Best last run

Stings last run got me thinking, assuming he does have his match at Revolution and ride off into the sunset its been a really fun last ride for him.

He hasn't hogged the top of the card, hes got some great pops, done some very memorable stuff in (or around) the ring, hasnt been to proud to admit his shortcomings and lean into it and shown a whole new generation of people why hes so long lasting as a performer.

I would rate this run of his as one of the best from an older guy who is going to get some form of fairly tale ending whether that be going out on his back on his terms or as I would prefer ending his career as tag champ.

Who else has had such a strong run to the end? Stone Colds final run feels epic in retrospect but I dont think that was really something anyone knew was coming and I am choosing to ignore the time as GM and his Owens match.

I couldn't really think of anyone else who had a retirement tour and got a run like this as an aged performer.

It is hard to say because what is even considered a run? When Hogan returned in 2002 he was around often enough for 13 months or so (not counting Mr America). That was a pretty epic run.

Put Rock over at Mania 18
Won the Title from Triple H at Backlash
Put over Taker at Judgement day losing the title
Put over Kurt Angle at KOTR with a tap out
Won the tag titles with Edge
Put over Christian and Lance Storm for those titles
Put over Lesnar huge on Smackdown
Put over heel Hollywood Rock at No Way Out
Beat Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania 19

Then it got to the Mr America stuff, and Hulk was gone about 3 months later.

In terms of a final run though, that 13 months was a good piece of business.

Also, it is important to note that Hogan was 49-50 during that run, which at the time felt pretty old, but Sting at 64 is for sure more impressive.

I know this is a topic from a user named “Sting Fan,” but somehow I knew it would be an excuse to overrate Sting’s embarrassing last run. It could be worse, but the dude does stunts in a t-shirt for those last few giant paychecks. There’s a tinge of sadness to it.

What even counts as a “run?” Can I count Mick Foley as Cactus Jack in 2000?

I'd say Ric Flair in WWE, but.... turned out to be hardly his last run.

This is often the challenge, someone has a great last run and send off then they just cant help but come back again.

Could happen with Sting yet but I am hoping hes more sensible than that.

Hard to say what constitutes a "last run" and a short-time appearance. Mick Foley in 2006 when he fueded/teamed with Edge was pretty damn good. Not sure if that counts though. Obviously Michaels, from 2002-2010, considering that we never thought we'd get more than a one-off match from him at Summerslam 2002, he ended up living out the best half of his career.

Huge props to Sting though, the guy is an absolute legend, and still delivers great performances. He "knows his role" and is absolutely showing why he's one of the greats.

Of course not counting Mr. America! I don't think I like what you're trying to insinuate, so I'll make it crystal clear: Hogan and Mr. America are totally different people---the polygraph doesn't lie!
