2 Controversial Statements
Well, maybe or maybe not. But I will make these statements mainly to see what people think about them.
1. La Parka was the most charismatic of the Masked Luchadores: I feel like Bischoff could have gotten more bang for his cruiserweight buck if he just brought in Rey, Psychosis, Juvy, and La Parka. Leaving the rest behind. And of those four, La Parka was the most interesting. If he was able to speak english, he could have been bigger than Rey, draw wise. 2. Every modern American "Flippy McKickpad" today owes their career to Sean Waltman: Many people consider him the patron saint of "X-Pac Heat." Those who followed Global remember his time as the Lightning Kid. You want to talk about someone who came out 20 years too soon? That was Waltman. He more or less created the style used by every spot monkey today. Discuss, Ridicule, I don't care. = "KARA-TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!" Question Mark.

1. La Parka was awesome so I have to agree with the first part. Can't agree with the second part though. The matches would have gotten duller faster with only 24 possible single match scenarios. It even worked when he stole Kai En Tais gimmick of having a fake announcer do his promos. It was a different take on it because he was not in control and said things to get his ass kicked harder.
2. Him vs. Bret Hart was awesome. Him turning on Kane was probably the worst heel turn in WWE history or tied with Steve Austin at WM17. The Bronco Buster was stupid though. |

Didn't watch WCW at the time, but La Parka has always been beloved here. Good for him, and I think WCW could have made some money out of that.
I was thinking the other day (don't mean to hijack your thread or anything): Was Alex Wright ahead of his time? His whole gimmick feels like it should have taken place a little bit later on, and that it could have gotten over huge. |

The Chair-man was awesome, but don't think he would ever reach the same heights as Rey, he just didn't have the main event player feel.
X-Pac was one of my favourites during the Attitude era, he did a lot for the 'smaller guys' during that time. His European title fueds were some of my favourites. |

People give X-Pac way too much crap. He opened so many doors for smaller wrestlers.

La Parka was indeed highly charismatic. Unlike Sin Cara, his charisma was able to overcome him having a full face mask, and allow him to get "over" with the fans.
However, like Sin Cara, the full face mask would have limited just how over he could get. Certainly he could never be anything above an entertaining mid-card act. |

He was too good looking to be a beloved babyface, didn't speak English well enough to get over, and while very athletic with a good base of what to do in the ring, would be described as "a fair hand". And for what he did right, he did much more wrong. |

La Parka was great, though I wouldn't have pushed him as a Cruiserweight he was too big. I would have pushed him as a US Title/Television Title guy. Think of any top guy in those divisions in La Parka's WCW years, and find me a guy he wouldn't be entertaining with. His charisma in the ring is comparable to someone like Dusty Rhodes. I would have made an angle to make him very sympathetic and inspirational. For instance.... After getting a rollup victory over Raven in a "Raven's Rules" match, he is beaten down, nearly torn to shreds by the Flock. One of his eyes full exposed and cut over the eyebrow, but he refuses to go down the aisle in a stretcher instead fights off the medics and officials, grabs a chair and does his La Parka strut down the aisle then runs backstage.... Later in the night there is a tag match with Sick Boy and Saturn vs somebody, and before it gets heated, La Parka still ripped and bloody runs to the ring chair in hand ala WCW vs NWO Revenge, and starts taking out The Flock with sick chair shots and after they have all fallen and the chair is destroyed, Raven climbs over the guardrail and rolls into the ring. They face off. Raven is so cocky he just sits in the corner staring. La Parka begins to dance and then out of nowhere runs to Raven and delivers a sick chair assisted dropkick right to the dome. And then they feud for months, with La Parka bringing in some of the unused AAA stars that never quite scored in WCW. ................................................................................................... Sean Waltman is a huge inspiration to a lot of guys but you can't point him out as "THE GUY" when "THE GUY" who inspired all the fliers is Dynamite Kid. |

Agree on La Parka being great in WCW but think Rey would have still been more popular even if Parka spoke more English.
Not sure I'd consider 1-2-3 Kid as the main source of inspiration for small flippy guys considering WCW had better small guys in their counterweights. Could argue like with question #1 that Rey Mysterio would fit better instead as the inspirational king of the Flippys. |
