Your favourite match finishes ?
With all this talk about Lesnar / Orton's finish I thought it would be a good idea to chat about our favourite finishes.
Nothing puts the bow on the top of a great match like a finish that becomes legend. An obvious one was Austin passing out at WM13. My personal favorite has to be Undertaker / Bret at Summerslam 97. For your viewing pleasure : Jump to 43:50min to see the setup and execution of the finish. So now that I've shown you mine, lets see yours... shoot interviews for free : http://forums.projectcovo.com/showthread.php?t=1562931 Another quality shitty thread by The MAC |

Perfect/Bret Summerslam 91.
Catching his leg on the drop into the Sharpshooter blew my mind as a kid. Tried to replicate it so many times. |

Mania 13 with Austin and Bret is obvious, but its true. Its one of the most enduring visuals I've ever seen.
In terms of drama, I loved the finish to Angle/Shawn at Mania 21. Shawn is lying on the floor just selling, and the entire building is pissing themselves with anticipation to see if he'll tap or hold on, before he finally does. Beautiful stuff. |

As for an original answer, never seen it mentioned, but thought Undertaker/Batista at Elimination Chamber, the momentum carrying them both over the rope, into the ring and into a tombstone, was really cool and brilliantly timed. Plus in response to Gertner...interesting to see that half the replies in this thread are for his matches. He was amazing at what he did and I am sorry he didn't stick around and finish his career there. The ultimate storyteller imo. |

Gonna channel my inner innovator with a japanese match as my pick.
Chigusa vs Devil Masami 8/22/85 Probably in my top 5 matches. The women in AJW in the 80's were over a decade ahead of their time. The match told a great story, and went for around 30 minutes. At the very end they had kicked out of each other's finishers and had almost nothing left in the tank. So they just started trading bombs. I'm talking beyond japanese stiff. They kept going back in forth til neither one could stand and the ref had to call the match. Normally no contests feel like a bit of a jip, but they built to it so well and connected with the audience in such a way that it just fit perfectly. |

Another bret one : bret vs diesel at survivor series 1995. Bret goes through a table(the first time the announce table was ever used like this in the wwf). Diesel has a moment of sympathy for a nearly unconcious Bret Hart. Out of nowhere Bret small packages him for the 3 count.
Diesel flips out mouthing "son of a bitch, motherfucker" and delivers 2 stiff jacknifes to Bret, who is now the champion |

This may seem like an odd choice, but:
Hell in a Cell 2012: Sheamus vs. Big Show The feud here was about whose finisher was stronger - specifically, which hit the hardest. During the match, after both guys kicked out of each others' finishers, Sheamus went for a second Brogue Kick. Big Show sidesteps and WMDs Sheamus out of the air mid-Brogue Kick for the win. The transition was just so perfectly smooth, and it was a great capstone to the central point of the feud. |

Another Bret one: Summerslam '91 vs the Bulldog. The story itself was incredible: Davey Boy taking on his brother-in-law in his backyard (essentially) for the IC title. The match was talked up as "tearing the family apart" and Bret even played heel for a bit in the match.
After pulling out all the stops, it culminated into what seem a like your basic sunset flip from the apron finish. The Bulldog had one more trick up his sleeve: he caught the legs and leaned forward, leading to the pin, and for once actually out-wrestling the Excellence of Execution. |

Love all the Bret and Shawn mentions in this thread, that is very telling about those two.
I'm gonna say Bret and Shawn Iron Man. What a fucking bummer when it goes to draw, Monsoon comes out restarts, and HBK hit's the superkick of his life and pins Bret with more intensity than anyone ever has. Most inspirational moment in wrestling history for me, Vince on commentary "THE BOYHOOD DREAM...." Shawn looked like his life goal was complete, so fucking real. |

Austin/Brett Wrestlemania 13 by far.
HBK/Flair is up there for me as well. Aside from those two however, there is one match from the late 90's that I vaguely remember, but was quite impressed by. It was Mankind vs. Ken Shamrock in 1998 I believe (like Fall 1998). Shamrock had just gone over Owen Hart at Summerslam, and was involved in a triple threat feud with Mankind and The Rock. Shamrock fought Mankind, and put him in the ankle lock. As to avoid the pain of the ankle lock, Mankind gave himself the Mandible Claw and passed out.....giving Shamrock the win. I thought that was a great way of Foley putting over an up-and-comer like Shamrock. |

Going off the beaten path here:
-Invasion Attack 2015 - AJ Styles catching Ibushi mid-Pheonix Splash for the Styles Clash. -WK 10 - Okada refusing the let go of Tanahashi's wrist, finally putting him down with the Rainmaker. |

Shelton Benjamin springboards into Sweet Chin Music. Good match even better finish. Honorable mention HHH/Shelton Benjamin on Raw... Good match with Shelton going over, but I forget the pinning sequence. |

Michaels vs Bulldog, IC title on SNME. Bulldog goes to hit a suoerplex, but his back gives out due to taking too much damage and Michaels kind of waterfalls onto him for a pin. Very creative, makes Shawn look like an undeserving heel champ without looking weak. Heenan sold it amazingly.

Which reminds me - agonizing as it was, the finish of Okada Vs. Nakamura at the G1 final at the Seibu Dome, with the multiple rainmakers and Nakamura getting annihilated on the final one was fucking superb, even if I was pissed at the actual outcome.

-Bret/Austin just because of how iconic it is.
-Shawn Michaels catching Shelton Benjamin off the springboard with Sweet Chin Music. It's a shame we never got HBK vs. Shelton at a WrestleMania. -Chris Benoit winning the 2004 Royal Rumble by muscling over Big Show stands out in my mind, as does him making Triple H tap-out at WrestleMania XX. -Stone Cold Steve Austin using the steel chair to knock Kane onto the ropes before clotheslining him out of the 2001 Royal Rumble. -The Undertaker catching Shawn Michaels' moonsault and hitting a Tombstone. -Matt Hardy hitting Triple H in the back with a steel chair allowing Jeff Hardy to hit the Swanton Bomb to become the new Intercontinental Champion. -Jeff Hardy's Whisper in the Wind off a steel cage onto Umaga. -Cesaro stomping on William Regal's head, almost putting the old dog down before hitting his Neutralizer for the last match of Regal's career. -Cesaro catching Sami Zayn, carrying him around the ring, pressing him up into an uppercut and hitting the Neutralizer for the pin. |

What made this one so amazing was the carrying around the ring wasn't planned. Zayn lost his balance, but Cesaro stayed with it. And with no posting, just made the finish happen.

His back was weak because Shawn had spent most of the match untying the top turnbuckle pad in one corner to expose the steel connector. I think Bulldog was Irish whipped into it at some point and kinda slow sold how injured his back really was all the way to the finish. The attempted superplex was the Bulldog trying to be a hero, but he didn't have the strength left for it. Literally pride before a fall. One fall to a finish, as it were.

I really liked how the psychology worked during the match played into the finish of Sasha/Becky and Sasha/Bayley last year. Not so much at the actual finish themselves, but how they came about made perfect sense.
