Should Finn Balor dethrone Kevin Owens as the NXT Champion at the July 4th Tokyo show
Hey guys! Considering Finn Balor's "notoriety" in Japan, should he defeat Kevin Owens to capture his maiden NXT title?

Owens beats Cena cleanly at MITB early in the show, beats the piss out of Kofi backstage, takes his spot in the Ladder match and wins the briefcase, vacates NXT Championship next week on Raw, NXT match in Japan would then be Balor versus the winner of a #1 Contenders Tournament.

They've painted themselves into a corner. Owens losing to an NXT guy right now would be completely counter-productive. But so would Owens continuing to carry the NXT title around while feuding with Cena. They also had Owens shit all over the US Title and prop the NXT title up as a bigger prize so a situation where he relinquishes it willingly or wins the US Title and is forced to relinquish it wouldn't make sense. No idea what the most logical way out of the situation would be.

Something has to happen for him to have a reason to relinquish the title and prefer the US strap.
Cena wins at MitB and Owens is irate on Raw, his son was full of "I told you so's" and he can't stand that his son sees Cena as a hero and not the dad who has wrestled all over the world to provide for him. He knows he is better and wants one last shot. Vince comes out and says that he has been impressed, but as far as he is concerned, while he has the NXT title, he is not fully his property and he cannot let him chase his titles unless he relinquishes NXT. So its either that, or no shot at Cena and redemption. Owens agonises for weeks but finally decides that he needs Cena and the US title more, for his own sanity and to prove to the world that he is better, a real hero to his son, and a proper US champ. He wins it at Battleground and Cena is protected cause of the win at MitB |

Think Semi Zayn should get involved in some way and helps Balor in return gives Semi a title shot when healthy. Or Joe gets involded.

Cena shows up on NXT and costs Owens the NXT Championship. It'd be huge for NXT and be logical. I legit thought they were going to do that with Owens vs Neville on RAW.

But Finn Balor shouldn't win the title. As a matter of fact, he should be organically built up. Throwing titles on wrestlers is what makes their momentum go down. Once they've won a title, it seems like in this day and age, they have "nowhere to go but down" to alot of fans/writers. What happened to people "working their way up the ladder". Thats why people respect you. Yea, we know wrestling is fake from a winner/loser standpoint, but we know who the work horses are and the ones who are "favorites" when they get there. GREATS didnt win titles until yearsss down the road. I don't care if its just the NXT title or not, make fans feel like either "YES, FINALLY HES DONE IT" or "DAMMIT, I HATE THAT GUY BUT HE DID BUST HIS ASS". |

It's as good as time as any to show WWE Network how over he is in Japan. Korugan Hall. It's the perfect place.

Cena infecting NXT weirds me out, but the show isn't technically an NXT show. He can cost him the title at the July 4 without going on NXT TV.

CENA invading NXT would be a huge deal, and you could let Cena play the heel.

That would make sense if it wasn't for the fact that he spent two weeks on Raw making it very clear that he valued the NXT Title over the US Title.

It's time. Owens' over-inflated ego off two victories over Cena will go a long way in explaining how the rookie can beat Owens. It's also Balor's "home turf" in a way, and he can bring out the epicness of The Daemon. It's his WrestleMania. Owens needs to be on RAW and SmackDown every week at this point, and the NXT Title just keeps his fingers in too many pies.

Right and THAT'S the option that didn't make sense. I seem to recall some guy calling himself the Real World's Champion, only to declare the WWF title the only championship that mattered as soon as he won it. Not that I expect anyone to understand heel psychology in 2015.

Flair didn't turn down a shot at the WWF Title though. Owens literally did just that. That's not some genius psychology. That's retarded.

Cena imtentionally costing somebody a championship seems rather out of character for him.

Unless Owens does something incredibly evil that warrants Cena being "out for blood".

Good god, some character development for the first time in 10 years would be insane wouldn't it? I think it'd be nice to see Cena have some meaningful reaction to an opponent beating him besides "OH WELL, I still love my fans and want to work harder next time!!"

Cena working quasi-heel in NXT could bring in more viewers to NXT and be easily explained away since Cena is his own walking deus ex machina. |

Steele beat me to it, I'd also have Cena cost Owens the title. Have Owens about to do the apron power bomb on Balor, Cena's music hits, out he comes, stare down with Owens, Owens rolls back into the ring, running drop kick into the corner, Coup De Grace, pin fall win.
Owens goes after the U.S. Championship not because he wants it (as he's made clear already) but because he wants to do what Cena did to him - but he's going to do it himself, because he's a man. |

We just needs Owens to get distracted by Cena for Balor to steal the win. Cena doesn't need to get physically involved to cost Owens the title.

Don't know why I just thought of this...
Make it a ladder match. Owens has a chance to climb the ladder while Balor is out but he chooses to "finish him off" instead by going for the apron powerbomb. Cena comes out to stop him and they brawl as Balor comes to and climbs the ladder to win the title. Gets the title off of Owens logically without having him take a pinfall against an NXT guy that would completely fuck up the "unstoppable" aura he's got. |
