This is such a close call I'm afraid I can't vote for it doesn't help that their media origins are complete opposites and came out in very different stages of my life for that matter.

I was a bigger TMNT fan than Ghostbusters fan as a kid. Ghostbusters had the better films but I loved the TMNT cartoon, video games (NES and arcade), and toys.
I might of even had a TMNT lunchbox as a kid but at the same time I ended up having a bunch of cartoon/gaming related lunchboxes. |

I liked Ninja Turtles more than Ghostbusters, I do love the first Ghostbusters movie but including games/toys/old cartoon, Turtles wins out.

I am a huge Ghostbusters fan. Always have been, always will be. I did like the TMNT b/c my brother was a huge fan. I watched the first 2 turtles movies and played the games. I will take a proton pack and ghost trap over katanas and nunchucks anyday.

Movies: Ghostbusters
Original cartoon: Pretty sure Ghostbusters was a Saturday morning cartoon, while TMNT was a weekday afternoon show, so everything else being equal, Turtles gets the nod based on volume. New cartoon: No idea. Haven't seen either of them. Toys: Ghostbusters. Slime FTW. Video games: Turtles (although I haven't played the new GB game) Societal impact: Turtles |

Though I loved the turtles as a child, i got up early on Saturday mornings for The Real Ghostbusters... In my opinion, Ghostbusters had the tools and the talent....

I never got the attraction of slime. The only slime thing I had was some ninja turtles vehicle thing. I used the slime like... once and it got ruined and I was just "Great. What now?" even as a kid.

I always loved slime, but it definitely had a short lifespan. As soon as it touched the floor it was forever ruined
I was a big fan of Nickelodeon Gak and related products, as well as the Ghostbusters and Ninja Turtles tie ins. |

Original cartoon: Season 1 of GB was probably the best group of episodes between both shows, but then they changed Venkman to Dave Coulier and made Slimer the focus and the show took a rough hit. Consistency goes to Turtles, while peak goes to GB
New cartoon: they were both pretty bad Toys: Ghostbusters: Trap, Proton Pack, the ectos, the firehouse Video games: Tough call, though I really loved the new Ghosbusters game so ill give the nod to GB Societal impact: Ghostbusters for sure Movies: GB easy Sexy Halloween costumes: Id much rather see girls dressed as a sexy GB than a sexy turtle Vllians: Shredder/Krang/etc vs Gozer/Staypuft/random ghosts. Tough call on this one. Ill call it a draw Overall: GB |

wow, this is almost impossible. I don't even know how to vote. I love the movies of each, I love the cartoons of each, I had all the figures and accessories (Ghostbuster house, Turtle Sewer, Technodrome, Turtle Bus, Ecto 1) of each and I dressed up as both for Halloween.

Ninja Turles for me, but this business of Dave Coulier being in the Ghostbusters cartoon is kind of mind boggling.

Carlton was one of the voices on Extreme Ghostbusters too. The Banks family has a rich legacy of cartoon voiceovers

Ninja Turtles are from my hometown, by the way. Watch the news broadcast at the beginning of TMNT 2. April O'Neil says, "reporting live from Bayonne, New Jersey," which is the origin of the ooze.

First off, I went with TMNT, but only by the narrowest of margins. And I believe the whole '80s-mid '90s craze with sliming everything on TV being the 'in thing to do' may have very well had a lot to do with Ghostbusters and TMNT, I believe the TV series You Can't Do That on Television was the pioneer of the sliming antics, as the show itself dates back to '79, a year or so before they even hit Nickelodeon...and as I'm sure most of us know, the slime would be dumped on any poor, unfortunate soul stupid or forgetful enough to utter the words "I don't know". It's my belief that once Nick started making this show they were naturally aware of this and the gag the show also had of dumping water on anyone who said the word "water", and as such, decided sliming people was so popular with the show's young audience that they decided to make it a staple of their most famous kids shows.

The Films
Both films had incredible movies to be honest. Whilst today I think the Ghostbusters ones hold up better, the TMNT ones are a HUGE part of my childhood, and the nostalgia still makes them awesome films, including the third one. Haven't seen all of the CGI one, but it seemed alright what I saw of it. The Original Cartoons Turtles win this one no doubt. Easily one of the greatest cartoon series of all time, and pretty much my obsession for the first few years of my life. The GB cartoon was also cool, but I seem to remember there being a billion more Turtles cartoons, and the GB's just couldn't touch that. Plus the Turtles had a much bigger cast of characters/allies/enemies etc, which made for more varied episodes. The Reboot Cartoons Haven't seen too much of either to be honest. Didn't really like Extreme Ghostbusters (that's the GB reboot in question right?), and I didn't get to see many episodes of TMNT, however, the episodes I did see were pretty good, and pretty loyal to the more ninja-esque aspects of the Turtles. The Turtles Forever animated movie was incredible though, whilst the Extreme meet the Real Ghostbusters was kinda crap. The Toys I'd have to go with Turtles again. Whilst GB toys were cool, there wasn't really much to go for compared to Turtles. Turtles had EVERYTHING! No doubt the GB house was an awesome playset (ditto the slime complaints) and the photon pack/ghost trap were good fun back in the day. The Turtles though... wow... the sewer lair, the blimp, the Technodrome, the fugures and a billion different versions, such as movie stars, horror stars, space, surf, ninjas, movies... holy shit. The videogames Can't really comment here. Only game I've played was this one: The children I'd imagine the Ghostbusters children would be better looking, and how would the Turles ever have kids anyway? I doubt April O'Neil would put up for them. However, if the Turtles could have children, they'd end up looking like Franklin, so the Turtles get this one. In conclusion, the Turtles get my vote. The Ghostbusters were awesome back in the day, but the TMNT pretty much WAS my life throughout my childhood. I miss such innocent times... |
