Ring of Honor is supposed to be announcing a new title for the promotion on Tuesday. Could be a women's title, don't really need another mid card title I don't think.

I really don't like the TV Title in ROH. Given how people digest their media these days, the idea of a TV Title at all feels antiquated. It's also way too similar to the World Title. I'd be fine with them having World, Tag Team and Women's, provided they had the women for a division and that division was over and people wanted to see them fight over something.

I'd be fine with the Pure Title coming back too. I really associate that belt with good wrestlers getting to explore drama in their matches in different ways. I don't know if AJ Styles, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan or Nigel McGuinness would credit working within that paradigm for their eventual development, but I don't think it fucking hurt them. ROH is also associated with that ring style, but with the WWE, particularly NXT, picking it up, ROH needs something that sets itself apart. A Pure Title that allows guys to construct their matches differently could be the answer.

I've always been fascinated by the idea of a belt that is defended in 2/3 Falls Matches for the longest time though. Just to test the drama of having a champion that goes on a "two-straight fall" streak, or develops a series of moves that is designed to put opponents away two straight. It would help buck the conventions of your average match, and also challenge the usual booking strategies between 2/3 Falls matches (one fall a-piece, quick first fall, etc.).

I could see it being the Pure Championship just for it's lineage. Guys like Styles, Lethal, Samoa Joe, and Daniel Bryan being former champions is pretty big for the title if it returns. With the CMLL and NJPW both being featured in ROH it wouldn't hurt to have another mid card title. Feel like they are pushing the Women of Honor though and it will be a Women's championship.

It's a Six Man Championship

http://rohwrestling.com/news/roh-int...m-championship

Quote:
The inaugural ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions will be crowned in an eight-team tournament that begins at the end of September. This will be the first time in six years that ROH has created a new title.

Teams expected to compete in the tournament include: Bullet Club, The Cabinet (Rhett Titus, Kenny King and Caprice Coleman) and the current World Tag Team Champions The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) and Kamaitachi.

So these are the other two guys who signed with the company back when TNA signed a bunch of new talents. I like both guys, Konley has been a standout for years. I don't know if we need "another cocky arrogant heel" in the X division. He's done some really good work with tag teams, Caleb would be a good trash talker in a team with a burly enforcer behind him.... Is Ayden O'Shea still around? (Maybe put him and Konley in matching trunks) I liked Rocket, he's kind of a big dude to be in the X Division but he does move very well and it goes to the "no limits" idea.

Any word on them debuting on Impact any time soon? Big fan of Konley and think that he's a great heel for the X Division.

I didn't realize that ROH had the roster depth for this. I expect a few trios from CMLL to make appearances.

I'm going to say something a bit controversial -- I'm actually optimistic about TNA's future at the moment. Dixie Carter is gone. That woman did the best she could to choke the life out of TNA. The hiring of Kurt Angle coincided with the hiring of Vince Russo, which is a damn shame, because wrestling could be very different right now if Dixie wasn't naive enough to fall for that shit, and she trusted Dutch Mantel and Jim Cornette to run operations.

My opinion is still out on Corgan, but he could make some decent in-roads to rehiring someone who actually knows how to book and to at least give him ideas. Dutch is free. Please, please, PLEASE get him back. For those who don't know, Dutch was the guy behind the Women's Division in its early days with Kim and Kong and the guy behind Angle/Joe when it actually drew money.

There is a bevy of free agents that are dissatisfied with how the WWE treated them. They are hungry to prove themselves. Cody Rhodes is apparently working on a deal to go there, and he'll be taking Brandi. That's a great start. Alberto Del Rio, Paige, Ryback, Wade Barrett -- all of them have some measure of potential left. I'd sacrifice all of them, except maybe Paige, for Cesaro if he decides to leave WWE though.

Kurt Angle said he was taking a break, but he clearly was only taking a break from TNA. Bring him back, treat him like a god and build to a few matches a year for him. Try and court The Briscoes by allowing them to remain associated with ROH and New Japan. If you can get a Hardys vs. Briscoes match on PPV, you will draw money. If you have built up Bobby Lashley as a capable heel champion and crown Cesaro as a new babyface challenger with a win over Kurt Angle on this same PPV, you might be out of the gate a bit.

TNA has lost a lot of its bargaining power. Cody can basically pick his dates right now. But in a way this is good -- because TNA has always tried to run before it was walking properly. TNA is not WWE -- it doesn't need to own the brands of its wrestlers and it doesn't need to keep them locked in cellars when it isn't using them. TNA can be a promotion that works for the boys and girls that contribute to it, and it can lend its top talent to other promotions, build their prestige, bring them back fresh, and operate entirely different to the WWE. They can be babyfaces.

ROH reportedly added 4 months to Adam Coles contract that would have expired at the end of the year for being injured last year. Could be a sign he's not going to resign and coming to WWE.

It could also be that Adam Cole doesn't want to jump to the WWE until he knows he'll be in the clear for something resembling a push. Signing around the Rumble time might lead to him "blending in." But there's still a lot that Cole can get out of New Japan and ROH for the moment -- especially New Japan -- and that will ultimately make him more valuable to the WWE.

The 4 months added would put him at about April so it'd be after Mania before he could come to WWE which is probably better considering there will be a lot of NXT call ups around that time. Yeah still a lot he could do in ROH and NJPW and them teaming up to sign free agents helps their chance of keeping him a bit.

Yeah, I imagine that he'll reassess when he sees how badly NXT needs him after Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe and possibly a few others have made themselves comfortable on the main roster.

I think it was a good idea turning Drew heel. With Moose turning face and Rex coming in, they need more strong heels in the company (especially with Broken Matt becoming a face). I have a few mutual friends in TNA and they said Rex coming in was in part to Drew (him and Drew are really close friends)
With that said.... I'm not a fan of "emo Drew". Drew is a great heel in ICW. He's got a stable built around him, very similar to the "chosen one" gimmick in WWE. I'd rather see him as more of a cocky arrogant heel than what he's doing now...

How was Galloway doing as a babyface? I've always liked the guy. He's grown into those big paws he has in the ring and even earned himself some praise from Bret Hart while he was still in WWE. He'll return bigger and better one day.

He does seem more naturally suited to being a heel. My big problem with it is that he sort of turned babyface quite recently didn't he? Plus, he's turning to face a newcomer. I don't believe in too many fixed rules in pro-wrestling, but generally speaking, I think it's always good to give someone who turns a victory in their program, because otherwise why did they turn? You don't start a fire by pissing on the kindling, no matter how drunk you are.

How do you guys see Galloway vs. Rex going?

Nah, Drew has been a face since he arrived in TNA. Had The Rising stable with Eli Drake and Micah(Tanga Roa/Camacho). Eli turned on him and Micah left to team with his brother in NJPW. If Rex and Galloway both make it to the finals of the tournament as they should I hope the championship match has longer than 3 minute rounds. 5 minute rounds would work.

Come on. Stop with these dumbass dramatic analogies. "If you like WWE right now you like to eat shit." "If your don't give someone who just turned a win you might as well be trying to start a fire by drunk pissing on the kindling!"

Can't ya just be normal. The first part was fine. Then you have to add that stupid shit at the end that you know is just going to annoy people. It's obnoxious. Stop.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I thought he was part of a heel group at some point (probably that Rising one).

Really hard to make sense of what is going on in TNA a lot of the time. Bobby Lashley has turned like three times in the last two years. I think Matt Hardy was a heel for two months or so. For someone with a casual perspective, it is extremely easy to get lost.

That's why this is a weird idea. Galloway is a fresh character, Rex is a fresh character -- something's gotta give. But now I'm hearing that they're not even booked against each other yet? Maybe they will give them different opponents? Who else is in this tournament?

He does seem more naturally suited to being a heel. My big problem with it is that he sort of turned babyface quite recently didn't he? Plus, he's turning to face a newcomer. How do you guys see Galloway vs. Rex going?

Galloway was face since he debuted in the company in Jan 2015 so he was face for over a year and a half.

Matt was a heel from Jan this year up until about a month or so ago. He was one of the few times a heel character won over the crowd and became a face because a feud with another heel.

I appreciate the point, but you don't need to see the entirety of a movie to know it is going to be shit. I've been following TNA loosely for as long as it has been around, and it's honestly hard to keep up with who is a face and who is a heel.

I don't think you even need to be an avid consumer of a product to understand why it doesn't appeal to you. Not being able to easily decipher who is a face and who is a heel because there is a turn every few weeks is actually a problem. Matt being a heel for six months is not a long time. Granted, maybe he got "over" and started getting cheered, so kudos to TNA for rolling with the punches, but it's still inconsistent storytelling to switch someone every so many months.

Does anyone care to dispute the Bobby Lashley turns? Didn't Moose turn after being there for about a month? Come on, guys. You only need to be acquainted roughly with the conventions of storytelling to know this isn't effective.

I don't need to go back and watch RAW from this past week to tell you that Kevin Owens losing a match as the Universal Champion this early into his run, in a Steel Cage Match, so close to Hell in a Cell, isn't exactly wonderful booking. I don't need to watch TNA every week to say "Holy fucking shit is this shit fucking confusing." Because it is.

Simple Fan, how many times have you, in the Impact threads, had to explain the rules of a Grand Championship match to people? Don't you think this speaks volumes about what they are doing?

And I'm sorry, but unless Drew Galloway isn't a fresh heel, and unless Aron Rex isn't a fresh babyface, I don't see how the overall point about this being counter-productive isn't valid. Does anyone care to dispute that? It's like when the crowds were chanting "Fire Russo!" and Dixie Carter took to the internet to say "Well, actually, Russo didn't even book it, so there." That's kinda missing the point...

By the way, the irony in this is that people act as if the start of 2015 until now is a long time for someone to retain a disposition in professional wrestling. I suppose these days it is.

Every thing you said makes no sense because you simply haven't watched. Moose came in as Bennets heavy but you could always tell there was tention when Bennet would spout off about Moose doing what he wants. Moose eventuall had enough and attacked Bennet. Set up Moose vs Bennett at Bound for Glory. Lashley has been heel for a while as well. Matt turned face partly because people like the gimmick and they were feuding with Decay. To say that heel/Face turns are happening every other week just isn't true. As for the Grand Championship tournament its pretty simple and I'm not sure how people are confused about it. Regular match broken down into three rounds basically. Not a huge fan of it but they tried, I hope the nix it after the tournament.

Moose came in really recently didn't he? I don't get this "he's a bad guy, now he's a good guy" before you even really get the sense of who someone is. It's all very convoluted. It would suck in a movie too. It's just not good storytelling by any metric. Where's the suspense? Where's the built tension? It's like BOOM, SPLAT, POW! Slow down and tell a fucking story.

Lashley returned to TNA as a babyface on March 19, 2014. On May 15 he turned heel. There's one. On January 16, 2015, Lashley turns face when the BDC betrays him. That's two. On March 8, 2016, Lashley again turns heel when he keeps beating down Kurt Angle. That's three. He turned three times within a two year period. That may not be Bella fast, but it's Big Show fast. Where is the stability? Where is the development?

Feuding with The Decay is not a good enough reason to turn a "fresh" heel character face, I'm sorry. You should have babyface teams lined up to feed to them, or whatever. The fans turning him is fair enough, because sometimes you do have to listen to the fans, but a better idea would be not running the gimmick in the first place, because you're going to have the neckbeards eat it up and then you're left with your nuts in the breeze because you've got this character that alienates fans of actual wrestling.

You might get the Grand Championship rules, but you seem like a pretty avid consumer of whatever TNA throws out. Don't you think people being confused by it is evidence enough that it's confusing?

The whole "you don't watch every week, therefore you can't possibly know how bad it truly is," argument is a straw-man. I can tell you that I do read up on TNA, and I can absolutely tell you why it doesn't appeal to me. It's not my job to continuously give chances to a show that makes itself so...ugly. And I'm entirely an expert on what I like to see in pro-wrestling. It's TNA's job to be good if it wants me to watch it more often and not get confused by the confusing shit it does that breaks all the rules of logic that have worked in wrestling for years and years.

God, I wish TNA would just try professional wrestling again. I got excited when they put the X-Division Title on Eddie Edwards. I thought "Hey, they're going to go with a wrestler wrestling again." They then had Bobby Lashley throw down the belt and now it's held by a DJ. Fucking wonderful, TNA. And no, I'm not going to actually watch that, because it sounds fucking shit.

You can destruct screenplays of movie, you can dissect books, you can analyze still art work. Why can't you respond to the theory of the story of professional wrestling? You obviously don't believe you can, but I do, so we're always going to be at a stand-still with that. I'll grant you that some things work well in theory and then never work out well, and some things are awful on paper and then work really well. There are definitely intangibles. But let's be honest -- TNA is not lighting the world on fire. I'm sorry, but you're apologists for the product.

I'd like to know what these answers are. Please. Tell me why Lashley throwing the belt on the ground was a good thing. Tell me why these fragmented rounds are good. Tell me why Moose had to come in as a heel just to turn face within a two months, or whatever it was? Why couldn't he just feud with Mike Bennett? You can't. That's why you went blanket "if you don't watch you won't get it." Yeah, if you don't do meth you won't get what is appealing about the lifestyle either. Sell me on TNA by explaining what is actually good in it. I tried watching the "acclaimed" Hardy stuff, and it made me think I should have spent more time studying so I could be a doctor and help people in the third world. That's how much I disassociated.

And, for the record, I DON'T watch WWE every week. In fact, I don't think I watched last week either. Backlash might have been the last thing I watched. Given that I am addicted to professional wrestling, my own problem, I have to get my fix from somewhere. WWE gets far more viewing from me than it arguably should. There are talents in that company that I do have high hopes for. But if there was a WCW-level alternative around, I guarantee you that I'd either be watching that, or that WWE would stop fucking around and start putting on a compelling product that isn't sinking every week.

And, by the way, it's hard to watch Impact Wrestling in Australia since they lost their television deal because they're so fucking awful. So there's that too.

That horn is aimed at me, because I realize I am using logic in a discussion with TNA fans.

Im a wrestling fan but whatvever. Im not defending every aspect of TNA though. There are things in TNA that I dont like. The companty is run like shit. Not a big fan of the Grand Championship format but its not as complicated as people make it out to be. Its wrestling dude face/heel turns happen all the time, its not just a TNA thing. The Moose thing might have been predictable(alot these days is) but it set up Bennett vs Moose for Bound for Glory. I dont care if you dont like the product but when go comparing it to the promotion you dreamed about and shitting on it for things as simple as a turn you didn't see you sound silly. Like I said your one of my favorite poster because I can talk alit of wrestling with you but I honestly believe you are growing out of wrestling since nothing really suits you anymore.

See, the face/heel turns happening all the time thing is the conditioning to a modern product. They didn't used to happen all the time. Not everything was some big angle, because if every segment was an angle they would stop to matter. This a post-Russo hangover. Everyone has to be doing something, kinetic, hitting someone with something, or changing all the time. Wrestling can be patient, smart and emotionally effective. There is a spot in wrestling for short title reigns, sudden turns, quick turnarounds and changing direction; but there's also a spot for slow-builds, planning, tension, coherence, and sticking to something.

TNA has burnt a lot of bridges with many different fans and many different talents over the years. Its core "identity players" have all left (save for Abyss), and almost all of them have gone on to do bigger and better things. That jades people. And it's not the fault of the on-air talent there or even some of the people behind the scenes right now. It is very easy to see the bad in TNA and overlook the good it is trying to do -- I'll give you that. But it doesn't help itself with some of the shit it throws out there -- it really doesn't.

See, I can watch older things and I still love it. If I were truly outgrowing wrestling, wouldn't I be like "hmm, that was stupid." No, I love wrestling. I just don't like the current trend that everything needs to be bad to be good. Or that because it's fake it doesn't matter what story you tell. Or the excuse that everything is bad justifies things being bad.

I love your posting, man, and I love that you engage with so much, and I'm sorry to be such a downer -- well, I'll rephrase that -- I'm sorry if me being critical of things gets people down -- that's not my cause. But I don't feel much like censoring my opinion because it's easier to stick fingers in ears and go "la-la-la." Debate me, argue with me, prove me wrong -- that's all well and good -- but I'm not going to stop because I also love wrestling; I just hate the shape that it's in.
