won 11 Oscars. I felt that it was the worst of the three LOTR movies (Towers being the best), so seeing this movie win over Mystic River and Big Fish (which wasn't even NOMINATED) was a disappointment to me. I know they were rewarding three years worth of work, but...the other nominees may as well not even have submitted anything this year. I feel bad for Clint Eastwood, Sofia Coppola (even though she did get her Screenplay Oscar), and all the other filmmakers not named Peter (except Peter Weir).

Yea pretty predictable... I figured LOTR would win although I personally thought both Lost in Translation and Mystic River were both better movies. I'll admit that Peter Jackson did finally deserve to win best director.
Despite being a bad movie i'm curious as to why Matrix Revolutions didn't get a best visual effects nomination. |
