There are plenty of opponents for Austin to choose from, as you all have pointed out. I'm holding out for the potential Punk/Austin match, but right now it seems like he's gone for good. but

I'd love to see Austin come back for a one-time match against a big name. Austin versus Cena would be a dream match that would make for a major WrestleMania main event. Austin versus Randy Orton or Austin versus Daniel Bryan would also make perfectly acceptable major main event matches (Punk isn't coming back, I've accepted that).

But a full-time run or even a part-time run like Jericho/RVD just seems out of the question for me. The man will be 50 years old in December. It'd just be sad to see. Him saying that he could do the rigorous full-time schedule at this point in his life is just compensation for getting old - wanting to believe he's still in good enough shape to play with the boys. But the reality is that he probably would not be able to stand up to the schedule of a full time WWE Superstar. His neck wouldn't allow it. He would end up crippled.

Not only that, but his character is all about flipping people off and drinking beer. He wouldn't be able to come to the ring without his t-shirts or vests getting blurred for inappropriate language. His character just doesn't fit into the PG-era. He's an old cowboy, already out past the sunset.

His "return" is to Gold's gym...fyi. He found a hole in the wall gym that he could get fit enough to return to a public gym. He's not coming back to the ring.
