Looking for a good antivirus program

For about a month, I've been getting random popup ads on every site I visit.

First it will be a new browser window with a random ad (strtsrv.something or other is the "headline" then it changes to an ad), then it will be a little video ad in the lower right corner of the screen that autoplays whatever the ad is.

I thought it was just one website, but it happens on every page so I think it's time to find a new ad blocker thing.

Any suggestions? Free is preferred, but I wouldn't mind spending a little bit if it will improve performance.

Using a Dell Latitude D630 running Windows XP, by the way. Yup, too broke to get a new machine just yet.

Thanks, smart dudes/dudettes!

Found this website saying I should download cloud system booster. Anyone deal with this program? Is it legit?

I'd be very wary of downloading that to remove the virus.

This seems a little more reliable, just go straight to step 2: http://www.pccaretips.com/blog/how-t...-redirect.html

I use Avast and it's one of the better free antiviruses.

Between Avast and Malwarebytes, you should be fine. Just use common sense when downloading or installation anything.

Edit: nvm just saw you just needed an ad blocker. Adblock plus extension, either on Chrome or Firefox.

Avast. There's a paid version, then theres the free version that you have to renew every year. I use the free version and have had no problems at all.

And yeah, AdBlocker Plus wouldn't hurt either.

For anti-virus, MalwareBytes Pro is unrivaled, in my opinion, $25 for a lifetime license and the additional services that come with it are well worth it. Ad Blocker plus, as others have stated, is the easiest and best for ad blocking.

I found the program causing the issue. It has been eliminated, but I installed Avast and will try to get that ad blocker extension thing "to be safe."

Thanks for the help!
