Hogan on Jericho's podcast
What did we think of Hogan on Jericho's podcast?

I think he can't help but put himself over, but he seems like an alright guy. Like he means well to the extent that he is always going to look out for number one. Essentially standard Hogan fair.

He really went out of his way to try say that he wanted to put people over, but no big names (Like Piper) wanted to repay the favour. While I do believe him on the Piper front, I think he's full of shit. He was a glory hog and cared more about getting himself over than anyone else. Not that it was always a bad thing because the guy was an awesome force.

As I said at the beginning though, all in all he seems like a decent dude. Not like a saint or anything, but he seems like he'd be cool to get drunk with. He'd have some great stories although many of them wouldn't be true.

What'd y'all feel about him?

yeah i would like to know why piper never had the belt, i thought it was more piper was a pain in the ass, hogan needs to go on pipers podcast then we will get the story. oh pipers 2 part podcast with russo has been good so far.

Hogan has been part of some questionable booking decisions in the past, but so have Triple H and John Cena, for that matter.

Yeah, i think Hogan came from the age of HAVING to look out for number one. I think a lot more guys these days would benefit from that. Y'know, the brass ring factor.

I dunno if Hogan was working Jericho, but I believed him when he said he loved working with Jericho, because he knew Jericho would do business. No bullshit. Jericho is a professional and there's no worry about getting potato'd or stretched or some maverick shit. In Hogan's day, that's what he had to deal with and I DO get it.

But then you go and watch WM 6 when he drops the belt to Warrior, and it's such a sly political move. He makes it seem like he wants to put Warrior over all the while milking and staying around too long, not giving Warrior his moment. He would do shit like that all the time. I guess it makes sense though... he came from an era of guys being in business for themselves so really he just had to be in business for himself. So I get it. I mean as much as I love Bret Hart and I think Hogan should have passed the torch and blah blah blah Bret's as much a mark for himself as Hogan is and while he'd usually put guys over he was doing it in a way that was being in business for himself.

At the end of the day its not a team sport, but any kind of athletic job gives you a limited shelf life in terms of prime money making years, you want to make as much money as humanly possible so when the day comes and you're passed over you're set. Not a fan of Hogan but he gets that better than almost anyone, taking holidays just before the NBA playoffs and the rating drops so it looks like he caused the slump to getting a contract stating no matter where he is on the card he gets paid the most, he gets shit for it but pretty much every top guy tries to protect there spot as long as they can.

When you look at the way certain people are booked who reportedly don't exercise any political swing, you can sort of understand why.

Look at Kane, yes he has been given a job for a long time and looked after by the company but his run has been all over the place. WE should have been looking at s strong Kane finally beating the Undertaker and killing the streak at some stage, but he has been a joke for years now, despite his obvious qualities.

Even Big Show, if he had looked after himself more and maybe not gone for every idea that was thrown at him, where could his career have been? It should have been so much more. In wrestling, I can understand not trusting the long line of terrible bookers with your "spot"

Well in all fairness everything Hogan did with Dungeon of Doom is worse than most shitty things Kane and Big Show have done. But I guess neither of them had that kind of resume before their characters were killed.

I was watching the Monday Night Wars and Hogan at some point exercised his creative control from his contract. He said he had never had to do it before then...well of course not, you should were booked to be the #1 guy from the moment you arrived. Can't blame him though for being full of himself.

A lot of marginal talent got big pay days because of Hogan, especially in the 80's. Hogan needed a constant influx of heels, so guys like King Kong Bundy, Kamala, Earthquake and Akeem got to main event large cards and collect huge paycheques because of Hogan.

Slightly off topic Whats the deal with him constantly talking about returning to the ring, he can barely walk and I'm not sure anyone would be attending a WM to see him attempt to wrestle(by wrestle I mean punch hulk up boot and a leg drop) let alone hobble to the ring.

I get this point, and am sure guys like Quake really appreciated it, but Earthquake was awesome in this feud and deserved a sustained push after it. Hogan could have gone over him without going OTT in my opinion. No selling his finisher, which was so over and devastating by that stage, helped no-one, not even Hogan.

I think he did well to protect his spot, but he sometimes went overboard with the way he did it. No need to no sell finishers and all of that. It just kills the finisher and made him look no stronger for kicking out of it.

I don't know, I recall losing my shit every time Hulk kicked out and Hulked up. Still love that spot. Hogan kicking out of the Rock Bottom at WM18 was the single biggest mark out moment I've ever had.

BUT if holding back on Hulking up out of certain special occasions such as Earth Quakes splash would have gone a long way. Especially for a talented guy like John Tenta.

The pro-Hogan crowd in that match is one of the greatest moments of all time. The audio of the recording doesn't do it justice. Sitting up in the front row of the 500's at Skydome looking down at everything, the atmosphere inside there was unreal.

I listened to the podcast & generally though Hogan looked pretty okay. The big thing that set off my bullshit detector was when he said he was excited to turn heel and wanted to do it after WM6. EVERYONE else says he was totally reluctant to turn heel for the nWo angle.
