The Colts have lost there starting RB, starting TE and best offensive lineman since training camp, for the season. They probably not winning the SB, but they will beat the 49ers. That's how these things work.

Colts apparently just traded a 1st round pick for Trent Richardson, he of "drafted 3rd overall a year ago" fame

As always, God hates Cleveland.
I do have faith in Lombardi though, in that he knows what he's doing. It will be interesting to see their draft next year. Two picks apiece in rounds 1, 3, and 4. crossrine |

Yeah. Pretty monster draft coming up but this just feels like it is coming from left field here. Trent Richardson was Cleveland's only offensive franchise player. I guess they feel like they can really rob this upcoming draft here. I hope they're right or this was a really awful move.

I don't understand it from the point that Richardson was drafted 3rd overall (and he was probably worth it there), and there is no way the pick they are getting is going to be anywhere near equivalent. At least ask for another low round pick or something...

Trent must have wanted out and they granted him a trade. Only explanation that makes sense to me.

According to ESPN, it seems to be more the Browns didn't know how to use him in their new system and they pretty much threw in the towel for this season.

So the Colts end up with 2 out of the top 3 picks from last year's draft and the Browns basically give up last year's 7th, 5th, 4th, and 1st round (#4 overall) picks for one 1st rounder next year that will likely be in the bottom half of the round.
Trade of the century. |

Irsay hit the panic button and that's all there is to it. Vick Ballard went down and I guess they got no faith in Bradshaw or my boy Donald Brown.
Browns could have gotten a king's ransom out of this. But I guess another 1st rounder works just fine. |

Willis McGahee is in Cleveland taking a physical. Looking like he's gonna be the Browns' runningback until they get it together.
Anybody looking to a runningback for fantasy. Go grab him. |

To play a bit of devil's advocate here...
If there is one area that could be described as a "strength" on the Cleveland Browns, it would be their offensive line. With their line, Richardson simply wasn't getting it done. Given his draft pedigree and relative lack of success at the pro level, it could be argued that his value will never be as high as it is now (or at any point prior), so "cutting bait" on him now as opposed to getting much less of a return for a player they didn't want down the road makes sense. Also keep in mind he was drafted in 2011, they have an entirely new front office staff top to bottom who may not have wanted a player like Richardson in their plans. It is very typically seen when a team cuts loose a QB that doesn't "fit" the system; why should a RB be any different? RB is a position that is not terribly difficult to fill. Again, being that they have a good O-line, finding a good back to fit their blocking scheme shouldn't be terribly difficult. There are many holes on the roster that a 1st round pick definitely has more "value" than a good runningback does. Anyone who's read Lombardi on NFL.com or listened to him on the BS Report is familiar with his "blue chip player" mentality. It's possible he simply doesn't feel that Richardson is a blue chip player and he feels that the 1st round pick they received from Indy can potentially be a blue chipper at another position on their roster. Plus, there's probably a bit of tanking for Clowney/Bridgewater involved as well. Who knows. Again, I'd give Lombardi the benefit of the doubt here. The timing is odd though, seeing as Brian Hoyer ( ) is starting this week and they'll need to lean heavily on the running game. crossrine |

Someone in a 20 team league I'm in already had McGahee for some reason. So I picked up Bobby Rainey. Maybe they see something in him and he can come out of nowhere and produce.

Basically, you're wrong. The Colts or any team who's going to finish 8-8 at the very least, orany team dominating the league, would accept that trade. |

What if it turns out that Richardson is a turd. Or basically another Brandon Jacobs/Benjarvus Green-Ellis goal line type.
He wasn't that good last year. I don't know. He'll probably be good. But it'd be funny if he wasn't. |

Trying to find something funny to say along the lines of "Andrew is going to need his Luck come Sunday" but it just feels half-hearted after that abomination loss to Seattle. My heart just isn't in it.

I actually think this 49ers v Colts might turn out to be one of the best games of the year. If the offensive line can protect Luck, look the Fuck out. He's dominant when he gets the time. I'm the biggest Manning fan ever. Everyone here knows it. But Luck is for real good. He might not be Peyton this year. Hell, Peyton might win a SB this year. But in positive Luck will win one for Indy.
And if you doubt me, go back and read all the NFL threads from 2004 on. I told everyone how great Peyton would be when no one believed it. And I stood by it. Luck will win a Superbowl. |

To be fair, I don't think Peyton gets the credit he deserves for being a world class choke artist. Obviously one of the most amazing players of our generation but Id pick many guys over him with one must-win game on the line.

If its just strictly regular season, Tom Brady?
Playoffs, Eli would be a better Manning choice. 8-3 playoff record, a few come from behind wins, and almost all were either road games or them as the underdog choice. |

Jesus FUCKING Christ I hope the NFL stops with this Thursday night bullshit. A game that actually looked somewhat enticing ended up being fucking brutal just like every other Thursday game in existence.
If I hear Mike Mayock use that retarded ass cliche "much-maligned" one more time I am going to ragequit on football for fucking ever. My least favourite sports commentator of all time, and that includes Joe Buck and Pierre Mcguire. |
