I knew it would come off like this. Ryder was getting over on his own, off the company's time. The company wasn't controlling him. He WAS constantly making inside remarks, including in his videos. WWE wants power. The people who don't rock the boat have a better chance at getting a push than someone like Ryder. Ryder needs to tone it down if he wants to keep his job.
Do I think it's right that he's THIS over, 99% because of the internet, that he gets the shaft? Of course not. It's asinine and they're missing the boat with him. But if you're in WWE, you don't do stupid shit. And from a company perspective, with the way they run it, he was doing something stupid. |

I think if he had done all of his videos exactly the same with the exception of leaving out the "Dropping the ball","missing the boat" type stuff out he'd have a lot more cred with the top brass.

No doubt the guy has done great for himself when he hasn't had anything in the way of TV time. If you can get a following like Ryder has by doing your own internet shows that's pretty impressive. Would it translate into sustained success if he eventually got on TV? I don't know. I sure hope so. At the worst, they push him and it doesn't work. It's not like they're risking much. If they turn him face they could use him on RAW for sure. |

I thought the "bitching" was pretty tongue-in-cheek and wouldn't have ruffled any feathers. He's hardly a Matt Hardy or even a Carlito. He still gives his all whenever he is featured and comes across as a guy that, whilst I'm sure he's annoyed by his constant lack of use, takes it on the chin.
Hopefully this "rib" could ultimately be the making of him. If he stays quiet and just takes it. Either way, I don't see why Vince is so butt-hurt about a guy that goes out and creates his own following. Kinda similar situation with the "Vince hates Christian"thing, if you have a guy that its over inspite of the booking (or lack there of) just go with it and see where it goes. I mean, they didn't PLAN on Austin being the success he was, it just happened and they capitalised on it. Last edited by XL; 06-15-2011 at 12:00 AM. |

But that was when they needed to win/innovate/get ahead of the competition.
Nowadays they can do whatever the hell they want. |

I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that he got over on his own. As much as I love the show if he wasn't working for the WWE nobody would really give a shit about his internet show.
It's a popular show because it's funny and because it features a WWE superstar (despite one not on tv that much.) |

If the WWE were upset at him taking digs or making jokes about the company then it would have made more sense for them to have a talk with Ryder to tone down his show but they did nothing even after helping him out with the show.
Vince basically wanted to embarrass Ryder for no actual reason in front of his hometown while Ryder had been happy at getting the moment he planned for a while. Ryder is doing a lot of the things WWE wants its wrestlers to do such as selling merchandise and getting the WWE Universe involved either at shows or online. |

"Well duh".
Of people wouldn't watch it if he wasn't a WWE star. To clarify, he has got himself over without the backing of the WWE machine. The opposite of a John Cena or Sin Cara. |

But he's also not a self made man like Bryan Danielson. So he's kinda stuck in limbo.

Danielson: took what he does best (in-ring work) and with a lack of TV exposure he travelled the world and made a name for himself, largely on the internet. This then bagged him a role in the "Big League". Ryder: took what he does best (charisma) and with a lack of TV exposure (he's featured on a show that isn't even on TV in the US) and made a name for himself on the internet. I'd get the issue if the hype was all internet based but it's not, it's in the arenas every week. Plain as day for the execs to see. In fact, moreso that DB who is getting a push of sorts. I don't get the logic from a business standpoint. In a company where people are regularly "let go" because "creative having nothing for them" (which may just be an excuse) here we have a guy that has gone out and created his own fan base. In a company where I pay people to come up with storylines to get guys over, where I feel compelled to give them winning streaks or book them favourably to do so (see Cara, Cena) here I have a guy who for the most part has done the job himself, inspite of the booking. I am an Assistant Night Manager in a supermarket (glamourous I know) and if my staff had as much "get up and go" or showed the initiative that a guy like Ryder has I would be laughing. Instead I have to treat half the staff like children and explain to them in great detail what I need them to do (and most of the time they still don't get the required level work completed). It just seems that Vince has some really retarded logic. Spend time building a guy up on TV in the hope that he gets over with the crowd versus pushing a guy that is already popular from his own doing. I know what I would choose and it'd be the guy that makes my job easier. |

Yeah, the people I'm talking about aren't kids. They're mostly 20 years my senior. In fact, the youngest guy is 19 and he's one of the best workers.

That's exactly how it was when I was working nights XL. I was always one of the younger people there, and was 'the best' (of course, all the lazy, older fuckers would never admit it).
However, I feel justified that I worked harder than others and still got paid the same, because I use to steal shit ALL THE TIME! |

Seriously, if they did that I have no doubt he'd get voted in for something. If they didn't rig the votes that is. Which they do. So I have no doubt we won't see him.

Which again is a process than confuses me.
The Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday/Viewer's Choice concept is a great way for WWE to see which guys their audience actually want to see (aside from crowd reactions obviously). It's like if I had a shop and a fair amount of customers repeatedly asked for Coca Cola and I only sell lemonade, I reckon I'd consider ordering some Cola cos I know it's gonna sell. They can pass it off as these polls being influenced by us net fans but surely that's bull. The kids of the WWE Universe probably spend more time on wwe.com than any of us spend here. |

If that Rib story is real, the best thing for Ryder to do is take it on the chin and keep doing what he does. Vince will eventually respect a guy who takes his whippings. That being said, that's a cruel joke. Like telling a five year old you got them a puppy, then handing them a bag with a dead puppy in it.

Vince is a weird son of a bitch, so I dunno if "taking it on the chin" will help or whether he'd be more impressed if Ryder was to call him on the stunt. Pretty sure Jericho said in his book that Vince liked it when he [Jericho] stood up to him.
Guess it depends on the day. |

Typing this up from Issue 202 of Power Slam magazine, from an interview with former WWE Writer (and current - or maybe now former - producer for ROH's HDNet show) David Lagana.

So,
Vince hate the net? Ryder needs to turn on the net to get over, he needs to start handing out leaflets instead. He needs to sacrifice what we love about him to get what we want for him. He's basically Jesus |

I'm hoping for a skit where Zack is eating ribs so he can proclaim that he "loves ribs" or Big O/Stanford are eating ribs and offer Zack some only for him to say "no, I hate ribs/have had enough ribs this week".

stolen from John Canton's facebook post:
"The fact that Zack Ryder would have some vocal fans at Monday's RAW in Long Island, New York was no secret going into Raw. People within WWE were upset that Ryder wasn't used with the feeling that he's got himself over with fans using social media and without a normal WWE push, and he wasn't even put on RAW because the company knew he would get a bigger reaction than some of the stars they push on TV." (Observer) Somewhat understandable. To the general audience who do not follow the WWE superstars on the net would be slightly confused why this "nobody" was out popping established guys. Still sucky logic. |
