When you hear on Legends of Wrestling Jim Ross and the like discuss what made a character successful, it's the combination of one's real personality and the freedom it takes to let that explode into a lively character, somebody should take notice of Ryder.

He is easily my favorite underdog in wrestling today. I want big things for this man.

Only towards the end of his run, Matt was making videos/interacting with his fans/being a world class self promoter etc for a long time before he started his Mental Matt schtick. And WWE did nothing with it. Like I said, I hope they do something with him but I'm not holding my breath. There's a lot of difference between making an entertaining Youtube video that you have 1000% control over and connecting with a live audience/getting over on a Vince McMahon TV show.

Of course bro. Zack Ryder had 10000 of people wanting his autograph and he had them all wait so he could snap this photo to make fun of Wrestling Superstar Virgil.
This type of media blitz has worked in the past. Where would The Miz be right now if the Dirt Sheet wasn't so popular on WWE.com? He certainly wouldn't be the WWE Champion right now and might not even be in the company. I hope this leads to something. He's got too much potiental and such a great theme song for it all to be wasted. Take care...spike you're hair! Woo woo woo you know it bro! |

I like Zack Ryder. I care about him more when he's actually doing stuff. If he gets on a roll I would be more behind him. I remember being absolutely high on him after he wrestled Christian on ECW once or twice.
It sounds like John Cena and The Miz are fans of the guy, which bodes well for him. I think he could use a move to SmackDown!, to show his stuff off a bit more, and then he can move back to RAW and be a big star. |

I don't think he'll get shit-canned. He's still so young, so good and really seems like he enjoys being on the road even though he's essentially an enhancement guy. They also gave him a little (he was in the main event of WrestleMania XXIV after all), took it away, and he hasn't bitched or moaned about it. He's actually worked harder at getting himself over. He seems like he can play ball, but will essentially go into business for himself, and won't just sit around waiting to be used. I'm sure there are a lot of guys who feel that he's too goofy, not big enough, and to be honest -- there's something off about his mic skills (he's funny, and he's confident, but there's just something weird about the way he talks) -- but in time, his work ethic will win him over the big supporters. And it sounds like he already has many.
It's just timing with Ryder, really. Like, no one expected him to win the Royal Rumble and main event WrestleMania. It's getting to the stage where almost every match at Mania involves former World Champions or main eventers. In fact, I do believe every match at WrestleMania this year involved a former World Champ. The only exception would be Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler if you didn't include Stone Cold Steve Austin and Jack Swagger's involvement or King's title reigns in other companies. But they still gave Ryder a WrestleMania moment. With WrestleMania come and gone, Ryder being drafted to SmackDown!, getting involved (on television if not directly on PPV) with Edge & Christian in a "Remember me!" sort of role, playing the upper-card featured talent that doesn't really achieve anything on their own that Michael Hayes seems to love (La Familia, King Booker's Knights, etc.) is not out of the question. Fuck that was a fucked up sentence. I see Ryder really re-inventing himself in the coming year. A goof outside the ring that gets it done inside it. Also, despite his current character obviously being a heel, a forthcoming face turn is not out of the question. |

Looks like Curt Hawkins is getting in on the act:
Seems to be going more towards the Matt Hardy route. Probably not a good sign. |

I love Curt Hawkins as a talent, I really do. The guy is really quite innovative in the ring, and only has years to get better. But his video is just too smarky. From it's name to him dissing The Great Khali, to bitching about not being on the European tour -- to the general structure and quality.
Please, Hawk, with releases coming up and you not being on the European tour, you can't afford to fuck up like this. |

I own the same Terry Funk shirt. Was like £3 on EuroShop. Although mine probably smells pretty bad, been 'chilling' in my gym bag for some time now. Giant contribution to this thread right here.

This week's Broski of the Week sat 4 rows in front of me. Pretty glad I didn't think to make a similar sign as Ryder wouldn't have noticed it.

I love the "No one pushes me", WWE Dropping The Ball/Missing The Boat and "Trying to get over" bits but are they gonna be detrimental to him getting a push?

Love the stuff but I don't think they are going to get him as over as some think. His youtube vids have about 50,000 views a piece, and seeing as though about 4.5 million people watch RAW I don't know if this will lead to a push.
Love the guy. He is certainly getting over with the IWC, but so what? I feel bad for him, cause he is funny, but listen to HHH's wrestlemaina interview about him. |

Maybe you're right he wasn't the one that jobbed to Sin Cara this week so maybe that's a good sign.

Zack Ryder should get a match with Sin Cara, he's small, fast, flier, it would work well. Especially if they could work some comedy bits, it could be gold.

We may see a turn around for him yet I saw his match on Superstars and he actually cut a promo and they let him plug his show on air not only that but Ryder had more positive and negative chants from the crowd than his opponent.
