Better Movie #23
Like so many before it, Star Wars could not survive the ultimate test and floundered in the 5th round. Still though, nothing to hang its head about as Episode V provided arguable the most entertaining journey to date. But now it's time for the mobsters to take their place. Goodfellas is up to see if it has what it takes.
First, they'll have to defeat Shelley Duvall's horrifying mug. Better Movie #23 Goodfellas vs. The Shining Polls are open for three days. Happy voting. |

And as always, tell us why you voted the way you did. Don't make me break down your door.

Goodfellas. I've never been a fan of The Shining at all. I thought it was extremely overrated.

Goodfellas, because Stephen King sucks.

I'm hesitant to agree with St. Jimmy cause he's fat and ugly, but yeah I don't really like Stephen King. I know the book and movie are drastically different and I believe that the book deals more with Jack's alcoholism... which is kinda lame because alcoholism is boring, so Kubrick removed that element but didn't really add anything substantial to the story. Plus, the only thing lamer than alcoholism is Indian burial grounds. Fortunately, Kubrick is fantastic and the movie is great merely for it's atmosphere, visuals and soundtrack. HOWEVA, Goodfellas is perfect so that was my choice.

GF all the way on this one.
Like Clockwork, I respect TS's qualities and what it represents but it simply doesn't match up. |

I had this match in my flickchart and I picked the Shining. Don't really remember why, as I love both of these movies, but I'll keep it consistent.

Really hard choice for me. Going with the Shining, as it's easily King's best book adaptation, and it's Kubrick. One of the few really fucking creepy horror movies.

This ways a coin flip for me, so Goodfellas wins by way of heads.

The Shining shines and has no peer within it's genre. Goodfellas is a classic, but I can think of other movies that approach it in its genre.

Can't vote against Goodfellas. I can watch it over and over and never get sick of it.

Haven't seen Goodfellas.
The Shining was great in it's own way. Jack coming through the door with an axe would have to be one of the greatest things ever. How many times has it been shown or copied? |

I loved The Shining I thought it was great. But I don't know, Goodfellas has been one of my favorite movies since I was like 13. Not sure I could ever get sick of it. No disrespect to The Shining, it is just going to take something special for me to put ahead of Goodfellas.
