Well, a lariat is like a necklace and a clothesline does just what it sounds like, holds clothes up.

Seriously, they're the same thing.

They are pretty much the same thing, although they're usually called different depending on the follow-through. For example, the Clothesline From Hell and Steinerlines are usually called "lariats," because the guy doesn't just hold his arm out, he swings the arm across the face/neck/chest of the guy he's hitting. Most everybody throws regular clotheslines, though, where you just stick your arm out and the guy runs into it.

Also, with a lariat the person doing it has their arm bent at the elbow where the forearm is almost vertical. Whereas with a clothesline, the arm is straight out and is only slighty bent.

I was actually talking to a kid who's being trained to be a wrestler by Monty Brown a couple of weeks ago. He told me The Pounce hurts like hell.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that it may hurt, but it looks like shit.

I dunno. Kobashi's is considered a lariet, and he keeps his arm straight. Also, Stan Hansen doesn't really bend his arm, but he swings it straight.

The only really arm benders I think are Hogan (who used it in japan.) and the fucker who's name slips my mind who does the Axe Hammer (who also does the axe guillotine driver, which is fucking slick.()

According to my trainers the arm bend is the lariat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profess...attacks#Lariat

According to this below, a Lariat is where the attacker strikes/swings with the arm, as opposed to a clothesline, where the arm is kept straight ( IE, doesn't bend over give on impact, and isn't thrown before, as opposed to a lariat, which is swung.)

Lariat

Lariat is another name for a lasso and is referred to in wrestling when an attacking wrestler runs towards an opponent, wraps his arm around their upper chest and neck, and then forces them to the ground, very similarly to a clothesline, the difference being that in a clothesline the wrestler's arm is kept straight to the side of the wrestler during the move, while in the lariat the wrestler strikes their opponent with his arm. Notable wrestlers who have used or use this move as their finisher include Stan Hansen, Kenta Kobashi, Satoshi Kojima, Steve Corino, Colt Cabana, and Homicide.
A lariat to the back of the opponent's neck and shoulders is sometimes referred to as a northern lariat or enzui lariat. Bobby Roode uses this as his finisher.
A lariat where the wrestler doesn't run but simply strikes the opponent while standing next to him is sometimes referred to as a short range lariat. The wrestler can also hold the opponent's head up before performing the lariat with his other arm.
A short-arm lariat is variation where the wrestler grabs one of the opponent's wrists with his hand and pulls the opponent closer, striking him with the lariat with his other arm.
[edit]

Crooked arm lariat

The Crooked Arm Lariat is performed when an attacking wrestler runs towards an opponent with the his arm bent upward at the elbow 60-90 degrees and wraps his arm around their head forcing them to the ground.
Hulk Hogan uses this maneuver as a finisher while wrestling in Japan, and calls it the Ax Bomber. This move is famous in Japan because Hogan accidentally knocked out Antonio Inoki with it. Takao Omori uses it as one of his finishers.

I Always thought that the Lariet was basically a clothsline from behind. I think A1 or Bobby Roode use it as a finisher in TNA and does it from behind his opponent.

The difference between a lariat and a clothesline is as follows:

If you hit a lariat on Jim Ross, Jim Ross will suck your dick.

If you hit a clothesline on Jim Ross, Jim Ross will lick the area where your left groin and pubic bone connect.

Any Questions?

Lariats are done by larger, fatter rasslers. Clotheslines are what the smaller dudes do.
