Broxton is going to look great in the AL East when he is traded at the deadline this year.

Jorge asked the Mets if they wanted him, Mets said "nah we're good."

lol Jorge on the Mets would have made less than zero sense. They need a backup catcher who is competent against lefties and in that respect Jorge had 6 more hits than I did last season.
They've shown interest in Varitek, who I don't see as a fit. Not even sure if he'd hold up for the 60 or so games they'd want him to catch as a backup. Personally I'd like to bring back Ramon Castro. |

Varitek would be a good move if the Mets intend to use him to help develop their younger pitchers but even then he'd only be really useable for just a single pitcher or two as a max.
He helped a lot in making Lester and Buchholz good as pitchers for the Red Sox. |

That's more than I'd be willing to pay Heath Bell. I could see that turning into a bad contract for the Marlins, but I've seen worse.

Didn't realize Heath Bell is already 34. I remember him being a generic player in the Mets minor league team in MVP 2005.

Would anyone be surprised if the Marlins somehow won the title again and then just had another huge fire sale of the team?
I understand the terms of the new stadium means the owner can't be a cheap-ass for the next year or two but at the same time I don't think it has any terms of him dropping salary once he wins or spends enough to get people to stop calling him a cheap-ass owner. |

Apparently, a group headed by Magic Johnson and Stan Kasten are now trying to buy the Dodgers.

Jays deal piece of shit Brad Mills to the Angels for catcher Jeff Mathis. Gotta replace the prowess of Jose Molina somehow.

Manny Ramirez is going to file for reinstatement this week. Sounds like if he gets it, his 100 game suspension could be reduced because he missed way more than 100 by retiring last year. 50 games sounds probable.
I do wonder if anybody will sign him...or if he'll be blackballed ala Bonds. |

Evening round-up:
Teams who want nothing to do with Manny Ramirez if he returns are as follows: Red Sox, Yankees, Royals, Tigers, White Sox, Indians, Twins, Rangers, Angels, A's, and Mariners. So that's about half of the AL right there. Good luck getting a gig, ManRam. Marlins have offered Jose Reyes a 6-year, $111 mil. deal with a $22 mil. 7th year option. 3 teams have offered Mark Buehrle the years and money he wants. But none have included the no-trade clause he's asking for. The Rangers, Nats, and Marlins are the frontrunners for his services. The Phillies sign Laynce Nix to a 2-year deal pending a physical. And finally, a special news bulletin for Big Vito. The Mets have contaced Francisco Rodriguez about a reunion in New York. |

No way do they actually bring back K-Rod. Makes no real sense. I expect them to end up with somebody in the Cordero/Francisco/Rauch group, maybe even 2 of 3.
But yeah, Reyes is a goner. Doesn't sound like the Mets are even going to make an offer now. So depressed. |

Sucks for the Mets. They only get a third round pick and sandwich pick since the Marlins signed Bell.
Gonna drop another round if the Marlins get any more big guys. |

The more I listen to Alderson, the more I think he's just a Wilpon yes-man who is only in his current job because Selig pretty much told him to. Just watching his explanation it became abundantly clear that the Mets never truly intended on bringing back Reyes. What a colossal fuckup to not trade him in June/July.
I feel sick to my stomach hearing Alderson say over and over again that the Madoff situation would have no impact on his ability to run the team. Its already been disproven. If they thought losing $70 million this year was bad, wait til next year when the stands are empty. |

Not that I wanted the Mets to give Reyes 6 years, mind you.....but the fact that they never even put an offer in disgusts me. Apparently Reyes' camp never came to the Mets with the offer either despite saying they would.
Sigh. |

And now the writers are all saying that the Marlins are going to be making an aggressive push to land Pujols during the Meetings.

If the Marlins get Pujols they are most likely going to be the team that's most likely going to the WS. But, I do think maybe the Marlins need to work on starters. And bringing Pujols , Reyes, and a big starter may be too hard to do.
