Just going to assume everyone was too busy trying to fight off Cyborg-Doakes in a bonus scene that will be on the DVD releases.

I am not a fan of the final episode. The serie should have ended a long time ago. Also, why Hannah would not even try to change her appearance?

Yeah, kept saying "Why the fuck didn't you cut and dye your hair AS SOON AS YOU WERE IN MIAMI?"
I kinda 'get' the ending. Him dumping Deb's body, wrapped in all white. It was the total opposite of getting rid of his dark passenger. He got rid of the only real light in his life. The only thing trying to keep him on the right path. But overall, I was disappointed. The whole season's story was disappointing, but since they went with it, they built me up to have this expectation of what was coming, and I was ok with it. I wouldn't have minded if Dexter had gotten away, and Deb went on with her life with Quinn and things just trickled away. They built up the whole show as Dexter going through all these changes, showing that he wasn't a normal psychopath. He was different. Then they just let it all fall apart at the drop of a hat, and it ends with him giving up and realizing he'll never change. Ugh. |

I even thought they were going to let him get away with Hannah when I thought more about him 'killing' Deb.
His last kill was one of compassion instead of need. I almost teared up thinking about it as it was happening. Why couldn't they have just left that beautiful allegory alone? Have a weight lifted off his shoulders as he dumps her into the ocean. Then, he moves on with life, with Hannah and Harrison. |

The series lost its luster after Clyde Phillips left the show, but it continued to have its moments. The last episode felt cliche-ridden, but a lot of it did make sense and it did lend closure to the character. I like the implication that Dexter will forever be a monster, but did feel that it changed the tone they were going for (back to the one they should have stuck with in the first place) -- Dexter just ditching Harrison with a one-time kill prospect seemed weird and out of character.
I think that the ending should have featured some guy getting back into his room and getting jabbed in the neck by Dexter, instead of him just looking morose in his quarters, but whatever. I'm just happy they didn't all go and live happily in Argentina. |

There were a ton of story elements introduced this story that could have led to a fantastic ending, but they left most of them dangling or with unsatisfactory results.
There were elements I liked, though. I liked his last conversation with Harrison. I thought that was a good way to tie off that part of the story: him letting go of the one good thing he ever made and letting his son live his life out of the shadow of the Dark Passenger. I loved Deb telling Quinn that she loved him and him not hearing her. The last season (and the finale in particular) was an overall disappointment, but looking back over eight years, it's been a hell of a ride and I am sad to see it go. |

I like all of your bullet points. I just really wish they fleshed out a lot more elements of the show. I think by this point though they were probably just happy it was over. /shrug
Definitely a series I will enjoy re-watching though, no matter how many lemmings spout off how terrible the ending has been. |

Dexter is all-time my favorite show, but this season was absolute trash.

now that i've had to sit on it, i don't hate it. but i am really disappointed in that final season overall. it was just far too careless. it was fun too watch, but ultimately did nothing for me. the ending was ok i guess.

I think a fitting end to Dexter would have been Dexter gets arrested for "killing" his sister and is sent to prison, he feels melancholy about it until he sees a prisoner being shanked. and everyone acting like they "didn't notice" (not snitching).
He deems him being sent to prison wasn't a bad thing at all and it is more like a buffet for his "dark passenger". Good? Bad? |
