There's a lot to be said for nostalgia, but their nostalgia is stuck in a very specific, very small, window that's getting further and further away. The Attitude Era cannot be allowed to be the be-all and end-all, but between fawning Network pieces, DVDs, and the nature of their Wrestlemania "dream matches", that's what they've turned it in to. What stars have they created since then that they could conceivably bring back to anything like the reaction that Shane McMahon got? Batista again?
They've put all of their nostalgia eggs in the Attitude Era basket, and it's a mixed metaphor well that's very close to running dry. That is the problem with nostalgia. In terms of building up new guys, yeah, we've got the New Day, Kevin Owens, Kalisto etc - but do they actually feel special, do they feel like "stars"? Or do they feel more like guys who are or will be members of the WWE midcard Nobody Gets Over Club? With the exception of Ambrose and Reigns (who their attempts to make the star are doing more harm than good to), they haven't made any stars, they've just built up a hell of a supporting cast. And sooner or later, the Attitude Era's dwindling relics will be too banged up, or too sick of answering Vince's call every February, and then what happens? There wasn't a single guy on the active roster that could conceivably step up to being a viable, marquee challenger for The Undertaker...so they had to call in Shane McMahon. Shane getting a bigger pop than anyone on the current roster isn't a validation of this angle, I'd argue that it's highlighting the underlying problem with it. |

Yeah I respect Shane for "putting his body on the line" in pretty insane way. What he did to himself again Kurt Angle was borderline psychotic.
But there are actual wrestlers who work their asses off night in and night out who deserve Shane's spot. The guy has to wrestle with a baseball jersey for god's sake. He can be a great performer but he is actually quite limited and overpowered (sorry redditt) and it drives me nuts that he gets to ever go toe-to-toe with actual wrestlers. At least when Vince does it he uses his money to cheat and gets his ass kicked the rest of the time. Shane gets to do flying elbows off fucking titan trons and gets to be the crazy guy. IN SAYING THAT, he can be very loveable and it was nice seeing him come out to that pop. But I hope amongst hope that they find a more suitable "WWE SUPERSTAR" to represent Shane vs the Undertaker. |

The point of the storyline is Shane ISNT a superstar, and has no chance against Taker. You can't tell the same story with a guy on the current roster against Taker. Unless it was someone like Zack Ryder or Hornswaggle. But they wouldn't add value to the match like Shane does.
It always amazes me how people can take a segment as cool as that and pick it apart. The crowd literally list their minds when he came out. |

Shane vs the UnderTaker is dumb. Taker is a face, but we should boo Taker because we want the authority gone from Raw. But everyone likes/respects taker so they won't boo him.

I had just watched the main event this morning and saw that gif on SC.
The difference between what blood looks like when someone really gets busted open vs blading vs last night makes last night look so fake that hopefully either they go no blood policy again or allow blading. The fake blood makes it look stupid. |

They should either blade or not, fake blood is dumb. The kids watching watching at home will believe it is real, so why not just have him blade.
Sponsors will think it is fine because it is fake? Is fake blood still PG? |
